Shannon in TN replied to Shannon in TN's topic in General Education Discussion Board
So sorry, but I am not a crocs girl. Can't stand the things! Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions! I'll be shopping around later tonight :) -
how much would you spend on flip-flops?
Shannon in TN replied to Shannon in TN's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I have 3 pairs of Birks that I've had since college. Lately, though, they just aren't as comfortable - and yes, I've had at least one pair re-corked and re-soled. I'm one of those "hippy homeschoolers" :D -
Are you sure that it was Frontline and not the Hartz stuff you find in grocery stores? It's applied the same way. I worked at an animal hospital for years and we would see sick animals come in after using Hartz (or some other cheap knock-off from Frontline) but I don't recall there being any issues with the Frontline. I could be wrong, though - it was 2000-2004 that I worked there... My memory isn't what it used to be.

A special request from me

:iagree: and also come from a split home - I'm on the liberal side of moderate and dh is on the conservative side of moderate. It really does make for some interesting conversations. -

Kids. Chores. Organization. Etc.
Shannon in TN replied to Aubrey's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I have tried the chore chart thingy that Vicki Bentley does. A friend and I had gone to one of her workshops at the NC convention last year and loved the ideas she had. It didn't last long. Oh, I still have the chore chart on the fridge and I'll point it out to them once in a great while and I say, "Oh, when was the last time you guys did your chores?" when in reality, I was the one who did them last. I'm a "messy" and my kids are "messies" so it's hard. And I'm disorganized, which makes things even harder. I haven't heard of these "chore packs" though. What's that about? -
Could someone please design an app for the WTM forum? Please?!?

If you use TT, where does your child do the work?
Shannon in TN replied to Samiam's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
LOVE that idea even though I'm not using TT. I just like the clutter-free aspect of it. Could you use a small chalkboard? Although that would get dusty.... -

Comparing CLE and Horizons math
Shannon in TN replied to snipsnsnailsx5's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I have a Wiggly Willy son, too! He'll be starting K in the fall at a co-op and they're doing Horizons math. Anything I should look out for? I'm petrified about teaching him in the fall (hence the co-op) and any tips you can offer would be greatly appreciated. -
Comparing CLE and Horizons math
Shannon in TN replied to snipsnsnailsx5's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I'm switching my DD to Horizons for the fall. I loved, loved CLE, but she was getting bored with it and hated it and - I know this sounds funny - just wanted something more colorful. She's now excited about starting math in the fall, so yay! The thing I liked most about CLE is that it is a very independent style and works well with my Perfect Paula DD. The lessons are explained very well in the workbook so you don't really need the TM except for the answers (and you can purchase just the answer key) but I had borrowed a friend's TM so I didn't need to get the key. The lessons do seem long (4-5 pages, plus speed drills and flash card work) but she picked up on each topic quickly so we only pick and choose the speed drills (she needs more multiplication practice) and no flash cards, but there's review in each lesson so there's less to forget. Invisible Fence? Anybody have them?
Shannon in TN replied to Holly IN's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Just another thought. I worked at an animal hospital for years and we would have some clients with cats use softpaws. They even come in different colors, which can be fun! In theory, it should be something you can do yourself, but we did have clients who preferred the groomer or the tech to apply them instead. It's definitely an alternative to declawing and most likely easier and less expensive than the invisible fence. Here's the website: http://www.softpaws.com/ Shannon -
Nikon photographers - D90 or D7000 or neither?
Shannon in TN replied to Janna's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I can't really speak from personal experience *with* the actual D90. Briefly, I was looking several years ago for a DSLR and a dear friend had the Pentax K10. I couldn't afford that, was familiar with Pentax because I had one "back in the day" that I loved, and decided on the K100, which I still have (going on 3 years now). A couple of years ago, she upgraded hers to a D90 and LOVES it but now she's eyeballing the 7K. She's mentioned selling me her D90 because I've outgrown the K100, which I would buy from her in a heartbeat. She takes amazing pictures, the clarity even in low-light conditions is great and it's very user-friendly for the manual settings. She's what I could consider a professional hobbiest when it comes to photography but I think the thing that's holding her back from getting the 7K is the price tag. I don't know if that really helps you or not, though... -
I haven't gone through all 16 pages of posts, but I would love to host something here in Knoxville, TN. I don't have a big enough house, yet (we're putting our current one on the market very soon) but my church has a venue that I might be able to use. It would seat several hundred. Any one else in East TN, GA, VA, KY, NC willing to drive here??

If you have a blog...
Shannon in TN replied to Entropymama's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I use nicknames for all of us but there are a few other bloggers out there who know the "real me" from affiliate programs and just wanting to meet up with other bloggers I've connected with. But definitely no names or faces of my kids or dh on my blog. Any pics I use either won't be of their face (I'll focus on their hands or something) or from behind. I have a real cute pic that I used a while back of dd reading to ds both snuggled in a chair, but I shot it from behind so you can see the book they're reading over the backs of their heads. -

LOVED WWZ! Did you know they're making it into a movie? I *think* Brad Pitt will be starring, but I can't remember for sure.
