  1. For DS I used T4L for phonics and BOB books, plus tons of read aloud and side by side reading. The thing that really grabbed him, though, was Dick and Jane. I checked out a Collection book from the library and he was all in.
  2. Well, we were notified Monday is the last day for schedule change requests. I asked him if he wanted to make any changes, and he said no. He says he has a VERY good schedule and he likes it. He got up every morning without complaint and I haven’t had to bug him to do his homework yet. So I guess he’s liking it so far! Favorite class is Drafting and least favorite is Geometry (probably because it has been the class with the most homework so far).

  5. We got this update yesterday at the end of our first week of school: As of this morning, 2.15% of our student population (4,477) are either in isolation due to a positive case or in quarantine due to exposure (Day 3 enrollment = 208,587). This number is inclusive of students who either tested positive or were exposed to a positive case while off campus and have not attended school yet. We also have 289 staff members at schools and district offices (1.22%) in isolation or quarantine (Employee Count= 23,596) We encourage all families to talk to their children about utilizing the same health and safety protocols used in schools while enjoying time out in the community with friends and family. https://www.smore.com/h5pc6

  8. Quoting myself to add: I refreshed the screen after posting and now the dashboard shows 406 cases for that same period. However, none of the individual day totals changed 🤔
  9. DS says they are not checking/enforcing at his high school. We got the call about new cases on the second day of school. The only thing that surprised us was that it wasn’t on day 1. Here’s Hillsborough County’s (Tampa) dashboard. Also goes from right to left.
  10. Sending love and strength to Susan and family ❤️
  11. I think public school has been harder on me so far than homeschooling. So very many forms. And logins and passwords and schedules and forms. Oh, my!
  12. School starts Tuesday. DS got his “tentative” schedule at Freshman orientation on Thursday. I called the guidance counselor on Friday. 😂. The conversation was...irritating. I shall not recount it here. I’m taking deep breaths and consciously deciding that I need to just let the school be in charge. Because I put him in PS this year so it wasn’t on me. I have to remember that. The good thing is he passed the Algebra EOC and so will be able to move on to Geometry.
  13. My swelling is down but my finger is super itchy. Like, I’m about to scratch all the skin off. Ugh.
  14. At least my yard is weeded. Sitting outside and enjoying the view. I found spots yesterday where my cranberry hibiscus and my camellia had been seeded. I like where the new camellia is coming up, so I left that one. The hibiscus I transplanted. Fingers crossed it likes its new location.
  15. Yes, my other stings took a while, too. The problem is this time it is affecting both hands. And on my right hand has expanded to include not just the index finger, but the back of my hand to the knuckle of my middle finger. Taking a long time to subside is one thing. I am watching closely though because spreading is concerning since I have a work trip I leave for tomorrow and don’t have full functionality of my hands at the moment -which I need to type. If the swelling spreads any more, it will not be a fun trip. I don’t want to end up in Urgent care in Pittsburgh! So not freaking out at this point, but the spreading is getting a side-eye reaction from me this morning.
  16. I’m thinking I need more Benadryl. Swelling has not gone down. It actually feels a bit worse. Darn that wasp.
  17. Hmmm I wonder if I still have to send in end of year paperwork if I’ve enrolled DS is public. I guess I should. I’m guessing one group doesn’t talk to the other.
  18. I got stung by a wasp today. Twice. Once on my right index knuckle and then on my left thumb. Bam bam. Same wasp. I screamed and danced around like a mad woman trying to get my gardening gloves off and ran in the house to run my hands under cool water. Took some Benadryl and used a bite/sting relief wipe. Then I slept for two hours. Now I have swollen fingers and my head is in a Benadryl fog. I was mostly done with the weeding, at least. Not cool, wasp. Not cool.
  19. Thanks, Slache. I really wanted to reach Platinum. Thanks for understanding. 😂
