  1. thanks for the comments. I agree with you and he is very trustworthy and he gives me no reason to be concerned about misuse. I read in a magazine not too long ago that Iphone 4 has problems...do you know anything about that?
  2. yes, she is going to pay for a year and then he will be responsible for it.
  3. My son is turning 16 in a couple of weeks. His grandma is going to get him a smart phone for his birthday. I know nothing about them and would appreciate any advice or recommendations from those of you that have one. Favorites...pros and cons? We have Verizon service.
  4. We have just found out today that our two boys are going to be able to take 4 classes at a local private Christian school. This is a great opportunity as it is their first time "out there" and has a really good environment. Unfortunately, we are going to have to rearrange our orginal homeschool plans in order to make this work this fall. We were orginally going to take Geometry with Ms. Jann from TX and now they are going to be taking classes at that time. I would like to know if there is a Geometry out there for someone like me that is terrible with math. It needs to be easy to teach and user-friendly. We are going to be under tremendous stress this fall as we are making a long-distance move after this semester and so we are going to be dealing with preparation for that as well as the kids transitioning to going to this school in the afternoons and having a committed schedule. Please if you have any suggestions of a text that we can do on our own...it may be done in car and on the road at times as this school is 40 minutes away. I need a text that is easy to understand. thanks
  5. I am considering using Sonlight's book recommendations in either core 100 or 200 I think it is called for Bible this year. I have one 9th grader and 0ne 10th grader. Any comments, suggestions or other texts that your kids found interesting. My kids love Bible history especially so if you know of any good texts please comment. thanks
  6. thanks, Karen for the blank example. This looks like something that I can work with and it not too overwhelming for me at this point!
  7. I am terrible on the computer and I have been reading several posts regarding transcripts. It seems many of you create your own. My question: is there a form or book that I can buy that i can use to create our transcripts? What do those of you that are not computer savvy use to create one? We met with a private school today to discuss taking a couple classes there and this. They asked for my son's transcript info...he just completed 9th grade.
  8. I am wanting to do a year of History and also the Geography. I am just really not sure what History curriuculum to use and that is why I am so vague on it. I think I would like the BJU Cultural Geography so we will probably use it. Guitar and golf will be used as electives I guess. I don't really know how to count them on a transcript. I'm lost when it comes to the transcript part. I need to find a website that lays it out for me. thanks for commenting.
  9. My sister-in-law is going to be competing in a triathalon in a couple of weeks. She is going to be part of a team where some run, some swim and some cycle. She will be riding 18 miles. She has really done a great job training for this and I would like to get her a necklace or bracelet with a bike theme or a motivational theme as a good luck gift. Do any of you have suggestions as to where I might find something like this?
  10. My boys are going into grades 9th and 10th and have never gone to school. This year was going to be a bit of a change in that as we were going to try a couple classes at a local Christian school. Unfortunately, my husband has been offered a job and so we have been thrown for a loop. My kids are wanting some friends and outside activities but we are hesitant to try school for a partial semester and then uproot them with the move. Sort of messed up our plans for the time being but I am hopeful when we arrive in Raleigh that we can find outside opportunities for them to get explore.
  11. I will have 2 boys-one in 9th and one in 10th. So far this is what I have selected. Would you please tell me if I am lacking on something? 1.Geometry: Holt with Ms. Jann in TX 2.Biology: BJU with DIVE CD-ROM 3.Literature: Movies as Literature 4.Grammar: Easy Grammar Plus Jensen's Format Writing 5.Spanish I: Visual Link 6.History: I have just bought America-The Last Best Hope and Don't Know Much About History. I am wanting to do Civil War-present(Modern Times) but still not sure about specifics 7.Geography/Gov't or Economics: we did Runkles last year(8th and 9th) so I am sort of leaning towards BJU Cultural Geography 8.Guitar lessons 9.Golf: my younger son is going to try out for local ps team. thanks for any comments and suggestions
  12. any suggestions for those of us that are trying this program this year? I saw the post about watching a film 3 times...not a realistic approach for us honestly...thought this might be something enjoyable for us as we are not lovers of literature at all...
  13. Just ordered this so I'll be curious to see posts on this as well!
  14. no, it was the pre-physics class that we took with Mr. Landry. I don't know exactly what I was expecting but it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. First, I must say that both of my boys received A's in the class and receive a great grade on their notebooks and tests. My boys both thought there was going to be more interaction online during class. They didn't care for the amount of class notes/reading/ and lab write-ups each week. I think when we do science it has been more hands on and that is what they like. All that being said, yes I do think they learned the text but I think what they like about science is the interaction and hands on and this class just didn't fit our style. Just an update on what I have decided to use...order BJU text to use with DIVE CD-ROM and lab workbook. I haven't ordered lab supplies yet as I am debating whether to order directly from DIVE or homeschool science supplies which I think some of you have suggested. Anyway, glad that some of you enjoy Mr. Landry's class...that's the beauty of homeschooling..everyone can go their own way of learning!
  15. are you using only Tindall or are you doing all the recommended reading for each section...that seems like a great deal of reading to me. I am looking for a similar history program so I'm curious what text and lesson plans you decided to use.
  16. Placed order for DIVE CD-ROM and student lab workbook. Now, placing order from BJU for student text...question is do any of you purchase the Teacher's edition or the BJU test/answers as well? Or just depend on the DIVE for those?
  17. Well, I made the decision to go with BJU and DIVE for Biology this year. I haven't bought lab supplies/kit so I am curious...where do those of you that use this curriculum buy your lab kits? I know they offer one on BJU and they also offer one on DIVE... I only bought the BJU Biology text and CD-ROM from DIVE plus the student lab book from DIVE.
  18. Lori, Just read your comments as I am browsing the English/Lit posts and wanted to compliment on your post. Great ideas and encouraging. I have 9th/10 graders and we all are "creatively constipated" when it comes to Lit/English and so I am on the search this year for something to help us all become better. I have Figuratively Speaking written down and I may also add The Giver:Garlic Press to my list as well. thanks for posting...helps those like me that are clueless on my journey as a teaching mom!
  19. what grade was your son in when he completed this course? I have 9th and 10th graders. They love history but they get overwhelmed with the heavy reading in some history texts. Did you require your son to read ALL the reading assignments that were mentioned per chapter? It seemed like quite a bit of reading. Also, how many days per week and how long each day? Did you have set lesson plans? thanks for the input.
  20. Are you only ordering the text from BJU? If you don't mind me asking, why are you ordering dissection from Homesciencetools vs. BJU? I am just trying to figure out what to order from them vs. other places along with what edition since I plan on using it along with DIVE.
  21. Wow...thanks so much for putting so much thought into my question. Honestly, I guess I think that since we World History last year that I should do American this year. We did Runkles Geography last year and so I was thinking maybe US History and some type of current events or cultual geography or gov't. Guess I would like something like you suggest but for US History! got any great ideas for that such as your other ideas? :001_smile:
  22. Have you used this before? I was looking at the Roadmap to American website and this may be what we are looking for! I need to call the company and ask a couple of questions....wondering if it is self-guided or does it come with a lesson plan of sorts to follow. thanks for the suggestion.
