  1. This is what "I" would do (and I have a 17 yr old daughter): If he is actively pursuing her, I would be letting him know I would be contacting the police and looking into a restraining order. If he's just an idiot who mentioned he has the hots for her, I'd let him know that she's a minor and I would pursue legal options if he ever looked at her again. I would warn my daughter that even if she is interested in him that any relationship with him would be illegal and that she should stay far, far away from him or she would land him in jail. I don't have qualms being the ugly psycho hosebeast Mom.
  2. We do the Old Navy jeans too. I was excited when I found out they had 30x34 in stock in several styles. It's hard to find any locally. He could actually use a 29 but I was afraid they would be too slim without him being able to try them on.
  3. DS15 wears a 29/30x34 jeans but prefers athletic pants. Suggestions for brands to look for that won't fall off of him but will be long enough? Right now he's wearing cheap Walmart ones that are Mediums and they border on being too short. DH wears the large so I know they would just probably fall right off of DS. He doesn't like the tapered leg joggers that Rue21 and Old Navy are selling now.
  4. We saw it last night. My teens who really aren't familiar with Stephen King books/movies were pretty freaked out. I laughed through most of it. There were 2 jumps that got me. There were a lot of other people in the theater who sounded pretty freaked too. Really, in comparison to some of the other older movies Stephen King movies that I was a junkie reading/watching when I was younger, I really thought IT was mild.
  5. My DD17's boyfriend is kind of picky and has a few food allergies. We already have one sensory eater in the house so it's not big deal here. I don't cook what he's allergic to at all anymore because I am never sure when he'll be here and when he won't. Most of our meals aren't mixed foods. I cook meat, veggies, bread, potatoes, whatever, and everyone just gets what they want. I always make sure there is something everyone will eat. It's really not been inconvenient at all and I would much rather they be picky here than be out grabbing fast food 2-3 nights a week.
  6. This is exciting to me and my DD is so bummed that she turns 18 next year. I grew up tagging along to all my brothers' Scouting events. I lived at the Scout camp during the summer with my parents who ran it. I quit Girl Scouts at age 10 because spending my time with the Boy Scouts was way more fun. It really ISN'T a single gender activity when there are numerous Mothers who are Den and Troop Leaders and female siblings who tag along to all the events. My Mother and StepMother were both heavily involved all the way until all 3 of my brothers achieved their Eagle Scout.
  7. The full videos were released. One that I viewed was nearly 30 minutes and clearly showed he fully intended to arrest her if she didn't cowtow to his demands like previous nurses had done before. His Lieutenant above him also told her the patient would have the right to sue if they took his blood illegally and that she should have just let the officer proceed (and it was indeed illegal) instead of standing up for her patient. She was released and not charged (because they couldn't arrest her for following the law).
  8. My kids' Ped has never asked me to leave the room and as far as I can tell, none of my friends leave their children alone with a dr either. Maybe it's our area. I would fire a Dr that asked me to leave them alone with my child. Our Pediatrician when having the body parts discussion (when they were younger) has even told my children that doctors aren't allowed to see under their bathing suit without Mom or Dad there.
  9. Of course, as someone who's worked in the medical field for nearly 20 years, I also am firmly of the opinion that NO one should attend a Dr Appt alone. Having another set of eyes and ears to help remember what was discussed, etc is so helpful and no one should EVER be left alone in the hospital. You should always have an advocate there for you.
  10. I must be really weird but mine are 17 and 15 and I ALWAYS go to appointments with them. They are minors and cannot legally consent to any treatment, tests, etc. other than reproductive. I do step out of the room for the physical exam at the Urologist's office for my son, but they call me back in the room immediately after they are finished. The teens usually do most of the talking but I am still there. I even refused to leave the room while my daughter was sedated for a biopsy. She is a minor, she was under the influence of medication and couldn't advocate for herself. No way was I leaving her.
  11. You sound like you have a huge heart. Could I caution people about this approach though? There are plenty of children out there who's parents have to lay down food rules, etc in order to control health issues who don't really appreciate having to be an a** and tell their child, no you can't share her fries, fried pickles, fried mozzarella sticks, etc? My son used to be a seriously picky/sensory eater who would gorge on fried & junk foods if they were offered to him and then refuse to eat anything nutritious later. Parents often have good reasons for their limits, even if they don't discuss them with other people. We use to have to police DS's food religiously because of food allergies and horrendous behavioral reactions to food with red or blue dye. I had a family member who didn't believe DS had those issues and would sneak him stuff/usurp my authority on a regular basis, leaving me to pick up the pieces for days.
  12. I gotcha now. Sorry for misunderstanding what you meant. I agree there is definitely a spectrum and no one wants to eat 1x a day for sure. I was just referencing the OP when she said the 10 yr old is often encouraged to eat off the children's menu and that I don't think it's unreasonable. My own kids ate kids menu until they were 12 also and like I said, the teen girl and I both eat it if we can get it away with it.
  13. I don't disagree with you but this family may have more of an attitude of you eat to live, not live to eat. Eating until you are fully satisfied often leads to over-consumption of calories. I, personally, see no need to have to order more expensive adult meals so that a 10 year old can eat over 800-1000 calories in one meal so just so someone we are with won't worry that I'm starving my kids.
  14. We are anti-snackers too. I always thought my neighbor cooked appallingly small amounts of food for a family of 5 and that their kids must be starving . Now that I've been through a college level nutrition class as well as have started on my own journey to be healthier, I have realized that my neighbor actually cooks normal serving sizes and our family was overeating, even though we didn't allow snacking when the kids were younger. Actual serving size amounts are much smaller than what most people think. She can cook 2-3 steaks for 5 people with sides and they are full. I should add she is feeding 15 yr old boy, 18 year old girl, and 21 year old. I have never once heard those teens say they are hungry. My own child used to basically tell anyone who would listen that she was starving, when she actually ate more than anyone in our household (even with pretty much 2x the portion size for portions). Thankfully as she has aged, she has come to her own realization that she didn't really need to eat as much as she was. Now she & I order kids meals or share an order when we go out to eat because 1 plate is more than enough for the both of us. An average kids meal is more than enough calories for almost any person to eat as a meal. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/03/28/unhealthy-kids-meals-restaurants/2019267/ I do think 8-2 might be a bit of a stretch for young kids to go without eating so in the future, I would mention that it will be a long day and she will want to bring lunch or snacks for them.
  15. I had 2 with dairy allergies and couldn't have ANYTHING with casein it in. I would just switch to soy and skip trying 40,000 other formulas http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=117282&page=1
  16. My son has a seriously complicated medical history with possibly inheritable genetic disease(s), yes multiple unfortunately. His is what the Geneticist suspects is a dominant gene mutation. They said we could come back when he was a teenager to do a more in-depth analysis on his possibilities of offspring inheriting his disorders. He has just already made the decision that he will not have biological children to eliminate the risk from the get-go. One of his conditions can cause sub-par fertility so there is a good chance he wouldn't be able to anyway. He would just rather adopt if he ever marries and his partner wants kids, since he is pretty apathetic towards the subject anyway. He knows what a challenge his childhood has been with his issues and the impact that it has had on our family and would rather just avoid all that if possible.
  17. Yeah really. I live where someone over 18 can go from a permit to a license in 31 days. Teens can get their learner permit at 14 years old and as long as they have held a restricted license for 6 months, they can drive alone the day they turn 16. Driver's Ed is not required at all unless you want insurance discounts. A 14-16 year old can even get a hardship license to drive themselves to school/work events. So yeah the idea of an adult having a provisional license is foreign to me.
  18. That's insane to me that ADULTS are given restricted licenses. I'd freaking move. LOL My daughter is allowed to ride with pretty much anyone as long as they are following the law (one 1 unrelated passenger if they are a minor). She'll only drive 1 friend also because she only has 2 seater car.
  19. FEMA has already been activating emergency strike teams. I know of 3 teams that are there or on there way already. I also saw a pic of a convoy of Arkansas Game & Fish boats headed that direction to help with water rescues if they are needed.
  20. Yes I would get a second opinion.
  21. We have a TB limit each month and we stream EVERYTHING (as in no cable or satellite to watch tv). I have 1 teenager that is a heavy Steam gamer and a husband who is obsessed with youtube music. We went over the first 2 months with our limits, then I figured out how to adjust our streaming settings. Where we are at, I can actually stream at the lowest Netflix settings and still have very little issue with buffering. The best/hi def setting uses up to 7 gb/hr. The lowest uses less than 1 gb/hr. For the hubby, I have him set at medium (3 gb/hr). Youtube, they make sure to not pick the 1080p (some apps will let you set it automatically but it won't on our smart tv). I also cranked our Sling stream setting down.
  22. Our favorite low carby snacks- Cottage cheese. Sliced Cheddar cheese and summer sausage. And these::::: soooooooo yummy https://ketodietapp.com/Blog/post/2014/08/20/Strawberry-Cheesecake-Fat-Bombs
  23. Usually our carbs come from vegetables and dairy since they contain them also and we can eat more of them in comparison to getting our carbs from fruit. Berries are the best fruit for low carb diets. If I am trying to hit Ketosis, I keep it under 25 g of carbs a day. 1 medium sized apple has 25 g of carbs. There are 16 g of carbs in a cup of grapes. There are also around 25 g of carbs in a banana. A lot of fruit is really not ideal if you are trying to low carb it (and I still can't get this through my husband's head).
