  1. It was a good year. Lots of milestones for me that year, very important things that happened in my life. Graduated, started college, met my future dh. And I'm pretty sure it all happened just the other day, not more than a decade ago. But I keep seeing people talking about buying older vehicles, 199? models. And I think, that's not old. '95 was just a couple...... um.... nevermind. :001_huh: :tongue_smilie:
  2. Blink is my fav, but my next fav is Vincent and the Doctor
  3. lol that sounds like a great job! Sorta like what I do now, but don't get paid for it. lol
  4. why is it crazy? When I was little my parents talked about not having TV, barely or not having indoor plumbing, things like that. My grandma had to work on a farm as a kids. She had one everyday dress and one church dress. She walked to school and took her lunch in a pail, until 8th grade because that was as far as girls went. But I don't ever remember thinking wow, that's weird. It was just like, huh...so that's the way it was.
  5. I'm thinking of doing the same for my 11yo. She'll be 12 shortly after christmas, so either then or for her birthday getting her some mascara and lip gloss. Nothing heavy, just something to satisfy her desire to wear make-up. Back when I was in school, I remember girls starting to experimenting with makeup around 6-7th grade
  6. :grouphug: I'm so sorry. I just lost several chickens too. It's so frustrating and so saddening.
  7. I put in my application at the college. :D I'm waiting to hear back from them to get the application for surgical tech. I'm excited!
  8. oh that's good to hear. I really think that's the direction I want to go.
  9. You know what they say: Great Depp-heads think alike :D I thought about going to a university instead, but I was really afraid of sinking a ton of money into it and not earning enough later to cover the cost. I know too many people who have gotten masters and then end up working at Wal-Mart or a used car lot, or something. If I do surgical technology, they offer a 1yr certificate or a 2yr degree option. I already have everything in the second year except A&P II and Microbiology. I have everything in the 1st year except the surgical classes. So I could realistically finish up a 2yr degree in 1 year. I asked dh what he thought about me going into drafting. He said I'd complain about my wrist hurting all the time, and when the architect messed up people would call and chew me out and I'd cry about it. OK. So what about surgical technology? He (imitating me) said, "huh? hand you what? forceps? What do forceps look like? This one? The vice like thingy?" That had me :lol::lol: because that's exactly what I do when I'm helping him work on something and he asks me to hand him tools.
  10. I worked with a woman who was legally named Genevieve. Her mother actually meant to name her Geneva, but whoever filled out the birth certificate didn't know how to spell so legally her name is Genevieve. That aside, I don't think most people would confuse the two names. They're both lovely names.
  11. Whatever it was got into the pen. The door is off the hinges (it needed some repairs and now it's down) I wonder if it wasn't a large dog?
  12. Something has been killing off my chickens one at a time for a while now. We've been trying to find whatever it is (most likely a racoon) and kill it, but hadn't succeeded yet. The last couple we lost disappeared without a trace and we suspect it might have been and owl that got them. Just a little bit ago I awoke to the sound of squawking chickens. I don't know what's happened. There's one dead hen and a live rooster in the coop (he's the one that's squawking) but all the rest have just disappeared. I can't find them. The dog took off chasing something in the woods. He's back inside now, but he keeps making noises. I don't think it was a coon or possum this time. It was something that would leave dead chickens behind.
  13. I'm thinking about this one. I've never considered it before. IDK... I"m a thinker. I love just thinking about things, and I love researching things. I tend to be more on the artsy/creative/highly disorganized side. Part of it is appealing to my creative side, but the detail orientation is making my disorganized side run and hide behind the couch.
  14. Are there any certain things you would need to be good at for that type of job-- art, math skills?
  15. right now I'm thinking surgical technology, or some computer field...
  16. If you were going to go into a career/technical field (2yr degree), what would you choose?
  17. OK, this one has a built in shelf bra. IDK what the purpose of it is, because it doesn't actually hold anything up. lol
  18. ohhh... yikes. But the other part made me  I just meant that when I put on a T shirt you can tell that I have 2 separate books, but the cami made it look like one wide book-- like a tire around my chest.
  19. So, um.... I'm trying out some of the suggestions on the frumpy mom threads to see what works for me, like structured tops and layering. Today I tried a tailored button up, but it was thin so I put a cami under it. After putting a cami on and buttoning the shirt up, I realized I had a very unattractive case of uni-b@@b. How does one keep the girls defined while layering.
  20. So what's the poor kid supposed to do? Color his head with a sharpie everyday till his hair grows out? He looked liked a nice normal kids to me, with normal hair.
  21. I saw this suggested somewhere, (maybe here? can't remember) and thought it sounded like a good idea. Especially for someone like me who loves the idea of unschooling but can't entirely commit to it. The idea is that you spend 3hrs a day, 3 days a week, 3 weeks a month schooling. The rest of your time is spent as an unschooler. It sounds so do-able, and relaxed and still systematic. lol
