  1. The only kind I've had experience with is more like the first one you linked, but it was for much lower on my hips, like below the belly. It helped tremendously with hip pain. I found it to be a little uncomfortable when I sat, but on the whole it reduced more pain than it caused, by a long shot. Sorry I don't have more experience - I hope someone who does sees this and chimes in!
  2. I grew up in Texas and moved to the Midwest a few years ago. For the longest time I had no idea what a sump pump was for (It lives in the basement, and ... ???). Fortunately, we rented first and figured some things out. When we were ready to buy I had figured it out, and now we've got a finished walkout basement (with sump pump!) where we watch TV and send the kids to be crazy.
  3. 1. For the sliding doors, I've seen (but never done) a conversion to french doors - like this https://tatertotsandjello.com/how-to-replace-sliding-closet-doors-with-standard-doors-tutorial/. One thing to consider is that french doors will require more space inside the room to swing open and navigate around than sliding doors do, so make sure the room really has space for that. 2. In my kids' closets, we used the Rubbermaid Configurations system - http://www.rubbermaid.com/CategoryDisplay?storeId=30051&urlLangId=&beginIndex=0&urlRequestType=Base&categoryId=16034&top_category=&langId=-1&catalogId=30051. It's available at lots of stores and on Amazon. It's a standard closet system in that you install a horizontal top track, hang vertical standards from the top track, hook brackets into the vertical standards, and install closet rods and shelves on the brackets. It was easy to install and reasonably priced. I ended up buying 5 "Custom Closet Kits" and reconfiguring them for 3 closets to get a lot of shelves (we needed shelves more than rods), and I had a lot of rods leftover. That was 2 years ago, and they've held up fine and worked really well for us. More recently, DH and I worked on our closet and we went with The Container Store's Elfa system - https://www.containerstore.com/elfa/index.htm. It's also a standard closet system, like the Rubbermaid one, but it has some higher-end finishes and more custom components (valet rod, pants glider, nicer drawers, etc.). It's more expensive than the Rubbermaid system, but it was just as easy to install. It's only been a few weeks, and so far the function has been great. If you go with a standard closet system and if one of the walls that it's going on is sloped (like the top edge of the wall is slanted, not the ceiling in front of the wall is slanted), you may want to look at having 2 top tracks on that wall to make the most of the space. Whatever you go with, before you install shelves/rods, it makes sense to really think through what you're going to keep in there and how much space it requires (i.e. How long is your longest hanging item? How much width do all of your long hanging items take up? How much width do all of you standard length hanging items take up? How tall are the containers that you want to keep on the shelves? etc.) edited to add: In my kids' closets, with the Rubbermaid system, they have sliding doors on their closets, and while it's annoying to move the doors to get to all the parts of the closet, the shelving system is still effective and works well.
  4. Hmm - what about, in addition to other playlists, one for All Music and one for All Audiobooks? Also, I'm not sure where you normally use iTunes (computer, phone, or tablet), but on the computer app, you can change the view of a playlist [top menu > View > View As > (options)], and it only applies to that playlist and it remembers what you've chosen when you quit the app. So having an All Music playlist (viewed as albums) and an All Audiobooks playlist (viewed as albums) may help visually separate the two distinct categories. (Can you tell I'm in problem-solving mode?)
  5. Could each thing just be their own playlist? For example (all playlists, no folders): German - Book A German - Book B History - SOTW 1 History - SOTW 2 History - other So instead of folders to keep like things together, having the same word at the beginning would keep them together since iTunes alphabetizes them.
  6. I didn't eat any *cue tiny violin* It's this recipe https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/baked-sweet-potato-fries-recipe-2013040 - which is delicious, without the side of acrid smoke And yes, it's irritating. I came here to vent and try to inject some humor (passive aggression?)
  7. ... you should just go buy the *!$&* french fries. But if you're insistent on making them at home ... you should use a pan with sides. And if you fail to do that ... you should expect to spill oil and potatoes on the bottom of the oven. When that happens and you say that you'll clean the oven ... you should plan to do so within a day or two. And if you fail to do that ... you should not be frustrated when someone else takes care of the unpleasant task that you said you would do a WEEK ago. Signed: from the depths of the oven
  8. These are technically dresses, but especially if it's not too large, could be more like a tunic https://www.hannaandersson.com/girls-clothing-dresses-short-sleeve/53230-NV2.html
  9. Needing an extra fridge around here. I'm doing a lot of cheater foods to make things easy and relaxing for me, while still being delicious.
  10. Thank you! I had such a specific idea about what I wanted, and I couldn't find it anywhere. So I commissioned our knitted stockings from my mom, and got exactly what I was looking for!
  11. On Christmas Eve I'm making a sausage, apple, and gouda savory pie for lunch. Then we'll eat at Cheesecake Factory for dinner. Christmas morning, we'll cook bacon and eggs and scones (already mixed, frozen, and ready to bake). Then for lunch we're having BBQ from a famous local place (DH is picking up on Christmas Eve) and some easy sides. Dinner will be leftovers. I also have some ginger and peppermint cookies (2 separate kinds, not ginger and peppermint together) in the freezer, ready to be baked. I'm looking forward to it being delicious and easy.
  12. Late to the party. Ornaments are the only thing I collect, and our main tree is our family tree. Also, we have nowhere to hang stockings, so wrapped boxes to the rescue! We got a new artificial tree this year, and since we have space in this house, we decided to let the kids have the old one upstairs in their space.
  13. I imagine the targeted advertising after that was ... fun.
  14. My girls got a rock tumbler at our family Thanksgiving/Christmas a few weeks ago, and it came with a few rocks to start out with, but not quite enough. So I ordered more rocks from a website, which occurred to me as an odd thing to 1) buy, and 2) buy online. And that got me thinking about the years that my dad bought a Christmas tree online. It was 15 to 20 years ago, like when Amazon only sold books and music. There was a tree farm in Minnesota or somewhere that had pictures of every tree while it was still in the ground. And you'd choose the tree you wanted and pay for it. Then they'd chop the tree down, shove it in a box, and ship it you. The tree arrived within 48 hours of being cut down. It was pretty novel/amazing/weird. And now I'm curious to hear about other odd things people have ordered online.
  15. Where do you hide the cookies In my mouth!
  16. If he's watching things accessed through WiFi (like Roku, Apple TV, Firestick, smart TV, etc.), you should be able to setup your WiFi to only connect to the TV at specific times or when you authorize it from your WiFi software/app. No ideas on what to do for cable or antenna connections.
  17. If the holes in the frame are too large for the new screws to fit securely, I got a good tip from a carpenter who replaced a door for us. He put a little wood glue in the hole, then crammed the tips of a few toothpicks in there and just broke them off as flush to the frame as possible. Like this:
  18. Here's a tutorial that I think a 10 year old could help with, if you're comfortable with a drill. It's also a more modern look, so I'm not sure if that fits with what you want. https://abeautifulmess.com/2016/03/floating-acrylic-frame-diy.html
  19. One of the funniest white elephant gifts I've ever seen was a (new) cushioned toilet seat, along with a note hoping the recipient had a "comfortable Christmas" or something along those lines. Obviously how well this would go over depends on your humor and that of the group at the party.
  20. I've found that light exfoliation right before applying lip balm helps whatever I use last longer. I like to either gently brush my lips with a soft toothbrush and water or gently rub them with a slightly damp towel, then put balm on right away.
  21. This is a small one, but I'm not sure where else to brag this, and that's the point of this thread, right? I taught DD8 long division this week. She's in SM 3A, and we tried the long division lesson a couple of times, without success (the first time I haven't been fully satisfied with Singapore's presentation of material). She seemed to have all of the necessary skills for it though, and she wanted to learn it. So I did a bit of research on different ways to talk about and present it, planning on spending a couple of weeks on it. But within 3 days she was mostly ready to do it all on her own. So this is a bit of a brag for both of us 🙂
