Free downloadable Singapore Workbooks
*Jessica* replied to Kathleen in VA's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Are these workbooks, specifically the 2008 Pri 1 Mathematics SA2, what you get when you buy the Singapore Math workbooks? I ask because I have considered adding Singapore Math alongside the MEP we are already using. It would be great to be able to print out some pages of this workbook to try the program out before I go ahead and buy. But if these aren't the same thing then I won't bother. Thanks! -
Has Anyone Here Had Rectal Cancer?
*Jessica* replied to *Jessica*'s topic in General Education Discussion Board
Thank you so much! In the past I haven't worried about medical stuff too much, but in the last year I have dealt with her battle with colon cancer, my father's battle with liver cancer and his subsequent transplant, the death of my other SIL's mother from pancreatic cancer, the death of a friend of the family who was like an uncle to me from pancreatic cancer, my grandfather's heart surgery, and my FIL's declining kidney function due to diabetes complications. I'm starting to feel panicky every time I hear someone else is sick. It really helps to hear that someone you knew made it through this. -
My oldest brother's wife, Sue, was just diagnosed with rectal cancer. She successfully battled colon cancer last year, and now this. I would really love to hear from someone who has been through this, or knows details of someone else who has.

We had leftover rice from last night's dinner (salmon, rice, and salad) so I just made fried rice with loads of veggies and we had grapes with it. It was nice to have such a quick and easy meal. I feel like I cheated.

Yes, This Country of Ours is our spine for the grammar stage. For the logic stage I plan to use Joy Hakim's A History of US. The rhetoric stage is too far off for me to have a plan yet. Because This Country of Ours does not cover Native Americans as in-depth as I wanted, we used other resources before jumping into TCOO. Pronto Lessons Native American History Native Child Learn About Native Americans Plus picture books, and activities I found online. I don't have a book list I'm pulling things from, though I do pull out TWTM and check it for recommended books at times. I rely on good old Google searches to unearth gems, and read threads here to discover appropriate picture books that we might enjoy. I've never even heard of Artner's guide, but I thank you for mentioning it! I added it to my wish list. I have a blog where I'm trying to keep track of all of the resources we use. You're welcome to check it out, though it's still very rough around the edges. My Blog

We're doing both World History and American History side by side and it's working very nicely. I am using This Country of Ours by H.E. Marshall along with other resources for Grades 1-4. My current plan is: In 1st, 5th, and 9th grades we will be learning about: Native Americans Explorers and Pioneers Stories of Virginia Stories of New England In 2nd, 6th, and 10th grades we will be learning about: Stories of the Middle and Southern Colonies Stories of the French in America Stories of the Struggle for Liberty In 3rd, 7th, and 11th grades we will be learning about: Stories of the US Under the Constitution Gold Rush Civil War WWI In 4th, 8th, and 12th grades we will be learning about: WWI to Modern Times US Government

Do you keep or chuck greeting cards
*Jessica* replied to AuntPol's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I keep ones with special handwritten notes (which is a really small number, sadly) and recycle the rest. Really cool ones might get kept for craft projects. -

I think its is ridiculous that she is willing to put her own grandchild at risk! Let your husband pass on the news that the visit must be canceled. -

19 y/o niece is engaged?
*Jessica* replied to MommyRyan's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Have they set a wedding date? Marc and I met during my freshman year of college. I had been 18 for all of 2 months when we met. We started dating a month later and were engaged a month after that. But we were engaged for 3 years before we got married. We've been married for nine years. Perhaps they are planning a long engagement. -
Have you seen the new Playmobil Ancient Egypt interactive stuff? I can't link to individual items for some reason, only the main menu. The Nile Game is on the ship. The Magic Key video is in the pyramid. The Quiz is grave robbers (?) on the bottom right. There is an Activity Page near the camels in the upper right corner that seems to be a printable coloring page. And I may have missed some things. I just wanted to share. Enjoy!
