  1. finish it over 6th grade.. move on to WWE level 4 for 7th grade and do WWS level 1 for 8th grade.. I know we started writing a bit later than I did with my oldest.. and he's doing fine with it.. but does he NEED to do WWE level 4? It *looks* like a lot of the same things.. Can I skip it? Would he miss anything important? I do admit that WWS looks (to me right now) like it would be hard for him.. but maybe it wouldn't be by 7th grade. I don't want to leave out anything he needs but it looks like tons of repetition.. thoughts? oh I know I look like a newbie here but I used to frequent this board a lot with my (now) senior
  2. can someone link me to the schedule that lines up apologia & teaching co. chemistry? I seem to have lost it.. thanks so much
  3. I have to say I agree :) There were times when I wondered during those miquon years just how he was doing.. but we moved into Singapore and he did great.. He's finishing sophomore year this year..where did the years go.. With my second I used a combo of Singapore and Miquon.. I won't do that with my 3rd or 4th. It's a nice idea in theory but I'm too busy to mess around with 2 curriculums.. it's been hard to stay organized with it.. He'll finish up miquon and use Singapore 4 next year but I'll be glad when he's done with 2 programs.. It was too hard with 2 smaller children.. Glad to hear you're loving it! **edited to add that we'll use just Miquon with the other 2 for the first few years and then move into Singapore like I did with my oldest
  4. it's a little cheaper there.. I had already emailed Ray so we'll see which way is the best.. I'm not ordering til I search one more time.. ugh..makes me grumpy LOL to spend $ on something I know I have... I keep thinking that I *have* to come across it somewhere.. thanks for your help:)
  5. I know this is a long shot.. but I can't seem to find our cd that goes with french 1 book anywhere.. It looks like Horrible books doesn't sell the french and if I order from Galore Park I'm looking at $44 for the one cd.. yikes..does anyone have one that I could buy or borrow? I know I haven't been here in a while but I used to come here all the time. Found out about SYRWTLF from the ladies here... any help? I checked ebay too but not having much luck tia Tina Duke
  6. I"m thinking of biting the bullet and buying IEW for my ds for next year 9th grade and, of course, using it all through high school. He's done some writing programs...here and there.. most recently (spread out of 7th and 8th grade) Jump In.. he does ok with writing programs but does pretty much just what *has* to be done.. kwim? However he loves to write his own stories on things that interest him.. mostly novels about superheros etc.. and his writing in these is fantastic!! does IEW use actual lesson plans or just teach you *how* to write and then have them pull it into whatever they want?.. It's a big chunk of change but if I pay $239 but it's for 4 years it wouldn't be so bad...What do you all think? I want him to be well prepared to do papers etc as well...I'm going to post this on the K-8 board as well....Are there any other programs for high school that you think are great? opened to suggestions.. thanks so much!

  8. yea, this is what I'm wondering.. I hate to not give him any credit for it if he does it daily in 9th and 10th grade...
  9. the reason he's *behind* where I'd like him to be is because we started late (7th grade) *and* because we didn't spend enough time on it in 7th....This year my goal is to focus on it more and get it done by the end of 8th (this year).... we really like it and I have no greek experience so I find it plenty challenging.. I really would like to do all three levels.. and actually already purchased level 2.. I really want him to *know* it and not just check it off to say we did it kwim? We are also doing french and will continue with it all 4 years of high school. so.. I was thinking of continuing with levels 2 and 3 even if that meant taking til the end of 10th grade.... then he'd still get 2 full years of higher greek (not sure what we'd use, opinions accepted ;-) So.. he'd still have 4 years of french on his transcript. I hate to not give him any credit for the greek ... It is work and not easy imo.... Thanks so much!
  10. with my ds next year (he's been using level 1 in 7th and 8th.. maybe we can at least start level 2 this year)... would you feel comfortable giving a credit for it in high school? maybe a half credit? or pull something else into level 2 so it's worthy of a whole credit (not sure if this could be done or what I'd pull into it) .. thanks for any help
  11. ds for a couple more years and am thinking about selling them and buying again later. Can anyone confirm whether or not they've all been revised? thanks!
  12. for my oldest (who is now going into 8th) we did KONOS we did a weekly coop with lots of fun hands on things(dropped this after K or 1st and did SOTW, continued with coop though italic handwriting no phonics.. just practice reading.. he was fluent by first grade.. in K we did Playntalk and games etc Miquon math can't remember when we started R&S English (think it was 2nd grade) LOts of reading library visits cooking together can't remember what else..that was a while ago.. For next ds (will do 1st in the Fall this year) *combo of Biblioplan (year 3 of the rotation) and a free online Am History plan *FLL *Miquon/Singapore combo *my own science plan.. trees/snow/weather/astronomy/gardening again in the spring.... as well as any other books we decide to read...we do lots of nature stuff (love Thornton Burgess books) *italic handwriting *maybe some copywork *story bible/character books *crafts to go with history and/or science *library visits *cooking *nature walks think that's all.. don't have my plan in front of me... but I think I got it all ***edited to add that I did some FIAR with my first.....tried with my second.. but it didn't go as smoothly.. I may do a little here and there.. and also with my second we are using ETC.. love it*************
  13. or just as an ebook.. I love Biblioplan as well.. it's been a great fit for our family!
  14. yep, I use my Biblioplan for a schedule (and of course tweak it if need be) and I use TQ for the commentary.. it's working great.. I sat down and just penciled in TQ pgs on my Biblioplan schedule ahead of time..
  15. I use Biblioplan and Truthquest....I utilize my own town library.. but I also pay to use another one about 20 minutes away in another town... It's the best $40 a year that I spend.. just something you might want to check out
  16. no, I don't know anyone who has it.. wish I did.. what are the SWI videos?
  17. I own volumes 1,2 and 3 and the activity guides...I think I understand the books to be revised (I have the original ones) but are the volumes also? Also.. I was thinking of buying SOTW act guide from someone used... I was going to use it with my 1st grader...(even though I know it's supposed to be for older).... I"m using Biblioplan with my oldest.. pulling my middler in...My (in the fall) 1st grader will finish the last two years of the rotation lightly, mostly focusing on Am History along with my older son... My 1st grader will actually start the rotation in 3rd grade... Would it be worth buying the SOTW 4act guide and using it in 6th grade.. or is there a plan to revise it?
  18. best writing program...but the cost has always been a factor in my decision... However if it really is the best I'm thinking maybe I should bite the bullet. ds will be going into 8th grade in the fall... he's done some writing over the years.. but not as much as I wish. Right now he's doing Jump In (started it in 7th, planned on finishing it in 8th)...He's doing ok with it but I'm wondering if I shouldn't do something *stronger*... that builds right through high school .. I hear so much about how homeschoolers are weak in writing.. I"d like to avoid that.. Would this program contain everything he'd need? does it include grammar? should I start it in 8th grade or have him start in 9th? would love to hear from those of you who've had experience with it.. thanks so much!
  19. this is very good advice.... I agree.. it isn't about academics.. it's about discipline. I'm not a big fan of doing a rigorous *school* program with a just turned 5yo boy. With my oldest ds (who is now 12) we did lots of fun hands-on type stuff...we *did* do academics (math.. miquon with rods, playntalk phonics and tons of reading), library visits, cooking together, nature walks, playing games (it's amazing what you can learn having fun), Now with my 6yo ds (I forgot and called him a 5yo earlier.. he just had a birthday .. anyway.. it's harder to make time to do as much of this as I"m working with my older ds and I have a 2yo girl but.. I *do* make time for some of this.. I want him to love learning.. that said we keep the lessons short and I follow his lead.. I think the key is to hook them in and let them have fun with it and follow their lead when they start to squirm. That said I do think it's important that children are obedient and not disruptive to the other family members. Follow your heart and you can't go wrong. This is such a fun age.. try not to stress about academics too much and have fun together. Blessings to you!

  21. I would make sure he has time with you.. doing school and otherwise.. but when it's time for you to be with the others you need to lay down the law...It sounds like he wants attention.. I would build him up when he is behaving...really encourage him but also let him know you mean what you say.. I'd be consistent.. both with his time and with your rules with him. Is there a special toy or craft (something simple that he can do independently), or a special show that he can watch while you're with the others. Sounds like you need some balance between not expecting too much from a lively 5yo boy and always expecting good behavioir.. I'ts a tough balance I know. My 5yo does a lot better when I make sure I'm spending time with him . HTH.. **edited to clarify: is there something *special* that he can do during that time you need to work with the others.. something he can do only during that time..to make it extra special and something he looks forward to
  22. I"m using french prep 1 as well... we just started two days ago.. he's done french since early elementary... using Learnables and this year he'd used Rosetta Stone free online through the library. I've heard they are doing away with this which is why I purchased SYWTL.. I will have him use RS too as long as the library has it. I don't speak french at all which is why, I'm sure, he's doing ok but not as well as he should be after all these years. I should probably start with the beginner one by him then? if I did this would it benefit him to do as well?
  23. we just started the french and it seems really good but how do you all actually implement the lessons.. do you have them notebook the voacab words? what does your lesson actually look like?
