  1. Thank you for letting me know. I am still looking for another group if anyone else is also looking for a group. Janet
  2. Did you find another group buy? I might be interested in a few as well.
  3. I would be interested in looking at your plans. My daughter is taking a class at a co-op that is using SL 100 as a base. I would love to add a few additional books as well as some documentaries for us to watch on the weekends.
  4. I am not sure exactly how I am going to combine them yet. Based on the samples my plan is to start the year with Treasured Conversations and complete the first section. Then I will try to add in Fable, but taking both programs very slow. My son very well might not handle working on both programs at the same time. If it becomes clear that I need to work on one at a time then my plan is to go in this order - section 1 of TC, Fable, section 2 of TC, Narrative 1, section 3 of TC, Narrative 2. It would likely take us 1.5- 2 years to complete this sequence, but given how much he struggles with language arts I am okay with that as long as he is making steady progress. I may change the sequence once I get to see the full books. :001_smile:
  5. I think I am going to go with Treasured Conversations and CAP W&R, but I have looked at ELTL. I wish I could somehow combine all 3 of them, but I know I would have a major revolt from my son.
  6. If you hadn't started CAP's writing program and wanted to use both what order would you suggest. I was all set to start Fable next year with my son. He will be in 6th grade, but is dyslexic and just now starting to take off with reading. Fable seemed like a great place, but I really like the looks of the first section of this program so now I am wondering if I should do the first section of this program before Fable.
  7. I am so glad that you posted what you decided to use. I am thinking about using Visual Latin with my daughter next year.
  8. I have an almost 14 year old ballet dancer as well. I would be interested in any of your recommendations as well. We have both Netflix streaming as well as DVDs. Janet
  9. :grouphug: :grouphug: I don't want to derail the original thread, but I am curious about this. What would be the likely treatment if the person has extreme chronic stress? Would it be the same as treating depression? You can PM me if you want so we don't take up too much on this thread.
  10. I just wanted to say that I read Pages of History 1 and 2 to my kids (11 and 13) this year. Everyone loved it. It is a little basic, but I feel like both of my kids retained a lot of information from what we read. My kids begged me to read the book every day. I wish that there was another book like it at a slightly higher level. We didn't use the guide book since at the time there were no samples. Now that I can see the samples I wish we had used the guide book as well. Janet
  11. I am considering Science Shepherd biology for my 9th grader next year. I have read several positive reviews of this program, but they are all a few years old. I was wondering if there are any recent reviews of this program. How does it compare to Apologia's?
  12. My daughter is starting her competition season as well as auditioning for ballet summer intensives. She auditioned for several . She really would like to go to the one she is on the wait list for, but doesn't want to loose a spot in one of the other ones. Dad is still trying to figure out how to pay for her to go away this year. She hasn't ever been to one and is getting a little bit of a late start since she will have just turned 14 this summer. On the competition side she got a ballet scholarship a dance convention last weekend. That included a partial scholarship to a week long intensive this summer. I don't think she can go because airfare and hotel would likely cost as much as three weeks at the ballet summer intensive that is in our state, but she is considering it as an option. At the other dance convention that her team went to they placed 1st. She will compete a solo for the first time in a few weeks. She can't wait. I am a little nervous, but mostly I can't wait to watch her. Dance is her passion and she has really started to take off this year. I love watching her do what she loves.
  13. I am using AAR level 2 with my 10 year old. It is the first program that really works for both my son and me. It moves at just the right pace for us and has the right amount of practice. It took me a long time to find a program that is the right fit. I am not going to switch. ETA - R and S is one of the programs that I tried with him, but it didn't work for us. It just moved too fast with not enough practice. My son is dyslexic. Barton works for him, but I can't afford it. SPIRE moves too slow. Most other phonics programs that I have tried move too fast or don't have enough practice for him. I wish AAR had been written when we first started reading. It has just been so good for him. Janet
  14. I keep looking at this program. I would love to hear what people that have started think about it. Janet
  15. I would check out classes at Creative Live. I have watched John Greengo's Fundamentals of Digital Photography. I really recommend that class. He also has many classes that are specific to cameras. If you can find one of his classes for your camera that would also be a great starting place and cheaper than the Fundamentals of Digital Photography class. Janet
  16. This is interesting. We have been having issues with our post office. They told a friend of mine that they are not bound by the shipping promises of Amazon. This December they having been holding packages transferred to them for at least 3 days and sometimes more before delivering the item to us. I follow the tracking information and I know exactly when an item gets to the local post office, but then it is a guess when the post office will actually deliver the item. From what others are saying it sounds like it is an issue with just our post office though. I had been wondering if others were having the same issues. This is the first year that Amazon has been transferring things to the post office instead of letting UPS or Fedex deliver the packages. We rarely had any problems when it came from UPS or Fedex directly. Janet
  17. We have been having really bad luck with Amazon. Actually it isn't Amazon, but our local post office. Amazon will ship it out quickly, but our post office will take 3-5 after it has arrived there before delivering the items to us. It has been taking close to a week before many of our Prime items arrive to our house. We have complained. Amazon looked at our account and noticed the issue as well. They are changing our account to not have things transferred to the local post office for delivery. I haven't ordered anything since the change so I don't know if this is going to help or not, but I am hopeful. Janet
  18. Does anyone have a mac and cheese recipe that they are willing to share? Every holiday my in laws make mac and cheese with Velveeta. My daughter loved it before she researched what is actually in Velveeta. Now she won't eat it, but would love to have some homemade mac and cheese at the holidays. I tried a recipe that I found online at Thanksgiving. It looked great, but tasted like flour. Janet
  19. This looks great. Do you have to be a member of 4-H to be able to buy the book? This looks like it would be a fun class to teach at co-op. Janet
