  1. Nevermind. Someone helped me out already. Thanks!
  2. I just received a used copy of this book and one of the pages has a hole making part of it unreadable. I was hoping someone could let me know what the missing part says. Please pm me and I'll let you know what part I need. Thanks!!
  3. Maybe this from Simply Charlotte Mason?
  4. How about this? http://simplycharlottemason.com/books/spelling-wisdom/
  5. I did R&S 6 this past year with my son. We started out reading and doing the exercises together. But then I just let him start reading on his own and looking over the questions himself. I would ask him if he understood everything - if he was confused about something we would go over it together. Every now and then I would quiz him with some of the questions. It worked out for us, so I would say give it a shot and see how your son does.
  6.:lol: I feel the same way!!! Every *used* book I have bought so far has been in such great condition! I have it only for about a week or so and the pages start to curl and such. It has been making me wonder what in the world do I do to make books look so used, and what do others do to keep them looking so new. weird.
  7. I'm a little confused....maybe I missed something you wrote. What is wrong with her reading slowly? Did she read fine before and then all of a sudden start reading slowly? Or has she always been slow and careful at reading? And what is really wrong with it anyway? Isn't it better for her to really pay attention to what she is reading and to savor the story than to rush through it and just get it done so that she can get to the next one?
  8. I can't say for sure as we haven't done 1st grade yet, but what I would do is look at the book lists for different programs such as FIAR, sonlight, or ambleside online to see what books they recommend. :001_smile:
  9. Hey there! We just started homeschooling the middle of this past year and we chose R&S for English with my 6th grade son. We had absolutely no trouble at all jumping into for the first time. It explains everything very well and includes lots of review. We use the 6th grade book and it has been fine for him. I have heard others say to use a grade below level though. R&S does include writing assignments, but we don't do all of them. If I remember correctly TWTM states that the writing in this book is enough and there is no need for a separate writing curriculum.
  10. I totally agree that people should not be listing their items at a near new price if the condition if is that bad. I was just talking about items that are close to new looking, even if they have been *used.* For instance, I just received a couple books this week that are immaculate and could have definitely been listed at a higher price. I don't care that they have been used. I don't think people should have to list their items at 1/2 off just because they have been used, even if they are in near perfect condition. KWIM? I really think people should just price their items according to condition. And I see nothing wrong with pricing it to a near new price as long as the condition is good.
  11. Ok, here's what I don't get.... does it really matter what the book looks like? I mean as long as all the pages are there and not torn or written in completely- who cares if some pages are bent/creased/smudged a little or just looks like it has been used by a few kids? The INFORMATION in the book is the same, regardless of the condition. It's not like there is any less info if the book is used. Of course if something is in pretty bad condition, then no, it shouldn't be listed close to retail price. But if there isn't much wrong with it other than the fact it was read by a child/parent, why not?
  12. Please explain - what is this resale policy? I have heard nothing about this before.
  13. Thanks for all the replies so far! You have been very helpful and I would love to hear more! So for those of you who have used this you think I should go with the 4th-6th grade level for my 7th grader? I'm glad that possibility was brought up because I hadn't even thought of that. I will look into that program.
  14. Tell me about your experiences/opinions with Winterpromise. What do you like? Dislike? Do your kids enjoy it? About how much time does it take each day? I see some people complain about reading from several different books at once, does that bother you? Do you use all the books they suggest? I'm thinking of using Quest for the Ancient World with my 7th grade ds next year (so I was looking at the junior high level), but I'd love to hear more thoughts about it. Even if you have used a different theme - talk to me! :)
