  1. That's great! I'd never seen that one before! I swear I'm really a 12 year old boy.
  2. My husband's stocking this year: Guitar picks and strings (ha!) A nice cigar (gag...but he likes them) Some body wash/shampoo combo thing that I like the smell of Chocolate I know he likes Lottery tickets Hmmm....not very helpful for you. I put one of these tuner that attaches to the guitar in his stocking last year, and he loves it.
  3. I think I want to bake a little this year. I kind of hate to bake, so this is a big deal to me. I'll be making homemade toffee, and maybe peppermint bark, but I don't know what else to do. I'm just looking for one or two other things to make tins for some people, but I can't decide what to make. I'm leaning toward maybe Italian Wedding Cookies, but I think my sister is making those, or something that tastes like a Pepperidge Farm Bordeaux cookie, but I can't find a recipe I trust to taste that good. I love nuts, caramel, butter, toffee, butter, and a touch of chocolate is ok, but I don't want it to be the main focus because it just isn't my thing, and I'll already have the toffee that has a chocolate layer. So....what's your favorite?
  4. I thought it was cute. I don't think about K-Mart any time of the year until I see these commercials. The "Ship My Pants" ones are my favorites. I can't see them enough.
  5. The last gift arrived today, and most of them are even wrapped! I even have all of the stocking stuffers. This is some sort of record for me. I also finished buying all of DD's birthday presents. Her birthday is this Friday. Also a record for me. The only thing I have left to do is finish wrapping, and add the fringe to my sisters' and my niece's afghans that I crocheted for them, which I also have already finished, other than the fringe. Oh, and mail my mom and dad's card, but they get cash, so nothing for me to buy.
  6. I once had a cat who did a few weird/adorable things. First, my ex and I used to collect Botero figurines. If you're not familiar, Botero is a Colombian artist famous for depicting people and things in "large, exaggerated volumes." In our case, the figurines were quite rotund women. This cat hated those figurines, and ended up killing all of them. He somehow got on our mantle and weaved his 17 pound body in and out of all of the candlestics and other things and knocked all of our Botero's directly off the mantle, shattering them into little pieces. And that was the end of that. He also thought I was pregnant with his kittens when I was expecting DD#2. He's sit on my lap and purr as loudly as he could, and I think she could feel the vibrations and would start rolling about, and pushing out my belling with her hands or feet, and he'd push them back in, she'd push out, he'd push back in...they'd play forever like that! When she was born she came home on a heart monitor, and he would perch himself on the side of her bassinet and then crib when she slept and just stare at her. If she moved strangely, or if the monitor beeped, he'd run and get me. I also have pictures of him sprawled out on the floor in front of the fireplace, sleeping, and my baby girl sleeping on him like a rug. It was the cutest thing ever. This same cat used to use the toilet, too. I didn't teach him....he just started doing it one day. One of my cats now can open doors. I'm talking about the kind with round handles. If the door opens inward and he wants in, there's no keeping him out unless you lock it.
  7. My old lady cat that just died used to do that! I'd wake up in the morning with a pile of dead socks outside my door, and I'd know it was going to be there because she announced it all night long. Or she'd just bring it to you and drop it at your feet. Loudly. Very, very loudly.
  8. I kept mine because I figured one of my daughters may want it one day. It isn't worth much, but I did wear it when I married their father. It just sits in my jewelry box. I barely think of it. Actually, I had two. The original and the one I upgraded two several years into the marriage. The original I still have. The upgrade "mysteriously" disappeared. I'm fairly certain it ended up in a pawn shop somewhere, courtesy of my ex. I really don't care.
  9. I'm trying to figure out anything I could possibly do in advance, but there really isn't much. I'm not actually sure how I'm going to time everything, because I only have one oven and it really does need to be fresh-ish to taste best, I think. I'm doing cornish hens and not turkey, so that'll save me quite a bit of oven time. We have tons that needs to go in the oven! Dressing Sweet potato gratin Macaroni and cheese Roasted cauliflower Triple corn spoon bread Rolls Ugh. I'll figure it out.
  10. I really enjoyed it, and so did my kids. At first I was aggravated that the split it into two movies, but now I'm glad. They can get a lot more detail doing it that way.
  11. I have a dog named Jax, a dog named Jillian, and a cat named Lincoln. My cat that just died was Lucy. My hamsters were Steve Puffball and Steve Puffballerina. Now that I think about it, every single one of my pets have always had people names, with the exception of the two cats that came to me already named.
  12. I agree with you. She's not everyone's cup of tea, for sure. The entire clan isn't. They're incredibly smart business people, though. They've made many millions through proper marketing. They have clothing lines and stores, Kim K. has an app that will sell $200 million by the end of this year, and they make incredible livings hosting parties and making appearances. I say good for them. Of course the photo has been photoshopped. Everyone's photos in magazines are photoshopped. Big deal. Her figure is her figure, though. She really does have a tiny waist and larger than average butt. I happen to think she's beautiful, and if I looked like that I'd be naked in the frozen food section of the grocery store, for crying out loud! I also think your comparison to Martha Stewart is dead on. I just happen to prefer Kim K. to Martha. That woman (Martha) is a horrible shrew, in my opinion. But, like I said, to each their own, right?
  13. The new movie comes out the day before my birthday. My teen has said she's buying me tickets for my birthday present. Seems like an odd response from your husband. Then again, I never ask my husband's opinions about the movies I plan to see with my children anyway. Not that you did either. It was just commentary.
  14. Yep. It's called Every Parent Ever. We meet at the bar.
  15. I said I don't have kids? Really? My kids will be really mad at me for that! I'll also have an extra "kid" here, as DD18's friend will be spending that week with us. Maybe I accidentally implied it when I said my sister and I are doing the holidays, and we're grown ups and we can decide, blah blah blah, with no mention of anyone else.
  16. In case anyone is interested, this is the sweet potato recipe I'll be making, and this is the triple corn spoon bread I mentioned earlier. Both are insanely good. Oh, and I use full fat ingredients and real butter (margarine? ew!) in the corn thingie.
  17. Mmmm.......some of these things are definitely getting made in my house this year. For sure. That cranberry salad someone posted earlier looks weird to me. The picture looks like ham salad! But it sounds amazing. That's going the list for sure!! And scalloped artichokes? Oh, man....makes my mouth water. What else? I want more. MORE! We need more! Gluttony for all!
  18. I adore that stuffing, but my sister, I just found out, doesn't like sausage in it. I never knew because she has lived across the country my entire adult life and we have never spent holidays together. I'm stunned by this development. I don't even know who she is anymore. Collards. We adore collards, but raisins and citrus? That sounds amazing, and I don't even like raisins. Oh, yeah....pie. I think you may be the one person who loves pie as much as I love pie.
  19. Nooo!!!!!! Not hominy! I love the beans, but hominy must not cross the threshold of my home, much like organ meats. :p
  20. I should have added that appetizers are fine, too. Anything other than a main dish works for us.
  21. Those green beans look really good! I don't do oysters, though, unless they're roasted. It's a texture thing.
  22. We do brussels all the time. I love them, but they're normal for us so I didn't want to do it. Then you said goat cheese.....yum....why have I never tried that before?
  23. Some of these are definitely being added to the list of possibilities. Some of ours: Dressing (non-cornbread) Sweet potatoes au gratin (recipe from Old Ebbitt Grill in Washington, DC) Mashed potatoes Triple corn spoon bread We're in desperate need of veggies.
  24. I made the most amazing cauliflower, bacon, and cheddar bisque the other day. It was amazing. Chicken and dumplings next, because my stepdaughter has requested it.
