LA suggestions for struggling ADHD 7th grader?
webbeccjo replied to just.me's topic in Parents' Forum Afterschooling Board
we use a very old AVCO spelling program called "if it is to be it is up to me" (I know, crazy name!!!) It was written in the 70s and the sentences are so dated, its hilarious! but its the ONLY thing that works for my struggling ADHD /Dyslexic 14yo ds. The sequential spelling program grew out of the research behind this book, but I really like this one better. http://www.avko.org/716.html Don't be put off by how simplistic it looks or how cheesy the title is!! It is truly the best thing we've ever come across for ds. He was not getting anywhere with any of the other programs we tried and Im amazed at how well his spelling is improving! -
Looks awesome! I'd love it :)

have you considered making your own? you can print your label out onto printable fabric sheets or you can use transfer paper and iron onto twill tape. you could also get them printed up at spoonflower (http://whiletheysnooze.blogspot.com.au/2011/10/make-your-own-labels-cheap.html) here are a few tutorials http://allysonhill.typepad.com/allyson_hill/2007/06/make_your_own_l.html http://sewmehappyblog.blogspot.com/2012/06/how-to-make-your-own-sewing-labels-for.html http://www.gwennypenny.com/2010/12/homemade-sewing-labels.html http://patchworkpottery.blogspot.com/2008/09/fabric-labels-tutorial.html http://duhbe.com/blog/2009/05/diy-clothing-labels-part-2-how-to-make-them/

I'd suggest going straight to TT prealgebra for 9th grade and use various other resources to supplement if he struggles. there's SO much review in the TT prealgebra.... then when you move on, the first half of TT alg1 is practically the same as the second half of prealg so theres a lot of review. you could move through that pretty quickly. that would give you time to cover some geometry too which would really help him on the placement tests at cc

we were in a similar boat last year. I ended up using the TT prealgebra book for an outline of topics to cover but using a combo of mcp math, khan academy videos, and key to workbooks to actually teach the topics

*shrug* I guess I just don't see how it should matter what others think of my old wrinkly saggy skin whether it has a tat on it or not! :)
