  3. Maybe they're Christmas colored flip-flops.
  4. I had to pay room & board as soon as I turned 18. I think it was around $75. I went to CC and worked part time.
  5. I stumbled on Penny and Inspector Gamache last month and really liked them. I'm adding Still Life to my list. :) Sweet!!!
  6. The same thing happened to me with my RR order. It took them over a week to actually ship the order. I was especially irritated because their site stated, "Most orders shipping within 1 business day." I only ordered 3 things so I thought it was ridiculous and would have ordered from someone else if I had anticipated the delay. I know it was "my fault" since I ordered late this year but I agree with you. I think waiting a week or longer for an item to ship is simply too long unless it's something purchased off ebay. I went ahead and complained to RR because their site had said shipping in 1 business day, but the gal I chatted with was patronizing so that added more frustration. It's changed my opinion of RR and I'll think twice about ordering from them again. If it will make you feel better to complain about the slow shipping, I'd go ahead and do it. You can use their response as a determination on whether or not you want to continue to do business with them.
  7. Welcome back! Hope you love it here in WA! :)
  8. I finished World War Z by Max Brooks last night. We saw the movie in early July and I had been disappointed. I later heard that the book was a lot better so I gave it a try. I do agree that it was a lot better than the movie. There are so many thoughts going on in the book that were impossible to portray on the big screen. The story is told in a series of interviews with various survivors. I connected with some of the interviews more than others, but overall everything felt a bit detached to me. I had also expected it be more of a heart pounding thriller. However, once I adjusted to the style of the story I began to appreciate the author's creativity and would give it 3.5 stars. This week I had 2 books come in from the library. First is N0S4A2 by Joe Hill. This seems to be the heart pounding thriller that I expected from WWZ but Robin mentioning kids as demons in the last thread has me a bit freaked out, so I'm not sure it's the book for me! The other choice is These is My Words by Nancy Turner. That one was recommended on my Goodreads list because I enjoyed The Help and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society so quite a different genre from demons and Zombies :tongue_smilie: . I'm not sure which one I'll go with yet.
  9. Boy Jean, I'm glad you could make sense of my poorly worded reply earlier!!! My dh is home on vacation and we were talking in the midst of my typing. Obviously I need to proofread better!! Anyway, it sounds like you have a good plan in place with your dh. Hope it all works out smoothly. :)
  10. Has she already picked up her meat? If she hasn't picked hers up by the time you do, it makes sense that she should come to you do the exchange. If she has, then you could offer to drop by when you pick yours up but if that doesn't work she'll need to come to you.
  11. I finished a light, quirky book, Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple. It was a perfect follow up to Calvino's If on a Winter's Night. I didn't have to think about the sentences at all...just read, read, read! The story is primarily told through a series of e-mails. I enjoyed reading her descriptions of Seattle and Seattlites since I've lived in Washington all my life. The characters are over the top which had me smiling through much of the book. But it's definitely a quirky book and not for everyone. I also finished listening to Who Do You Think You Are by Mark Driscoll, an in-depth look at the book of Ephesians. J. Maarten Troost showed up one of my e-mail lists. Looks like he writes primarily non-fiction but that still counts right? :) Yowza!!!!
  12. So funny...I mentioned this thread to my sister yesterday and she suggested Jo Nesbo! I'd have to agree with you two. :)
  13. This is exactly why I bought Fiestaware rather than a knockoff.
  14. That is weird! I think I would call them anyway and talk to them about it, especially since your kitty had some issues.
  15. Thanks for the info. I use one of the formulas in the recall but fortunately the date doesn't match those with the problems.
  16. I have 10 place settings in a variety of colors. I LOVE them!!! I also have a serving bowl and salt & pepper shakers.
