  1. Did you like this book? My mom and I read this book about a year ago and it really had a profound effect on both of us. I have her latest book on my nightstand. Mom said it was good but hard to beat Sarah's Key. That story stayed with me much longer than most books I have read over the years.
  2. I just finished reading The Distant Hours by Kate Morton...you should add this to your list to read! LOVED IT...wish she had more for me to read as I have read 3
  3. I think it was a way to get more viewers watching...his way of talking to the girls about the looks and outfits is more of a concern I feel. He loves the attention they give him. I just wonder how he will act when they go to Hollywood and the girls get the makeovers!
  4. This sounds great!!!! Adding it to my list as I type!!:001_smile:
  5. HEY THERE!!!! I got a Keurig for Christmas from R...only thing I wish is that I could buy the Kcups open stock online. We have found a coffee shop in Carbondale(about an 1 1/2 hours from here) that sells them like that so I can try them but I would like to find a place online that I could order from. Honestly, I had the French Toast at Christmas and it was too sweet for me. Blueberry...no way, however have you tried the Blueberry Vodka that you put in lemonade or tea? Sorry to switch drinks but it just made me think of it and I love it! say hi to gang!
  6. :grouphug: So sorry for the family. Hoping for guidance, strength and a sense of peace for all.
  7. Well, if they were good friends of ours, I would simply ask if there is any way that we could help in some way. This would have to be a humiliating situation and it may seem lame but encouragement of any degree would be a good thing. I can't imagine going thru something like that and where to even begin pulling ourselves out of something that extreme.
  8. same sort of feelings in our family as well...they all are very pleased with the level of education the kids have received but think that it is time for them to be in a "real" school! Mixed signals for sure!
  9. :lol:I miss those days....wish I was counting toes instead of Algebra!!!
  10. Where the Red Fern Grows Skeeter By the Great Horn Spoon Tucket's Travels Way Back in the Ozarks(Books 1 and 2) holy cow...my boys loved this!!!
  11. This is just another example of how reality TV is ruining family viewing time. Nothing is too strange anymore and we are supposed to accept it, embrace it and think it is all perfectly normal that it is on TV for all to see. I am the first to say I love TV and I watch my share of reality shows(House Hunters International, American Pickers, even Survivor and Amazing Race) but I long for just some great shows like The Smothers Brothers, Carol Burnett and as my husband jokingly says, shows from "days of yore!" My kids hate when he says that!!!!
  12. But, I hate the moldy rubber rim that never comes clean no matter how much I scrub and leave the door open between washes. Ugh!!!!! I have the same problem and I hate it! Always leave the doors open and I just bought some once/monthly TIDE cleaner specifically for HE washers that is supposed to help with odor. I have a Bosch...got great reviews in Consumer Reports. I guess it is okay...no bells or whistles on mine.
  13. Gnome Mobile any Dean Jones(Disney Movie) Pete's Dragon We always look for movies by scrolling down to the bottom of the page on the movie we just ordered. They usually give ideas and suggestions for other movies. Our problem is we have seen sooooo many movies that it is becoming increasingly difficult to find "good" ones to watch. My kids are pretty good movie critics and so they don't want to just watch the so-so ones.
  14. Did anyone see the woman that was saved by her husband stepping in front of her and as a result he lost his life? She was interviewed on one of the morning shows last week. Remarkable woman...such a loss of a wonderful husband as well from what she said. But one of the things that caught both my husband and my attention was how she spoke in a forgiving way about the killer and that she realized he ruined his life as well. Amazing that someone in that situation can say those words...and yes, I feel sooo sad for his parents. I can't imagine their pain.
  15. We saw it...not one I would pay money again to see but kids and husband thought it was funny. I have to really want to see a movie and it has to get really good reviews before I opt for theater vs. couch, pjs, and comforts of home.
  16. We are not on speaking terms which is extremely troubling to my parents. It is not by choice on my part but unfortunately my brother has chosen this relationship. I wish for something different with him but it has been this way for about 10 years so I doubt that he will want more. I am envious of others who have a close relationship with siblings.
  17. YOU are not alone! ITunes makes us crazy. It should be easier than it is and the website doesn't help much. And I have gone to the trouble to call and you have to pay for their help. We still have issues all the time and most of the time, we don't know how to resolve the problems.
  18. I personally hate the way our society is pushing the youth of today to be the "most" this or that. I have nieces that play on 2 basketball teams each...this weekend they each have 3-4 games on Saturday. That is insane and they do that every weekend! My parents have friends that they get together with every Friday night and they all seem to be comparing grandkids and who is doing the best. It's all about comparing achievements. I know I want my boys to have opportunities in life and a good education but I what I really want is for them to love learning and to have a good chance at a life that will bring them happiness and contentment. I want them to have the chance to have a job that they enjoy, for their spouses to be stay-at-home moms if they choose, and to be able to provide for their families. I don't remember when I was a kid that life was so complicated as it is for kids today. Saw something about this topic the other day on news and it is a sad thing to me how much pressure our youth is under today. I would hate in many ways to be in their shoes.
  19. Just finished Wild China: Heart of the Dragon! We all loved it! This is why I love homeschooling! Going off to check on others to add to the list. This is great to have a video instantly without the wait from library or Netflix, too.
  20. We absolutely loved the Ken Burns WWII and the Civil War. I think we all learned more from those series about history than I did in high school!
  21. I am looking for some science and history videos for 8th-9th grade. Any suggestions. I will have to get them thru Netflix as our library does not have a good selection of educational videos at all. We have watched Ken Burns Civil War, WWII and Drive thru History and loved both series! We have not watched many science videos as I am not aware of what's out there. I would like to find some that are entertaining as well as informative. Thanks for suggestions.
  22. My 8th and 9th graders are taking Algebra with Ms. Jann. I,too have a student that struggles with math and I sometimes think that he would benefit from a class that meets more than once a week. The pace can be a bit daunting for the two of us as it is fast-paced for us and a good deal of work(for those of us who struggle with math!) I know that sometimes I feel that we spend more time than necessary on a daily basis for math just to get our assignment done. We do an average of 90minutes to 2 hours a day. I guess I look at this way in that math scores are very important and I feel if we are going to spend extra time on any subject that math is probably one of the best ones to focus on. We always find time for history, science and the fun subjects. However, food for thought...I know that since I struggled in school with math that I would be terrible at teaching him so I wanted to consider online this year. Jann came recommended on TWTM and I like that the class is small and that she makes herself VERY available to answer questions and help. He would not get that in ps or private school and would perhaps do poorly as I did.
