  1. If you're on Facebook, the Catholic Homeschool Mom group has several reviews, https://www.facebook.com/groups/24164460379/
  2. That may be the difference in our experience. My daughter is very self directed. Now her brother right behind her (15-years old) is a different story. I have him doing math with Teaching Textbooks and my adult daughter tutoring him (she has a BS in mathematics). He does take writing and history online through HSC, but I make sure to follow up with him and keep an eye on his homework assignments.
  3. I don't have personal experience with the Foerster Algebra course, but my 17-year-old daughter is taking Geometry this year with Mrs. Hoeft. It's one of her favorite classes and she loves Mrs. Hoeft. Our experience has been that Mrs. Hoeft makes herself available outside of class when asked, either by phone or Skype. When my daughter mentioned in the class chat that she was struggling last October, Mrs. Hoeft reached out to me. Up until this year, my daughter took math through our local co-op or on our own. It's a subject she's really struggled with up until now. So, I'm super happy to report that she just got a 96 on her last test.
  4. Another idea for high school is Coursera, which is free. I'm using them for an animal biology course for my budding veterinarian. Someone mentioned Medical Technology and they have that too ... https://www.coursera.org/courses?languages=en&query=medical+technology They do charge if you want a transcript, but we just did the free option.
  5. Thank you for sharing Homeschool Connections as an option for families. We are praying for all those affected by the closing of Landry Academy. Homeschool Connections typically closes registration for live courses one week before the first day of class. In order to help Landry families, we are will keep registration open until four days before a course starts. Note that start dates vary. You are welcomed to use a $20-off coupon - early20 - if you choose to sign up for a live course. My guess is that the recorded classes (through our Unlimited Access program) may be best way to go for many Landry families since it is much cheaper than live courses. Plus registration never closes for recorded courses. Unlimited Access is $1 the first 7 days. It is then $30 a month for the whole family for unlimited access to 270 recorded courses. You can cancel anytime. This way you don't have a big investment up front. And you can pick up the school year fairly easily, since courses are broken into semesters.. It is important to note that our classes are taught through a Catholic lens so that may not be the best fit for some. However, we are inclusive and invite everyone. We do have non-Catholics take courses with us, especially writing, math, and science. (Someone asked about creative writing -- we have an amazing fiction-writing series.) Here is the registration page for live courses, https://reg129.imperisoft.com/HomeschoolConnectionsOnline/Search/Registration.aspx Here's the Unlimited Access page, http://homeschoolconnectionsonline.com/unlimited-access-1 And the course catalogs, http://homeschoolconnectionsonline.com/courses-catalog Don't hesitate for a second to let me know if you have questions or suggestions by emailing me at homeschoolconnections@gmail.com.
  6. Just a note ... if you take it as a recorded course instead of live, you cannot call it AP on the high school transcript. Instead, you would call it College-Preparatory Chemistry, Chemistry II, or Advanced Chemistry. Of course, you can still take the AP test and put the results of the test on your transcript. If you take AP Chem live, then you can call it Advanced Placement (AP) Chemistry. It is a very rigorous course and not for the faint of heart.
