A friend had her kids (3rd, 5th) make a newsletter. The wrote a book review, joke of the day, sports report, trivia, weather forecast, poem, etc.
It was really well done. They used Word. They printed it and then gave them out to their friends in class. I use Excel to make my lesson plans.
My daughter (4th) was watching and started telling me how to use it. So, now I am going to have her help write her own weekly lesson plans using Excel.
I figure it is a good way to start.
