  1. Can I ask what is wrong with the brown ones? I've used the brown ones for years and haven't noticed anything wrong with them. What is the difference? Thanks!
  2. We just finished tom Sawyer. It was so much better than me reading aloud, great accent, different voices and music at the end of each chapter.
  3. Why cant you just pick it up again in the fall? That's what I'm doing for a bunch of books. That way you get your summer off, but make sure no concepts are missed.
  4. Well, I use LLATL, I don't think it is light. I also use the Pathway Readers, just the readers though, nothing more.
  5. We didn't buy it either. the only things I have had to buy so far are plaster of paris and thermometers. I think the plaster of paris wasn't even a required thing, it was an activity in one of the books that went along with the program.
  6. It's been a while, but I don't remember any of it tying together. The geographic locations were always different. I was a newbie, I would not do it that way again. IThat said, we enjoyed all those books very much.
  7. I also use a handwriting program, and wordly wise for my 4th grader. She reads aloud from her McGuffey reader, but that is mainly for articulation issues. I really like LLATL and feel it is very solid.
  8. wow, that sounds great. How expensive was it? I wonder if the book could be found used, or if it is very new maybe not. Thanks for the great review. I will definitely keep that in mind.
  9. We really like DanceMat typing, from BBC, like mentioned above. It is geared for young kids though.
  10. When I have been told I can't bring it in, they provide a free locker.
  11. hated it, I even called the company and asked what the game was about. I thought you would learn about the elements, but the only info was on the cards, which is just like what is on the periodic table. Really lame.
  12. We start with history and read alouds bc that is our favorite. I learned long ago that they look forward to starting school if it is something enjoyable to come down for. After that its: Geography LA small break Math Lunch, long break Science , Art, Music depending on the day
  13. we are using Elemental Science too, just now finishing up Earth. Not sure if I am going to carry over space to next fall, (we take the summer off ) or not. I could do it this summer, just reading the books.
  14. We've used Animals and their worlds and AS1 with no problem. Their timeline has heading at the top of the pages which list events in christianity at the appropriate time in history. That's all I have seen that isn't secular.
  15. We love LLATL here. My 2nd grader is doing really well with it. Not a ton of writing required.
  16. well. I don't know what you are using, stuff can vary greatly, but for my two I spent around $650 for next year. I guess if you spent $1000 it wouldn't surprise me.
  17. Ok, wouldn't it be nice if everyone who doesn't sell their old stuff, but donates it to good will or so instead bc of the lack of profit in selling it, woulod offer it free for shipping? Wouldn't that be awesome if more people did that? I think I'm going to start doing that soon. That way, I know someone is getting it who really wants it, and I get the good feeling from helping another homeschool mom out.
  18. I agree, I considered buying a bunch of stuff off the boards here about a month or so ago, but the prices were just a few dollars under retail. If I am going to take a risk with my money, and it is always a risk, you know, then it has to be worth it. A few more dollars and you get brand new? Easy decision.
  19. Elemental Science is what I am using with a 7 and 9 year old. It's easy to get done, and I do find extra books at the library very easily.

  21. I try to do a chapter a day, usually that means 30 min of reading out of the book. with all the other reading I do for history, that is all I can handle. We do our read alouds at night usually. We also have a history read aloud going that we do in the morning. We are slogging through HP 5 right now. Those chapters are long!!!
  22. You can still just order exclusives. At least, I just did last week for AS2. It was the print format though. I got a confirmation email the next day, and I was pleasantly suprised, having never gotten any such thing from them before! Delivery was fast too, I have received all but one thing in my order already. I don't understand shipping for Ebooks, and why they are not instant downloads. I think I would call them on the phone, instead of email and question them about this directly.
  23. Probably not much help to you, but this is why I started co-sleeping. It was the ONLY way we could all sleep pretty much through the night. I quickly learned to bf in my sleep lol, and it was great from there on. Lack of sleep is a killer, so take it easy on yourself and those expectations.
