Less Conservative Homeschooling

We consider ourselves progressive Christians and instead use secular materials and curriculum and add religious studies that align with our world view. Hope this helps! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Yes. My 11th grader used 3D Animation 1 last year and really enjoyed it. The teacher was great and easy to communicate with. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I like the samples online, thanks! I think putting the reading passage first and giving them context for the words makes more sense. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Great, some really good options here! @MyLife It's always been dry, but we managed to get it done and it seemed effective. I'm finding the less we all like it, the less effective it is. I think we just need something new! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My kids like work books, but loathe WW. It's pretty darn dry... they do enjoy the reading passages, but the comprehension questions just don't appeal to me. I often just ask my own and then we discuss them. This is our 3rd year using them (2nd and 4th) for reference.

I still haven't found what I am looking for ...

I think 6- trait writing from Evan Moor might fit your bill! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I'm looking for a literature based American history for my daughters, 8 and 6. It doesn't need to be chronological. We're not a big project family, though a few relevant ones that reinforce what they're learning is fine. I don't see an option to purchase history alone. Does this mean that I should look at MBTP? I can't quite tell from their website either if they use living history books and I'm also not seeing and age 6-8 social studies. Experiences or knowledge with either or another suggestion is very welcome! (We used BKSK History 1 this year and I just couldn't deal with the read alouds not matching up with the history we were learning. Though, most of the their read-alouds were enjoyable.)

This was my first year homeschooling our daughters ages 6 and 8. We will be taking summer off for the most part, but I hope that they will retain most or some of what we have learned. I'm thinking Xtra math or a MUS lesson once or twice a week for both of them. We read tons of books, so that's not really a concern. Would easy grammar be a good summer workbook for my 8 year old? We use ETC and it's tied into our curriculum, so I don't want to use them until we start our next year. What about for my rising 1st grader? I think I'm just looking for some easy "grab and go" workbook type things for both of them. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have :)

It's a hit here too. I usually complete my own version right along with my girls! ;) (8 and 6). We use Grade 1

There's a "homeschooling with Bookshark" Facebook page that I've found really helpful. Not only is it an active member page, but there is also a representative from Bookshark who will answer questions and take concerns to staff. I'm sure she would want to know this, as they seem eager to please. We're only in 1st grade History, but the timeline figures are a bit of an after thought for us. Possibly because, as mentioned above, they seem to include the obscure ones and not the figures you would expect.

Religion curriculum or books needed
lolobeth802 replied to lolobeth802's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Very good, thank you all! -
My girls are 6 and 8 and we're using Telling God's Story year 1. While we are loving it, I feel like we need something to "beef" it up a bit. After we complete a lesson, I'm always searching online for another little snippet to help explain this or that in a different way. We love living books and audio books, so that could work too. Thanks!
