Help! How to wean a BF baby
A home for their hearts replied to A home for their hearts's topic in The Chat Board
He does have eczema, and my LLL told me it could be a dairy allergy however I was never able to eliminate it from my diet. I try to limit the wheat that I give to him but he does have some when I need a convenient snack for him, i.e. gerber baby puffs, or Baby Mum Mums . He's eczema started at around 4 months, we didn't introduce solids until around 7 months so if it's an allergic reaction it's probably to something I'm eating. It all goes back to me being exhausted and not wanting to give up my comfort food. He is also walking, he started walking at about 9 1/2 months. He is very busy and on the go almost all day. He's learned how to climb up the stairs as well. -
Help! How to wean a BF baby

I do need to add that he is a big baby, he's in the 99th percentile. He weighed 27lbs . I'm a plus size mamma so baby carriers don't work for us. I have a moby but gave up on that when he was 2 months old and 18lbs. He does eat solids however I haven't introduced proteins yet. What would be good proteins and fat to give him? I haven't introduced cows milk either. -
Help! How to wean a BF baby
A home for their hearts replied to A home for their hearts's topic in The Chat Board
My husband can't do the night time parenting, he has to get up early in the morning for work. When I try to get the baby to sleep without nursing, evening during the day, it's a fight. He screams and fights me. The only time he falls asleep without being held is in the car. He doesn't nurse for long periods of time, when he does he doesn't really nurse, he just lays there and occasionally sucks, I rarely hear him swallowing especially during the day. I hear more swallowing at night. -
I'm done! Which is saying something for me because I usually bf until at least 2. My little one is almost 11 months old and I just don't want to do it anymore. We also co-sleep and he wants to be attached to my br##st or right next to me all night long which makes for very little sleep. I am exhausted. He doesn't take a pacifier so we can't fall back on that, we don't even have a bed for him. I know how to wean a toddler, but I don't know how to wean a baby. I need help. I can't continue living like this. I wake up every morning exhausted, with a major back ache. I'm dragging myself through the day, I start snapping at my kids because I'm so tired, I'm starting to forget things, I feel like I'm 80 years old. Please help!

Thanks for the suggestions on the science textbooks! The coop class is intended for high school, the lady teaching it has a son who will be in 9th grade. It is meant to be the literature part of BiblioPlan that another lady is teaching who also has a son who will be in 9th grade. I am concerned about the level of the books however I'm not sure if my dd would be ready for some of the heavier literature yet. My dd is not comfortable with writing essays, she loves writing creatively but not expository. That is why I was going to let her take the OYAN class, she really wants to take it but I'm afraid it might take up to much time. This is why I was adding in IEW and why her comp. is heavy. I haven't made a final decision yet. She does need to do literary analysis, I'm off to research Windows to the World.

We are working year round on math, it's one of those subjects that have always been hard for her. I'm determined for her to work at the fastest pace possible so she can get through Algebra 2. The information you've given me has been very eye opening. I'm glad I asked so we aren't scrambling her last 2 years of high school. What is a good physical science curriculum?

Thanks everyone for weighing in. Thanks for bumping! I was wondering if some of the literature was too young. Any suggestions for other books? Not sure as far as credits go, I'm new to this and still figuring it out. How many credits should a student have per year? She will either be doing Spanish or Latin, haven't decided which yet. She is college bound but we haven't started discussing that yet. When I was in high school I took Basic Math, prealgebra, Algebra 1, then Geometry and was still accepted into college, I'm not sure how big of an issue that will be. We will probably do math year round anyway as that's one of the subjects that tend to get forgotten after a couple of months

My ds13 has come a long way. He really struggled to learn to read and in the last couple of years I have seen tremendous improvement. Now that we are out of the early stages of reading I'm having trouble finding resources to help him continue to improve. I believe his fiction reading level to be one year below grade level. His non-fiction reading level is probably on a 3rd or 4th grade level. This did not match what he is able to learn in subject areas just where is independent reading level is at. Are there any resources or suggestions to help him improve his non-fiction reading level?

This is new territory for me. She is my oldest so the first one to start high school. I'm a little nervous and need all the help I can get. Here is what I've got planned so far? Math: Lial's College Basic Math w/Jann at My Homeschool Math Class History: BiblioPlan Ancients She will be doing this at our local co-op. We've never used BP before so I'm not sure how good of a fit this is for high school, some reviews I've read side it's a little light. Literature: She will be taking this at co-op as well. They will be reading Mara, Daughter of the Nile; The Bronze Bow; The Golden Fleece; The Iliad; The Odyssey; The Aenid; Archimedes and the Door of Science; and The Ides of April. The teacher isn't sure if they will be reading the last 2. I've gotten the Boomerang issue from BW for The Bronze Bow, we've never used these before. The teacher will be using some literature guides. Are there any other books I should have her read doesn't correlate to history? Grammar: I haven't decided on this yet. The only grammar she's done is R&S4, and Winston Grammar. I don't like the looks on Analytical Grammar, which a lot of people recommend. I've also seen mentioned Thinking Through Grammar, but the TM is very pricey. Writing: She will be taking One Year Adventure Novel at co-op, we will also be doing IEW Student Writing Intensive at home. Science: I have no idea what to do for science. I've been contemplating over Physical Science through Elemental Science. I like the it's online and twice a week, however with the cost of the text it would be over $380. Not sure if we can spend that much on science. She has no plans of entering into a biology field so I don't see the need for her to take biology. She is more interested in graphic designs. Is there a computer science course that I don't know about? This would be ideal. Art/Music: Harmony Fine Arts and a local Art Teacher offers art classes for homeschoolers so we may go that route. Am I missing anything? I was also wanting to either do Spanish or Latin. She's really wanted to take latin for awhile but I've shied away from it because I've have no history with the language. Latin Alive would probably be our best bet but it's on the more expensive side. I was also wanting her to do Logic but I'm not sure if she has time for that.

Is this possible? To wide of an age gap? I'm trying to combine as many subjects as we can this year. We really aren't the lapbooking type, and although the notebooking journals look wonderful, my will be 7 year old is still working on how to form letters, the 10 year old is still learning to read, and the 13 probably has dysgraphia, so I would be the one filling those journals in. Any suggestions on how to use this one text with multiple ages are greatly appreciated! I'm also open to adding in other fun resources. Looking through the book there there is a lot of difficult vocabulary what are some ways to help my dc learn all those big words? I was thinking of maybe using lyrical science with it.

My dd14 has done Winston Grammar Basic, and R&S 4 for basic diagramming that Winston Grammar didn't teach. That is all the grammar that she has had. I'm having a hard time finding something that isn't too babyish for where she is at. I've looked at Analytical Grammar and I don't think it'll work. I've also seen Thinking Through Grammar mentioned but I can't find any samples to tell if it's any good, plus the price for the TM is outrageous.

Learning To Teach
A home for their hearts replied to Reefgazer's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I feel the same way. I'm hoping that by the time #6 is ready to be educated I will know all I need to know to teach him. Of course, he could throw me a curve ball but at least I'll have more knowledge with him then I ever did with my first two! -
