  1. We have used Spelling Power for two years. My children are constantly recognizing their misspelled words in books they are reading. The review is great. I have contemplated Phonetic Zoo and might use it down the road, but so far Spelling Power has been giving us great results so I am reluctant to switch at the moment. Good luck. I hope you find what works for you.
  2. Thanks so much...I appreciate your knowledge and experience. I have been having trouble posting a new thread today. Has this ever happened to you?
  3. thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it...
  4. We like Math U See. I didn't start using it until 2nd grade though b/c I didn't start home schooling until then. I would start it with my little one though. I plan too. I have two who use it and I love the way it works. My other son uses Singapore. It is just the way he learns. We did Rightstart but it was too difficult to sit with him for every single lesson when I have other children to tend to also. I do like the abacus though. Sorry if I am not much help.
  5. I am not quite sure yet. My son is two. My older children started out in school, but I want to home school the little ones from the beginning. I just thought Montesorri sounded like a good option. Do you know of any others? Thanks so much...
  6. Thank you so much for sharing these... that is what I was looking for....
  7. Can anyone give me the best website to look at for Montesorri curriculum? Thanks so much...
  8. Hello, can someone direct me to the thread that had sample schedules on it? Or, could you just share with me some sample schedules? I am trying to create a new schedule for my 3 children w/o reinventing the wheel. I am having a hard time making it portrait size, but that is what I want. thanks a bunch....
  9. Wow, what beautiful photos. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for the suggestions too...
  10. Thank you so much. I am going to check that out.
  11. I just thought it would be easier to school the olders if I had something cool for him set up. I was going to use the suggestions in Managers of Their Home by assigning an older child to play with him for 30 minute stretches and so forth. At least that will get us through a part of the morning until lunch and nap where he is occupied with something other than Diego (his fav)...
  12. Hello, I was looking for suggestions to set up my two year old's room so that he can have a little "school time" too. Any neat, creative suggestions out there or links to fun items....maybe some used? Let me know...

  17. I understand that. I have a four month old. I am interested in the same approach. I just posted that a second ago. I need to focus on writing this year. I just looked through what we did, and no papers. I am so dissappointed. I did write goals for what I called two semesters. One up to Christmas break and then the rest of the year. I realized that I had too many 'workbooks' last year and I am trying to veer away from that. This will be my 3rd year hs. this year was so much better than the 1st and I am hoping the more experienced I get, the more I will feel that I accomplished my goals. The kids love it and I couldn't imagine being w/o them....
  18. I just pulled that book out last night. I read it last summer and it helped me so much this year. I scheduled almost every week for their school work. I even did two straight weeks when I had the baby in Jan. My husband helps with schooling too. I didn't limit to times...just to get it done. What I found with my boys, especially lately is that they are constantly asking me, "What do we do next", even though it is right on the schedule. My biggest problem with setting exact times is that I am always feel like I am working around the little ones schedule. Like I am under the gun so to speak. I just need a fresh approach. I am going to try to home school year round from now on starting after our 5 week summer break since we need it after schooling all year. I am hoping that will keep us fresh and motivated. My plan is 6 weeks on and 1 week off, two weeks off at Christmas, Feb. when everyone is fried, 1 extra week at Easter and 4 weeks during summer. that is the plan. We will see....thanks for your response....
  19. Hi, I just joined in April and I am still trying to figure out how to use this forum effectively. How can I easily go back and check on posts that I have made to check out the replies without having to search through all the other threads? I am so confused. Thanks so much... any tips would be helpful....
  20. My dd, 11 and ds, 9 having been using MUS this past year. We have really enjoyed it thus far, but today my dd was wanting to go back to Horizon's which we did last year. I really feel like we need to stick it out. She is going into 6th grade and has one more year to complete before pre-algebra. Am I understanding that this program isn't what it is cracked up to be? She is not super strong in math and I really liked the way it was taught. My ds practically learned Gamma multiplication w/o a whole lot of effort from me. I hate switching math programs b/c I feel they lose so much. My other ds, 9, uses Singapore and does much of the same or more work as my dd. I can't see the other two doing that one b/c it is so fast paced. So, too stick with it or not? That is my question...
  21. My friend just started using that program and they love it. I might have to check it out for next year. I already have everything I want already for the upcoming year. YOur schdule looks similar to what I have. Sometimes I wonder if it is too much. We seldom finish everything and that bothers me. You will have to let me know how it goes. Thank you for responding. Oh, can you tell me what the difference is with quick reply and post reply? I am a little confused on how to use this site effectively. thanks again, erin
  22. Hello, I was wondering if anyone can give me a sample schedule of what they accomplish in a day. I mean like how many subjects, how long it takes, how long for free/fun reading, extracurricular activities and so forth. There doesn't seem to be enough time or attention span in the day to cover everything we need to cover successfully. I barely covered writing this year. I am going to remedy that with IEW. That and reading needs to be our main focus. Please help with any suggestions that works well. Thanks so much....
  23. Thank you for your response. I read the statement of Faith just now. I appreciate you directing me to that. i agree with what your friend said about the church. I don't feel that anyone I know in the Church would make anyone feel so ostracized as that woman did at that CC meeting. I was ready to join. The whole meeting I was thinking of ways to make it work, then "blam"...anyway, so that is when I thought I would just get the cards with the cycle set and do it at home with my children. I know we could have fun with it. Do you think this is a reasonable assumption? Thanks again.....
