  1. So glad to hear this...every year I wonder if we're taking chances by leaving out the pies. FWIW, I've licked so many beaters and spoons today, I was probably taking chances anyways....
  2. Our girls want phones because they think EVERYONE else has them (which they might.) BUT, they aren't getting smart phones---oh, no---they are getting basic phones to call and text. They can use their Kindles if they need web stuff without us having the extra cost going smart
  3. As. Little. As. Possible. Setting up Christmas decorations makes my OCD flare. But alas, the family loves decorations...so we decorate.
  4. Oh, my crapness. That sucks! Our premiums didn't go up but a few dollars this year....but guess where hubby's company is taking the money to absorb the cost? Out of the 401k match. It's no coincidence that the match went way down as health care insurance continues to rise.
  5. I can't fathom cooking for 17! You have some mad cooking skills!
  6. Thankfully I only make the pies. If I had to cook a bigger part of the meal, I would definitely take time off.
  7. This year I mapped out all the holiday expenses, including the hidden ones---gack, there are so many! That doesn't mean I'll stick to it, though, because hubby likes to spend and over-spend (gift giving is his love language, which is the only reason I have nice shoes!) I do like the idea of having a separate account. I think that would eliminate a lot of overspending.
  8. I really, REALLY want to, but we've already spent enough time screwing around this year. Of course, I have all the good intentions now...we'll see what happens when next week rolls around.
  9. Interesting question, and I didn't realize that Heathen was actually a religion. I guess I've only heard the term used as a negative reference. ETA: I guess if I were a Heathen, the term being used as anything other than describing my religion would be offensive.
  10. I LOVE this! What a beautiful way to think of it. That's where my head needs to be, as well.
  11. PS. Sorry that happened...injuries suck, especially because you know how hard your kid worked to get to the meets
  12. I'd probably have him rest it until this weekend and assess it then. But yeah, the usual ice, etc.
  13. YUP! This is my mother-in-law too! I can't even explain the damage done by her words.
  14. My kids weren't big fans of Elemental Science, although part of the problem could have been me. What's worked better this year is Real Science for Kids (although I guess it's called Focus on Middle School Science?) http://gravitaspublications.com/
  15. I think SSL is fine as an intro for a 3rd grader, as long as they go at a good clip. It's a fun way to start learning Latin but will likely be too easy to linger over for long.
  16. I think that people are (sadly) accepting a loss of privacy in ways that we never would have before. It's really becoming the norm, and I'm not ok with that. That said, I spend way more time online blabbing about stuff than I probably should
  17. My hubby doesn't get off work until 10 p.m. at the earliest. So my time is as soon as the kids go to bed until he gets home. I think it's SOOOO important to MAKE time no matter what, because moms matter too.
  18. LOL....was it our family? JK...but it sounds just like us. PS. Glad her party turned out well :D
  19. Maybe we're both morbid! Maybe I've read too many scary books....
  20. Too true! Whatever I google, I start getting ads for in the different places I go online. Creepers!
  21. {{shudder}} I'll keep my passwords in my head, thank you very much! Now that I think on it....I think someone once told me that the mark of the beast would be a microchip. Maybe that's why I'm creeped out.....
  22. ^^^ Yep, it's what all my fellow fiction writers were doing at one point, so I jumped on the proverbial bandwagon. That said, I think it really depends on what kind of job you want. LinkedIn works well for people who work it, in particular fields. There are freelance writers who use it constantly to find their next gigs.
  23. The writer in me can't help thinking that someone would cut off your hand to get your chip, if they really wanted it :scared:
