Update: IEW was a huge success. Ds came in the top 20% of his SAT score in essay and maths and is going into tertiary education in a few months! We also did various other writing programs, but IEW was the one that triggered things.

Is there any explicit violence and gore in this book? I'm looking at this translation: The Expedition of Cyrus (which I believe is the name as Persian Expedition?).

The Uncle Eric books on government are wonderful. Penny Candy would be my favourite. I didn't like WWII from a homeschoolers perspective as I found it way too biased for a teenager. Some bias is ok, but this one was disturbing in some cases, ie it paralleled the Holocaust (close up cold blooded killing) with Britain's bombing campaigns. But his economics books are great.

I've looked at the Amazon reviews and they say that Marlowe's retelling of the Faust legend is the best. But what do you think of it as a homeschooler, to read aloud with teens, each person taking on a character? Also, how disturbing is it? Thank you

Ds16 is currently doing Apologia Physics and has expressed an interest in particle physics, ie quarks and leptons etc, and wants to go deeper into this subject area. I didn't do science in senior high or college, so I don't know where to look. We both enjoy the Apologia, conversational style, of doing science, so it would be great to find something like it specializing in this subject area. Does anyone know of something like this that ticks those boxes? thank you
