  1. In my area, calling the ambulance/police would be the only way to get the child admitted to inpatient mental health treatment. That’s why I suggest it as an option after discussing it with your providers(make a safety plan).
  2. I know this has come up before and Google has 9 million options… but- what supplements have you used to manage perimenopause symptoms? Mainly hot flashes, anxiety, short-temper? I take magnesium at night which helps a ton with sleep and night sweats. Forgot it last night and woke up drenched multiple times, ugh. How about during the day? thanks, ladies.
  3. Go for it and also I’m so glad you’re enjoying your “new” position! Seems like you just started, time flies.
  4. Having dealt with this ourselves mostly by hoping it would go away- you need to intervene. Don’t wait until he’s even bigger and older. Let the psych know what you’re going to do (take away devices), make a safety plan with them for how to react when your child gets violent (you will call crisis team, or ambulance, police, etc)- transport to hospital for in patient psych hold, etc. the computer addiction won’t go away on its own & if you’re not dealing with it because of worry about your safety, you need a solid plan. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this and yes, it’s not common knowledge how to treat. Throw in the ASD and ODD and people don’t know what to do. There are meds to help with the violence and instability that could be trialed during an inpatient pediatric psych hold. There are facilities that handle internet addiction but they’re pricey.
  5. There’s a Bear Gryllis series of outdoor adventure books. snap circuits? make-do cardboard construction kit subscription box for sciency or engineering kit Camping gear or hammock ninja slack line drone
  6. Paraprofessional in public school or school for special Ed students . Pay is not great but it’s a good job for some people. Here there are different levels with different pay (1:1 aides make much less than teaching assistants). Lots of opportunity for crafty stuff (laminating, making manipulatives, tasks cards, etc). Good school districts include benefits & trainings. After having training one can also work evenings with adults with disabilities or provide respite in the community too. Or in home care worker at homes for adults with developmental disabilities. That’s a state job in my area.
  7. Yes, this! My kids all needed to size up wardrobes last month and old stand by’s like old navy or cat and hack at target has changed their feel or weight of cotton tees. I’ve had to stop wearing all tees except for the Bella and canvas ones too I can’t stand the weight of heavier fabrics anymore.
  8. I’ve put on weight this fall so I just ordered myself 6 new fun teacher tees. I purposefully asked dh not to get me anything since I prefer things I pick out myself.
  9. My favorite history poster (or tee) says “don’t make me repeat myself” signed… History
  10. But do you enter it when you start reading it? That puts a date in. I don’t enter a book name until I’m done and then I click “mark as read”. My way doesn’t record a date.
  11. We all have it right now too so we are postponing until New Years and will try to see my parents and have my oldest come home then instead. If everyone tests negative by then.
  12. Oh bummer, I never put in dates, just mark books as read once I finish them so no dates show up and then no books show as shelved this year. I usually read a book in one day so just never bothered with putting in dates or that it was in progress. Now I’ve realized there’s no way to separate books out by each year that way. (This was my first year using goodreads)
  13. Stay home 🙂 we have covid right now from sick people not staying home from school Especially with a fever- you’re likely contagious with something.
  14. Jumping back in to second the Superfeet inserts. I have them in all my shoes except Birks and Dansko.
  15. Alegria and Orthofeet are not supportive enough for me and those are always recommended. Dansko and Birks would be my usual recommendation. Have you tried any other Birks like the clogs? or Stegman wool slides? Vionic sandals are good but their shoes didn’t have enough support for me. The slippers are ok. I also suggest going to a running store and getting their opinion. I use Brooks and Hokas but they have to be their most supportive/ orthopedic shoe and even then I add inserts. Schedule that podiatrist appointment 🙂
  16. Yum box subscription of snacks from various countries? These are fun to taste test together.
  17. Well, the kids have covid the week before Xmas AGAIN. also- a few of my own students and my daughter’s teacher.. and a bunch of staff in my school
  18. So much- teaching this week, lesson prep for Jan, grocery shopping… at least presents are all done. and little kids just tested positive for covid- so probably none of those things are going to get done. cheers! This is now the second time we’ve had covid the week before Xmas.
  19. Thanks! These are the only granola bar ds will eat and we always have a stash.
  20. Just chiming in to say “me too”. In North Africa, how about you? I’ve never heard another person mention this 🙂
  21. Oh, can’t forget Johnny Depp- every character he plays is just bizarre.
  22. My older daughter takes it as needed for anxiety during the day and for a long time took it before school daily. She didn’t fall asleep in class or anything. Try it one day and see how tired it makes you.
  23. Managing ADHD in School: The Best Evidence-Based Methods for Teachers https://a.co/d/3jkIM3S Did a PD using this book last year and it was pretty good.
  24. add TA or aide in the Gen Ed classroom to provide prompts and redirection since he already has an IEP- update the iep to add this visual reminders on desk (self checks with a timer) self check or reminders can be programmed into a watch, don’t have to be given by another adult standing desk, bouncy bands, wobble stool, weighted lap or shoulder pads, heavy work, OT consult more exercise outside of school hours move to co teaching classroom for sped teacher support gum, different fidgets, caffeine? behavior plan written by special Ed teacher or BCBA homework planner written in by teacher or signed by teacher, goes home nightly, or hw posted online or emailed to student and parent for parents to check what assignments (again- put it in the iep so it actually gets done)
