  1. Yes. Five Little Peppers is the audio book.
  2. I have been using this with my son. He is dyslexic so we are using it a few levels below his grade level. I have looked through several levels. It is by far my favorite language arts program. It has everything included which is what my son wanted. He wanted one language arts program instead of individual components for spelling, writing, literature, etc.
  3. Pawz4me- What are the brands that you do like? I am looking for a new food for my dogs. I have tried Taste of the Wild with my dogs and one doesn't do well on it. I think she needs something with more fiber.
  4. What iron supplements did you take?
  5. I have recently started supplementing with Magnesium. I know it is different for everyone, but how long did it take you to notice a difference with the restless leg issue?
  6. Has anyone taken Selenium to help with thyroid?
  7. I do have the four iron labs, but not taken at the same time. ferritin - 15 (which I consider low) % saturation is 8 (very low) serum iron and TIBC are both in the normal range. The iron serum is towards the low side (33) and TIBC more towards the high end of the range reference. I am having issues with my legs at night. I have read that iron deficiency can be a factor in Restless leg syndrome. There are other things that can be a factor. I am just trying to rule out the iron possibility.
  8. Thank you. I will look at Ferro-Sequels. I have tried a few different iron supplements, but I haven't found one that seems to make much of a difference yet.
  9. I know that there is a connection between thyroid and iron. My iron levels have been low for awhile now. Sometimes falling into anemic levels, but other times just low. My latest blood work shows that my thyroid numbers are heading in the wrong direction. TSH is now 4 and free T4 is 1.05. Last year when my TSH was checked it was around 2.6. My ferritin level is in the normal range, but really low 15 (tested in March). A different doctor ran some additional irons test recently. My iron saturation is 8. Normal is 15-55. I know that while several of these numbers are in the normal range they are not in the optimal range. Any advice? Supplement suggestions? I know I need to go back to the doctor, but these labs have been run by different doctors so I am not sure which one I want to see. I also don't know what I should ask for or what I really want other than to feel better. Jan
  10. If Walker The Flying Circus of Physics isn't taken, I would like it. Janet
  11. Monarch isn't what I think of when I think self-paced. We are almost done with our one month free trial. My daughter likes it well enough that we are going to continue. I set up the school year. I assigned her classes. Then Monarch filled in the calendar with assignments and due dates. Anything multiple choice the computer grades. Essays and labs are sent to me to grade. I can delete any assignment that I don't want her to do. Most units have a place where I can add a document with a lesson that I want to add. It is not my favorite curriculum, but it is getting done with little fuss. That is what my daughter and I both needed right now.
  12. My son is in 8th grade. He is dyslexic, and we have spent lots of time learning to read. He is very close to being on level with reading. Now we need to focus on grammar and writing. He likes workbooks and things he can work on independently. He would like a program that combines grammar and writing. He isn't thrilled with the samples from Abeka or BJU, but I think they might work for him. I like the idea of HAKE, but I can't get passed the type of paper they use. Any other programs I should consider? Jan
  13. Thank you so much for posting this. That is great news for us.
  14. Would you be willing to share this if you end up doing it? I have both the History of the American People and American Odyssey. I am leaning towards using American Odyssey with TGC videos in 2017-2018 with my daughter. I will probably also add in the critical thinking books used in the Funda Funda plans. Janet
  15. My daughter completed Econ in a box through a class at our co-op this year. She was helping me sort through books yesterday and commented that it was a good course. She is my kid that doesn't usually like anything school related. I asked her if she thought I should use it for her brother in a few years and she said she found parts of it interesting and would recommend that I use it with her brother. That may not be saying a lot, but if you knew this student that is high marks coming from her.
  16. I have narrowed down the choices for my 11th grader to three options. I was wondering if anyone who has used these programs could compare them. Option 1 Oak Meadow World History. Main advantage is that this one has options for output related to history. The main disadvantage is that it is based on textbook. I think my daughter would like the get it done aspect of a textbook, but in general finds textbooks boring. Option 2 Biblioplan. Main advantage is that I could cover the same time period with her and her 8th grade brother. Companion guide would be like a text book, but also includes lots of books. Main disadvantage is that she wouldn't have an many creative options for output. Option 3 Old Western Culture. Main advantages are also disadvantages - videos and great books. My daughter is very uninterested in anything school related. She likes to read books that she finds interesting. She does plan to go to college, but is leaning towards a state school with a focus on dance. I am not sure how many great books she will read in college so I would like for her to read some in high school. Any input one which would be appropriated.
  17. I am thinking about using Oak Meadow biology, world history, and maybe world literature for my dd next year. If you have used any of these courses could you tell me how helpful the teacher's manuals were for you? I wish I could see a sample of one of the teacher's manuals.
  18. Any recommendations on good classes or teachers? I have some generic semesters that I am planning on using. My daughter has never had an online class.
  19. Do you have a book or website that you can recommend to learn more information about the Autoimmune Protocol? My daughter was diagnosed with Hashimoto Thyroiditis almost 5 months ago. I think she is finally ready to start discussing dietary changes to see if we can make more progress on getting her healthy.
  20. My husband has a Samsung Galaxy that he likes. I really like the camera on my LG G3. I haven't tested it myself, but I love the features of the LG G4 camera. Jan
  21. For me low iron was the first symptom. They also did an occult test and said that there was some blood present, but endoscope and colonoscopy were both normal and only showed an issue with acid reflux and that i have a hiatal hernia. My primary care doctor had mentioned sending me to a blood doctor if everything from the GI doctor turned out okay. Now and I am thinking I should ask her to recheck my iron before doing that. Chris- How long after stopping the medicine did your symptoms go away? Jan
  22. That is interesting. Thank you for sharing about it. I have been having some symptoms of internal bleeding and I wondered if this medicine could be part of the problem. I asked the nurse and she said that isn't very likely, but like you it is really the only thing that has changed. I just switched to a different medicine. I guess I will wait and see if my issues resolve now that I am not taking the medicine. Jan
  23. Chris- Would you mind sharing a little more about this either in this thread or through PM? How did you know that Prilosec was making you bleed internally? Jan
  24. Are the recommended numbers the same for teens and adults? My daughter had some blood work done and her TSH number is a lot higher than the ones mentioned in this thread. We are waiting for the results of more tests (antibodies). She will most likely be heading to an endocrine doctor after we get the test results. I don't know much about thyroid issues. I am not really sure what kinds of things we should ask about at the appointment. Does anyone have any recommendations for websites to help us prepare for the appointment? Janet
  25. Here is a link for information about how these work. http://landryacademy.com/live-classes/generic-semesters/These would be for not this fall, but the next one. (2016-2017). I have never bought these so I don't have any personal experience using them. Janet
