  1. Oh man that is rough. Poor thing. I hope she connects with some real friends soon.
  2. The same thing happened to us. Card compromised twice, once before we even got it. We canceled the whole thing.
  3. Yes, we've done it in less time. Our last move was 5 months from looking around at what was available to deciding to sell to moving day.
  4. Thank you! That makes me feel much better about staying the course.
  5. The schools I know of do teach phonics (digraphs, etc) combined with a ton of sight words and I guess you'd call it context reading (looking at the picture, etc). I'm sure there are vast differences depending on teacher, school, district, and state.
  6. My oldest son did W&R Fable last year (3rd grade). I talked with a CAP rep at the Expo and we decided based on my son's writing ability he should skip Narrative 1 and go to Narrative 2 for 4th grade. He's about 2 lessons away from completing it so I'm planning to order the next level. But I'm looking at samples of Chreia & Proverb. It just doesn't look all that relevant to me writing skills wise. What is the need for this book or could we skip ahead to Book 5? Is that a huge mistake? Will the skills in Chreia really be skill building steps? I'm sure they have reasons for what exists in that level but I'd love to know the thoughts from The Hive. Seems like when I've read posts here about W&R a lot of people jumped ship at Chreia but I like what I see in the future books. So advice from those who have BTDT or have more insight. Thanks!
  7. Well I don't...yet...since my boys are still elementary age! Right now one wants to attend my alma mater and the other wants to attend my husbands alma mater. I am curious if they'll stick with that when the time really comes. I'm sure I'll research whatever they do choose thoroughly.
  8. My son is the opposite! He'll buckle down and work with the timer. With set number of problems he gets distracted between each problem and takes forever. They are all different. Hope you find what works for you.
  9. FWIW We found it better with BA to set a timer. He works for a set length of time versus a set number of problems.
  10. I think I've already changed my mind. Now I'm thinking... Math: Beast Academy finish 4 and start 5 Spelling: AAS Language Arts: ELTL 4 Writing: Writing and Rhetoric books 5&6 Latin: finish GSWL Logic: No idea! Science: Science in the Scientific Revolution History: BF Early American History Intermediate or possibly just SOTW 3. Science and history are the most up in the air!
  11. I've never been to court or even had to report for jury duty. When I was 11-12 the woman who lived across the street, where I spent a lot of time and even babysat, was murdered by her husband. I wanted to go to that trial but my parents didn't let me. My dad went.
  12. Do notebook pages like those exist for the 3rd book(scientific revolution)? I'm considering it for next year's science. Thanks!
  13. The church my kids play Upwards basketball in hosted one last night. My son had a state swim meet though so we didn't participate in Night to Shine. I heard it was fabulous though.
  14. My son has done Fix It and ELTL. I was planning to switch him back to Fix It next year just to shorten his day a bit but he says he likes ELTL better. I've never used the writing program from IEW. So while I'm still not totally sure what I want to do next year I will keep his opinion in mind. That's probably not helpful to you but figured I'd throw it out there.
  15. I am an hour outside Orlando. I'll come watch the baby. That would be a dream come true for me. Hanging out in a hotel with a little baby. Yep. I love babies and am not having more. Now I just need to find something to do with my kids for those days....
  16. We do ELTL and AAR. You don't need to do RLTL to benefit from ELTL. Drop HWOT and get the workbook for ELTL for handwriting practice. I know nothing about BW.
  17. I'd definitely be interested to hear more of this story. What is presented here is insane but there HAS to be more to it. I hope.
  18. I'm debating history for next year. We are reading SOTW 2 (medieval) this year. We started with Wayfarers but dropped it because we just couldn't keep pace and are just reading SOTW combined with written activities (sometimes just writing, sometimes fun things like making a newspaper story, etc) after. I'd like to do a little more in depth history next year as we enter the early modern history time period. What is your favorite for this period? I've looked at Prairie Primer and Beautiful Feet Books Early American History Intermediate level. My boys will be 3rd and 5th grade.
  19. My post should say Belmont but my phone won't let me edit it.
  20. My in laws live in Belont outside Charlotte. It is a cute little town but I don't know anything about the homeschool experience there.
