  1. No. Remember divorce has only been this prevalent for a very short time. A person trying to get remarried in a church might have to answer a few questions though
  2. Paul also added that if an unbelieving spouse left a believing spouse then the believing spouse could remarry. But a believing spouse should not leave the unbelieving spouse.
  3. I have never heard of this outside of Judaism or the catholic annulment. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist but I am a senior at a Bible college who loves to study religions and the differences in denominations so if it does exist then I would love to hear about it :001_smile:
  4. Anyone? Can anyone give me advice on some fairly inexpensive curriculum choices for a 6th grader?
  5. Hey my super helpful favorite homeschool and afterschool mommies and daddies! I just got this message on facebook "I have some questions maybe you could help me with. I see that you home school your children. As a single parent, is it financially and time-wise possible for me to home school my 12 yr old son? He is in the 6th grade in public school. I am sooo sick and tired of dealing with inadequate teaching. Its not just in Jasper. I have moved him to 2 different schools and it is the same everywhere. He is in advanced and accelerated classes and I just do not feel he is getting the best. Please, any suggestions about homeschooling?" So I was hoping the collective hive could help my friend out. I don't have a sixth grader and I probably spend more than I should on curriculum. I was thinking online classes could help her with time but switched on schoolhouse is all I know (Thank you Duggars ;p) and that is pretty expensive.

  7. I don't believe it actually covers letter formation at all. There is no instruction on how to make letters and it lacks repetition. I personally would highly recommend a seperate handwriting program if your child has never been through one. There is nothing harder that correcting a child who learns to make a letter incorrectly by either starting from the bottom or writing it backwards.
  8. It still sounds like a wonderful gift and it is personalized so I doubt you can return it. Do people still record births and deaths in their bibles anymore? I wonder if you can get the attendants to maybe write a note in the Bible for the couple.
  9. HA I totally got this question today from my 8yr old son. I listed many of the reasons mentioned but next time I am totally going with secret language
  10. Ha! This is such an awesome story! Thank you for allowing us to live through it vicariously :tongue_smilie:I hope each of us gets that moment of sweet vindication
  11. Here is mine http://pinterest.com/jamiemc/ I need to organize my homeschool and kids boards into subjects. I have started one on anatomy and middle ages. Have to give a shout out to my favorite homeschooling pinner http://pinterest.com/samuserensemble/ She is a homeschool pinner goddess!! I was kinda hoping she was on this board :tongue_smilie:
  12. All the Christians I know believe that adultery is a sin (which that would be classified as). But different Christians at different times, as imperfect sinners, justify many different sins like homosexuality, greed and gluttony. If something feels good, we want to believe that it IS good. That doesn't make it not a sin.
  13. Oh also we crate trained this dog. He sleeps in a crate in our room at night which I love. It keeps the messes to a minimum but crates are expensive. And I wholeheartedly agree with the previous poster as an owner of a dog, two cats, a conure and lots of beautiful fish that all ALL all animals are much more expensive than you think they will be.
  14. when you go on vacation you will have to board them or have someone take care of them. Does your city have animal registration laws? I have had dogs chew baseboards and door frames. My friend has a dog that has warped her base boards urinating on them. Look into the breed you want and check for genetic problems. Some dogs are known for hip problems and I know there was something about those dogs with the smushed faces. I know that when we were picking a dog I wanted something small enough to be a cute little lap dog but big enough to stand my kids "love" My husband wouldn't let me get a chihuahua because he didn't want a little yapper under his feet getting stepped on all the time. We went with a schnauzer and he is the greatest dog ever. My girls are still holding out for a chihuahua one day though. Oh and I would highly recommend you invest in a good carpet steam cleaner. It has been the best investment ever for accidents.
  15. I have the sweetest green cheeked conure named Coco. I spent probably $250 on her plus at least $100 on the cage and then had to buy toys and treats. I also bought a playstand for when she is out of the cage. Then I had to get rid of all my teflon pots and pans and switched all my cleaning supplies because I read that fumes could kill her and I just shelled out a lot of money and wasn't going to lose it making dinner. She is super sweet and loving but probably takes more work than any of my other animals (fish, dog and two cats) I have learned that she loves fresh fruit but she splatters it all over my walls and carpet and she takes a bath everyday and soaks whatever is next to the cage. All that to say I love having birds and want more, just make sure you research and are willing to put in the work. Know what you want. Do you want a companion or decorations. I had parakeets for less than 24 hours. I thought they were annoying and I wanted a bird I could train and play with. Hope that helps :)
  16. Thanks guys, you have all been such a big help. I am going to pursue the vision suggestions and have him tested for dyslexia. I have backed away from the ledge and I am a bit calmer now :tongue_smilie:
  17. I just read the symptoms of dyslexia and so many fit him to a T. I am literally in tears. Sorry guys, I just want an answer for my sweet boy. I guess I know what to do. I know the director of special services in our ISD personally so I guess I will talk to her on Sunday at church. I don't know if they answer email during the summer. I assumed it was just ADD during kinder and 1st but this is not just focus problems.
  18. My son is entering 3rd grade and I think at this point to say he is a struggling reader is an understatement. We do all about spelling and he catches on to the spelling rules very quickly and doesn't seem to have any problems spelling words. When it comes time to write sentences I usually have to do a lot of repeating but again, he doesn't need help spelling the words. Having him read however is like visiting the 9th circle of the bad place. He reads letter by letter often looking around and getting lost and usually breaks down in tears about five minutes in. Today I tried a new approach. He was armed with chewing gum to help his focus and his handy dandy highligher book mark strip thingies and my goal was to have him read one line without having to sound out a word. The line was "I am Tod and I got Rob the Robot from" He must have read it 30 times and my goal was never met. He continued to have to sound out ever word, even am and he would pause between the "and" and the "I." So I tried a new tatic. I thought maybe we can memorize the names Tod and Rob (because he would get the B and D wrong nearly every time) and then when he came to those words he would have no problem saying them. I asked him a billion times who wrote the letter and what was the robots name and he reapeated the answers over and over but when it was time to read the sentence he still sounded them out. You guys, he does really great in math and science and he loves history and geography but I am really starting to worry about his reading level. I just made an appointment to get his eyes checked but when I asked him if the words were fuzzy or if the letters on the page move he told me that his brain is just telling him to take a break a lot. I don't know what to do next. Do I get him tested for something? Do I just keep working with him? His 1st grade sister is reading really well and seeing the difference worries me.

  20. If you are looking to read the Bible to learn the stories and teachings then the Message is fine. It is a paraphrase, easy to understand and enjoyable. I would not ever attempt to use the Message as a basis for a serious theological study on a particular verse or topic however. I recommend the ESV for a study Bible just because that is my current favorite but it does not have the simplest language. Also just a tip for comprehension, I recommend reading the letters in one sitting just like you are sitting down to read a letter from a friend. If you get a letter in the mail you don't read a couple of lines a day. When you wake up in the morning, start your day with a psalm and a prayer :001_smile:
  21. So to recap...........temperature matters and don't be afraid to experiment. Got it :D
  22. My 8 year old son hates to read. We are on all about spelling level 2 and I have the books that go with it. He does amazing with the spelling and writing the sentences but when we pick up any book to read he shuts down. Seriously I can get him to read one word at a time but he immediately forgets that word and if I ask him to read the sentence again he has to sound out nearly every word all over again. I will say his reading has improved greatly but he is nearing the end of second grade and is still essentially in Bob type books. Should I be pushing him harder? Should I make him read more pages a day or maybe read several times a day? I have tried to be patient thinking one day reading will just click for him and he will want to do it but what if that day never comes?
