  1. LA: Logic of English foundations C (finish last few lessons of B, first) Toying with the idea of adding FLL for K5 and my PreK kiddo Math: RSM B and Miquon for practice (Orange, maybe Red) for PreK kiddo, I have Mathematical Reasoning age 4 History: Bede's History of Me; we might interview grandparents and make memory storybooks Science: Real Science 4 Kids Biology + Nature study in library books, nature journal, and general life science (body books, games and puzzles) I also got a chemistry book and molecule model but won't touch it until next year unless she is interested in molecules and atoms as she was a few months back) Second Language: see it and say it flip flop Spanish Geography: world puzzles set and country study units with library books and loosely following Expedition Earth, flag frenzy game That's a lot. It's because I have a PreK kiddo as well so I wanted quite a bit that we could do together and I want to set a solid foundation for SOTW next year (hoping it's not over his head by then). Extracurricular will be play and time with dad since I work in the evenings and cannot take on other things right now.
  2. I am only a year in but I am a curriculum junkie as well. My favorites are: Everything on the Sonlight preschool booklist Logic of English Foundations (I just overlook the spelling for my 5 year-old) RightStart Math My daughter prefers Singapore Earlybird and Mathematical Reasoning but I can't function well with the format of workbook with no teacher guidance. (Singapore has a teacher manual but I didn't buy it). I am searching for an art program and I will likely purchase Artistic Pursuits based on your responses.
  3. Thanks for taking the time to clue me in! I have tried mathematical reasoning for my Pre-K and K kiddos and I see how their books are more like supplements because that is naturally the position they have taken in our homeschool. My daughter loves the math workbook because it is colorful and arranged in a spiral way so she can jump around from concept to concept. It took awhile to wean her off and to use RSM, which is a complete program and probably doesn't even need a supplement. Jackie, my kids love games. More workbooks could potentially kill their drive to learn but games are so fun and therefore motivating! I will check out the games you suggested and I probably won't use anything from the CTC besides the Can You Find Me or Mindbenders for this stage.
  4. We have used Singapore Earlybird A and some of B. I recommend it for what you are looking for. We have also used Mathematical Reasoning and I also highly recommend that. I recommend them as supplements. I had previously thought that we could use them as spines but the complete student independence combined with very little help in direct instruction from the teacher was disconcerting. My daughter would need help with a new concept and I felt like the introduction of the concept was lacking with the workbook style. That said, these would be great for supplements.
  5. Hey there! This is my first posted topic! I got a Critical Thinking Company catalog today. I like their Mathematical Reasoning program so far as a fun supplement. We can park ourselves on the couch and go over the book and it's completely stress-free. I am wholly unfamiliar with their other offerings. They do offer several logic-based books for grade1-grade 4. For those NOT familiar with The CTC, I have a general question: I am wondering what the basic consensus is on logic for grammar stage. Is it taking time away from facts and not giving much benefit or is it a good preliminary, low-stress way to gain a foundation for the logic stage? For those familiar with The CTC, would you recommend any of their books? English grammar? Latin? Greek word roots? Or...Logic? And for what stages did the books work for you with classical education?
  6. We followed the LOE Foundations A curriculum and I did think those strokes were different but we trudged through them and we are so far past that in Foundations B. I think it is a perfect program for early readers because it doesn't stress writing all that much but does emphasize the correct way to write. We love it, despite feeling a bit odd about the swing stroke and the...I can't even remember the others, now. It is not an inexpensive program, either! I say stick it out. My biggest thing was struggling over whether or not to do spelling with a four year old. I wish I wouldn't have.
