It's been a while since I've been here and I wanted to drop by and say hi. Lots of big changes in my life since I was last online.
I think last time I was on here I was considering going back to school... or maybe I already had. I left my husband in charge of homeschooling so I could focus on my education and return to work, but that didn't work out well at all. We put the kids in public school because they were getting very behind. Common core math blew my son's mind so he ended up being placed a year behind, but otherwise the kids have done a great job adjusting to school. I'm going to be putting up our books as I get a chance. Have to figure out how to price them; never sure about that part.
I finished my associates that I started way back in the 90's and am working on a BS. Hopefully next May I will graduate and be on my way to teaching computer classes in a high school. I'm really excited about it.

I just put the arms on stitch holders. It's not there, where the shoulder seams would be, but the neck part of the shoulders, where the shoulder begins. THe back of the neck between the shoulders, then from armpit to armpit. Clear as mud?

I'm knitting a 0-3mo sweater for a friend's baby, due in Jan. My gauge is correct, but I keep looking at it and thinking, are babies really this tiny? LOL It's been a long time since mine were babies and I it's hard to remember them being that little.
But seriously, are babies this tiny? The top of the neck in back, between shoulders, is 4" and where I stopped increasing at the bottom of the arm holes is 5", it will be 10" long. Sound OK?

How long do you have until your school year starts?
Do I understand you right that you want to have him in the school in less than a month?

Oh, no. I have til Aug of next year. It's just that unless he hits some developmental milestone and takes off with this, I dont' think we'll finish second by then. We're behind schedule now, having slowed down to accommodate his pace. I had wanted to be at 2nd grade now, and we still have several weeks of first. I can see us getting about a semester behind overall so it will be difficult to put him in 3rd next fall.
He will be 8 next month, and almost 9 when he is supposed to go into 3rd.

My son becomes a comedian when he has school work he doesn't want to do. Friday he told me the capital of MS is M. LOL. Sorry kid, I've heard that one before.

He did sometimes, but they were mostly just for himself.
Our driver's ed teacher had us drive him to his house every afternoon so he could pick up his diet coke. He never shared. :(

One day at the store, I tucked my babies into their car seats, locked the doors, then pushed to buggy to the nearest corral (which was further away than I would have liked). I came back to find a man standing by my car. He said he thought I went shopping and left the babies in the car, so he was watching them to make sure they were OK. Told him I'd never ever do that, but thank you for caring enough to want them to be safe.
You know the safety level of the area, you know your kids maturity level and what situations they're capable of handling. While I can understand the woman's motivation, I do think it's a little extreme to call the cops on children within my own view. But then I'm a mom, and I have a bad tendency to be everyone's mom... so hey...

Game of Thrones by GeorgeR.R. Martin. It's the beginning of a series called something about Ice and Fire. Truly excellent books. I read them more than a year ago and haven't read anything that even comes close since!
Oh, that's one I had meant to read then forgot about! Thanks for reminding me. Definitely want to try that one.

I need an escape from reality. :) Haven't read anything in a while. Was reading historical romances for a while there, but I'm tired of those. I want something a little more cerebral but not too heavy, I start college classes monday. What's a good read?

Is the college in town the school that offers the 4 year degree you were thinking about. Most universities offer a tuition benefit of 3 or 6 a year. You may want to find if the school offers such benefits and see if you can land a job there.
No, it's a different college about 30mi past that one. The classes will be all online, so I won't have to drive down there

ok, thinking a little more about it. Because I feel so uncertain about the future, maybe I should go ahead with getting this certificate. Just continue to focus on the here and now. Once I have my degree and certificate, once I have that little bit of security, I can deal with whatever comes next.

Live and let live, unless they are a danger to us in some way. Like wasp or ants. If a bug is in the house and fairly harmless we try to relocate. Even spiders, they're good. They eat other bugs.

what is the job placement outlook with your associate's degree? If it is good, I'd be inclined to say get the job and attempt to find a company that offers education benefits so you can go further without incurring debt.
That's something I hadn't considered and should! The job market here is tough. It's a small town with a college that has a population the size of a small town. But I'm really hoping to get on at a bank. My instructor keeps trying to get me to go into insurance.

I was pushing to get my son on level with the school by the time school started this year. I had a spat with them last year because they wanted to move him back a grade instead of catching him up. So I'm still homeschooling him, but we had to slow down because he needed more time to learn to read. He's doing OK, he's just taking a little longer. So we're in the last few weeks of MP 1. I was going to go on to MP 2 after this, but I really need to put him in school next year and to do so he needs to be up to 3rd grade level. We may really be pushing it at this rate.
Any advice?

For myself and would like some feedback. I'm starting my last semester of a tech degree in finance. I'm also picking up an office certificate because 1. I already had most of the classes and 2. The extra three classes I'm taking to get it are giving me the hrs I needed to keep my financial aid.
But when I made this decision, I was thinking I would never go any further than to get an associates. It's taken me 20 years to get this one LOL. But I've recently discovered that there is a good university here that will take 36 of my tech hours, and I could turn this degree into a general business or business with a concentration in management information systems. MIS sounds more interesting to me but I'd get thru general business quicker. Or there's even a BS or BS in communications, but I'm not sure what I'd do with that.
The thing is, I only have 2 semesters of pell left. If I go on, the office certificate will not be real useful. It could be if I don't go on, but if I do, there's no real reason to get it. I could be wasting my time when I could be taking comp II, a science and stats. Or I could just go ahead as planned, have a fairly easy semester, graduate with my degree and certificate, then worry about my comp and sciences when I get there.
With my marriage heading toward divorce, the only thing I"m really thinking right now is, hurry up get a job, be able to support myself. I need a little help seeing beyond that to what I really need to do with my education.

The school says she has to be held back, they have no choice, and even if I did work with her and get her caught up to grade level they can't have her place tested because they just don't do that.
It really doesn't make any sense to me. :(

Y'all remember my delima with the public school? I pulled my son out of school and have been doing time4learning as well as book work from memoria press. I'm really pleased with his progress. My friend who babysits and his grandmother and father all find it easy to do t4l with him while they are watching him. Then during my free time I'm working out of books with him.
One thing that gets me, there are things the teacher said he couldn't do. Well of course, we hadn't gotten to them. That's why he was there, to learn these things and get caught up. So, things like adding 3 digits that he couldn't do he's now doing. He just needed someone to show him how. Once he was shown he caught on fast. That tells me no one at the school took the time to show him the things he didn't know. They just said he doesn't know this, he should go back a grade, no way to catch him up.
Trying to let that go and move on. But they still want dd2 (11yo in 5th) to be retained and that there is no choices there either. I'm struggling with this one because I think she could get some help with things at school that I'm not as equipped to help her with, but don't want her to be held back solely because she had to be put into a tier 1 class. I've asked her how she feels about it, and she does't want to be held back, but she is enjoying school and making friends. SHe asked if I could get her caught up so she can move up, told her it doesn't work that way. The school won't let her do that. So she doesn't know what she wants either.

Thank you! Finishing my degree gave me a wonderful sense of accomplishment that I really needed.
