  1. I think it was last year or so, there was quite a lengthy thread about a family with several kids living in squalor. They all slept on a raised platform in a shack with no electricity or running water. There were a lot of goats. They popped into my head the other day and I was wondering if anyone knew how they were doing? I tried a search but I can't remember the name of the thread or the family. I hope those kids are doing alright.
  2. You've been on my mind the last several days, too. I hope you are having some peace.
  3. If I were the friend with the points, I'd say we both owe $50.
  4. It means my youngest dd will get to do scouting in a few years when she's old enough. We would never have put her in GS for several reasons. But now that she can be in cub scouts with her older brothers it's now an option.
  5. If you usually don't wear make-uo, don't try it for an interview. If you're not used to applying it and mess up, I think that looks worse than going natural. I'm so easily distracted by wacky make-up. It's all I can see.
  6. I wouldn't call them ugly. They're unique and eye catching. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but I'd wear them.
  7. I voted Blueberry, but my absolute favorite is F.R.O.G. jam. Figs, raspberries, orange and ginger. Sweet and tangy and smooth! Delicious!
  8. The one that makes me roll my eyes is the FB post about a "sign seen at a veterinarians office telling you to not let your pet outside because they could stare at the sun and go blind. Um. No. I think animals are smart enough not to stare at the sun. It's just us humans who need common sense warnings.
  9. My Dad is really into genealogy. We have an ancestor who died in the Andersonville prison camp just days before the Civil War was over. So he's really into the history of it. As a child I visited Gettysburg and went to see a few reenactments. In High School I had a history teacher who was very interested in it. We parked there for several weeks. It got annoying after a while, I just wanted to move on. But now that I teach my kids, I can see that he wanted to share his passion with his students. I live in Mid-Michigan and it's not entirely uncommon to see the Confederate flag displayed here or there on pick-up trucks, on wife-beater tee shirts, merchandise at county fairs or even on the occasional house. It's not the norm and there's always a "type" of person involved. But I probably see one or two a week.
  10. The slang word "Fam." I assume it's the new "Bro," which was also annoying. But Fam makes me want to shriek.
  11. Someone on FB posted a story about songs that help people relax. There was one called "Weightless." If I put that song on it knocks me right out. It's an 8 minute song, I don't think I've ever heard the end. If you have Spotify there are tons of Ambient music playlists of songs to zone put to.
  12. This is a definite case of "Take this job and shove it."
  13. We have a dining table with four matching chairs and then two rickety mismatched chairs we use because we need them. Once we can afford it we're going to get two more, but I"m starting to consider a bench for my two wiggly boys to share.
  14. Congratulations! I hope you and your beautiful family had a blessed day!
  15. What a cutie!! It's kind of a shame it's fading, how adorable would it be to know Forest the Big Green Dog.
  16. My 8 year old would think it was the coolest thing in the world. But I wouldn't let him participate until 12 or so. At this age he'd probably sit up and start asking all sorts of questions or simply start giggling out of little boy joy.
  17. The asthma diagnosis and overweight bit wouldn't be a problem for me. But I'm easily irritated by repetitive noises and if I were early in a dating relationship with someone who coughed constantly, that would be a deal breaker. I just couldn't handle that. Now, if someone I loved developed a cough, the strength of our existing relationship would be enough to make me find ways to deal with it. But if we weren't emotionally invested I probably wouldn't voluntarily bring that stress into my life. I'm sorry, that's harsh. But it's true.
  18. I didn't get into the #12 episodes at all. I think Doctor Who peaked with Tennant, coasted with Smith and just tanked with Capaldi. I'll probably give it a few episodes, but I disliked that actress on Broadchurch. So unless she knocks it out of the park, I can't see giving it much of my time.
  19. I hate looking at FB on my phone because my big fat fingers have minds of their own. I was reading an article about a missing teen and hit the laughing smiley. Complete and utter panic for about 60 seconds.
  20. This exactly!! I don't know why it falls on the OP to be the bad guy cutting off the relationship. It's her home and her rules. If the visitor can't stand to follow the rules then it's the visitor who is deciding to cut off the relationship, not OP.
  21. I once got some serious stink eye from a woman when I threw an apple core into the woods. You'd have thought I'd kicked a chipmunk.
  22. If she were in the Bridal party then a new dress would be called for. But it's Grandma. Grandmas can wear whatever they want.
