  1. Hi everybody, I know this is an old thread, but I'm wondering if anyone knows a good AP Latin tutor who can work over Skype? DS will be taking the exam this year, it's time to look for a tutor. Thank you for reading! Mic
  2. Thank you Barbara! I think that makes sense. And thank you quark and Kathy for the score info. I guess I will save the scores then. Eager to know what the new SAT will look like. Are all your kids around the same age? I know Kathy's kids are older.
  3. Thank you Kathy, that's very helpful information. Just wondering, when DS applies for college, the new SAT will be in effect, so I don't know how the schools will view the old SAT scores. I also think DS could do a lot better in high school in both math and CR, so I have a hard time deciding. Quark and Kathy, it seems you both saved the scores, if you don't mind can you tell me the range of scores of you kids? I don't know if DS's scores is high enough to worth saving. Thank you very much!
  4. Hi quark, Thank you for your response. Did your kid do well on all sections? DS didn't do so well in CR and writing (high 500) so I'm not sure if I want to keep that record. Michelle
  5. Hi, DS (7th grader) took the SAT and qualified for CTY SET with his math score (730). His CR and writing portion aren't that good compared to his math. I read somewhere that if you qualify for CTY SET, you should keep your SAT score on record. Is that really necessary? Isn't a mentioning of being a SET member enough say? And for those who have applied for college, did you put CTY SET in the award category? Do you think it helps with admission? I am happy with DS's qualification but don't know much about the program. Thank you for your time. Michelle
  6. Hi everybody, I am thinking of having my son attend CTY this summer and want to pick a math course. They have several courses for 4th grader and I don't know what to choose. Anyone who had attended CTY summer math program care to share some insights? Thank you very much! Mic
  7. Really? Nobody ever heard of this place? Oh no! :scared:
  8. WISC or similar test? DS took WIAT almost two years ago and the scores qualified for DYS but I think they need one more test. Thanks in advance.
  9. Have you heard of this organization? Is this something worth joining or just one of those places exploiting the name of gifted and talented? Thanks.
  10. Thank you Brenda and Donelda! I will look into those books. I am just so upset 'cause school will be starting soon and DS didn't do anything academic the whole summer! Wish time could slow down. :-)
  11. Hi, I know a lot of discussions here regarding math but I'm wondering if anyone could give me some guidance with reading comprehension and writing. My nine year old is doing relatively well with all subjects but when it comes to reading comprehension and writing, he is just not getting it! Especially when it comes to questions like finding the topic sentence or summary of what he just read. His writing is also very lagging with major problems in sentence structure and organization. He is an avid reader but it doesn't seem to help him with comprehension and writing. I tried personal tutor but it's not helping either. Do you know a program that would help? Wanted to look into something like Sylvan Learning but don't know if that helps. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Mic
  12. I totally agreed with you! I felt terrible every time after I got mad at him in situations like this. (I didn't exactly "yelled" at him but I felt like I did because I felt so guilty about it.) And I guess every kid is different. Some are really studious and don't need any intervention from the parents. When DS was little, I could just reason with him and he would listen. But now his focus has shifted, if you give him a choice, he would spend all his time on his games and tv. I know he has the potential to learn and it's hard for me to just let him waste his time. If you don't progress, you regress. I am just hoping one day he will realize I won't be there pushing him every step of his way and he needs to get motivated himself.
  13. Hi Elisa, I thought of skipping too, but my friend's son took it a second time so ..... you know, peer pressure! :) Actually take it every other grade seems like a really good idea! :thumbup1: Mic
