  1. What I like about TT, is the solutions which provides step by step answers to each problem. The CD was handy for problemsthat my child or I couldn't figure out. However, after using TT, algebra needs repeated. I'm concerned that other curriculum won't have step by step answers, which were in itself a valuable learning tool.
  2. Thanks, Lanny! Here's the link http://www.rainbowresource.com/product/Prentice+Hall%3A+Algebra+1+Homeschool+Bundle/052330/2ead6557e81d25eb5512af90?subject=10&category=7705. I noticed that different versions might be available on amazon, school/state versions.
  3. I'm looking for advice on teaching with Prentice Hall algebra 1. I've no experience with PH math. Also what components do I need to buy? The homeschool bundle is what I'm looking at, it's about $108 before shipping. TIA.
  4. I thank you for sharing your experiences with various high school grammar texts. They're all great programs; as I looked through sample pages I found interesting qualities to each one. Queens Homeschool Supplies is a company I hadn't heard of before. I did decide to purchase Easy Grammar Plus, but with Daily Grams for quick review. Easy Grammar Ultimate would've been my first choice; it has lots of short cumulative review for the student already proficient in most aspects of Grammar.
  5. Hello,. Which high school grammar curriculum is your fav? My DD completed Charlotte Mason style in grade school, and easy grammar in Jr high. Im wanting a complete program, not just review; and something not terribly time consuming. Tia
  6. When I click on "add an advertisement" it actually "signs out' I"m no longer logged into the website, hmm I just don't get it. I have been a member for a few months and have posted several times. Any advice is greatly appreciated
  7. Hello, By any chance, did this get resolved and what is the solution to be successful at posting to Classifieds?
  8. thanks for sharing, Contessa and Debbie!!! Contessa, is the sign language course online? My dd is quite interested in taking a sign language course.
  9. has anyone tried block scheduling for high school? What especially worked well, and what would you do differently?
  10. Hello, I've tried to use the "Sale and Swap Board" and have been unsuccessful. A message occurs saying that I must post once to TWTM forums, which I have done. and have been a member for a few months. I'd like some advice please on how to post to the "Sale and Swap Board". Thanks a bunch!!
  11. For American History, my dd is interested in Crash Course by John Green. I believe these online videos are a total of 25 to 45 hours at the most. I'm buying Excellence in Literature: American so there will be plenty of historical fiction and writing assignments. This course can count as English, or Lit. or possibly History. Feeling that more needs to be added for History, any ideas? Possibly something project based.
  12. btw, what is the Big History project? I've never heard of it. Lisa
  13. I'm from Illinois. I'd like to find a girl pen pal for my daughter who's 14 (and vegetarian)
  14. If she completed a vet tech degree at a community college, not a vocational school, the credits should transfer towards a pre-vet program at a 4 year college. For instance, Parkland College in Champaign, IL has a vet tech degree that's quite inexpensive compared to most. A vet tech would be paid by the hour. A realtor puts in many hours without pay and somehow is expected to cover expenses for gas, cell phone, advertising, lunches with clients, office supplies, etc.
  15. Jenn, Your curriculum is fantastic!! I'm thinking of botany for 9th, and biology for 10th grade. Regarding CK-12 Biology, are there answers to the original workbook? Can one buy a print copy of original workbook somewhere? Would you call your Biology course honors, of one followed your lesson plans and read most of the supplemental books? or two credits, one each for science and literature? Before I heard about your courses, I'd written up tentative plan for Prentice Hall Biology because I own the text and teacher books. But this, your science curriculum, is what I've been searching for!!
  16. I've not used this program yet. I do have the syllabus from 2006. The end of each chapter a few questions are assigned; and a there are 2-3 projects to choose from. Most look like small manageable projects, but some require plenty of research. I think the assignments could fulfill part of the writing requirements for the year. To offer practice with essay techniques, you could use some the assignment forms from IEW or other writing guidelines. Please update us if you buy the book. I haven't purchased the text yet, but definitely am going to.
  17. I'm needing suggestions please for a creative writing curriculum for 9th grade. Is there anything out there possibly aimed toward short story of novel writing?
  18. My dd is about to finish Elegant Essay, she's learned a great deal. However, there are very few essays assignments. Most chapters concludes with 2-3 worksheets. I think Elegant Essay It teaches fancy techniques to improve essays, but it doesn't teach essay writing Student Writing Intensive level C (SWI-C) also from IEW, has so many more essay assignments. It's a solid high school level course that teaches the basics and beyond of essay writing The course uses both books and DVDs. .
  19. I recommend having him study all about fractions before taking TT Pre-Algebra. Granted, some of it will be repeated, but it will be time well spent. Kahn Academy is a good resource or Key to Fractions by Key Cirriculum. Maybe one of his high school courses could an elective based in interest.
  20. Several titles appear on amazon with the search words "Geology for college"
  21. It might be good to read to him all kinds of picture books and chapter books, regardless of reading level... let him choose books he likes, and also you choose several books that are above his "reading level" He might enjoy seeing his current favorite words printed on a magnetic white board and posted on the fridge. It could be fun to have a journal for his favorite words that day, stories he makes up, or the best part of his day, etc. This activity to also be extended to mini books in which he could draw illustrations Nature journaling is another fun activity which could be in a journal or in mini books. Obviously you would jot down his words and stories for him.
  22. Yes, magazine articles would be a great addition to curriculum. Art and architecture for history is a great idea too. Thanks so much! My daughter is definitely ready for more complicated subjects, however many times a visual element is missing with curriculum. For instance, she's reading Treasure Island for Kolbe Jr. High Lit. One day she looked online for images of many vocab words pertaining to boats and sailing; this exercise absolutely added to comprehending certain elements in the story. Sometimes a few rabbit trails are needed, but not an entire unit study on one novel.
  23. Chiguirre, Thank you for the suggestions! I've been looking at RR also, most likely for grades 10 and 11. Will look into Quarks and Quirks, thank you. I do have Biology planned for 9th, so I could use some of their suggestions. For some subjects, it might be nice to supplement with a few picture books each week to make strictly textbook learning a bit more interesting.
  24. regentrude, thank you for the suggestion. www.fiar.com Five in a Row curriculum uses literature and a unit study approach; and has levels for K-4, maybe more. The term rowing can refer to mimicking FIAR techniques with other books. The literature is always illustrated and the same book is read each day for five days. Directly after, a subject from the lesson book is chosen and presented. Subjects include Social Studies, Geography, Language Arts, Applied Math, Science and Art.
