  1. Thanks for the advice, ladies! I've found just about everything through used textbook sites but it was tedious. Glad that's over.
  2. Hey, Laurel, Where did you find the student study guide? Anything which could help guide his studies would be appreciated. Hey, Myra, I'm not having any success with finding websites for The Human Odyssey; if I come across anything, I'll let you know. Thanks for the help, Elaine in PA
  3. Good morning, all, Does anyone have information regarding the resources for Spielvogel's The Human Odyssey? I have the Teacher's Wraparound edition and on page 12A & 13A are several resources I believe my son would enjoy. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Elaine in PA
  4. I am teaching an "American Heritage Studies" this fall using Bennett's book and website. I've enjoyed reading the book on my own and my dd is thankfully I chose it instead of a textbook.
  5. Need recommendations for Algebra II text. DD has completed Algebra using Foerester's and will complete Geometry using Jurgensen's text. I would need solution guides, teacher's editions....basically anything that would hold my hand through the course. Thanks!
  6. Good morning, My dd is definately a lover of language (everything...she works on grammar for fun!). We are reviewing Algebra II programs for her junior year and would appreciate your advice. Our goal for her is to provide her with a well-rounded and solid math program but she definately doesn't need it to the degree my science loving son will need it. Would Math U See fit the bill? She is completing Gemetry now with a tutor and has a strong B. Thoughts and advice?
  7. We useFLL until 4th. Then 4th -8th, we continue with Rod and Staff and switch to Analytical Grammar through high school.
  8. Good afternoon! I'm looking for an American History spine for a 13yo boy who loves history. The more art, the better! Thanks! elaine in PA
  9. http://www.mainlesson.com/display.php?author=baldwin&book=roland&story=roland If the link doesn't work, goggle The Baldwin Project and search for Roland. It should take to the book. We will be reading it this week. Enjoy!
  10. We have the 5.0 edition of Startwrite and it has both HWT print and cursive.
  11. Good afternoon, all, I am teaching a Advanced Bio class this year and after looking through the labs, I am not to impressed. So I am interested in other lab ideas - if you have any ideas, please let me know. Thanks so much! Elaine in PA
  12. Good for you! I haven't hired a service (yet) but have slowly begun going through closets and finding a home for our stuff. If it doesn't have a home, then it is donated to Goodwill, passed along to someone in need, or sold (as in curriculum). It has been a very freeing experience.
  13. :iagree: We loved the Biblical worldview and mapwork but my ds still enjoyed SOTW so we used both. He greatly preferred the actual size of the SOTW books but did appreciate the Biblical emphasis in MOH.
  14. The Harp and Laurel is a great resource. We refer to it frequently. Elaine in PA
  15. When I was researching this very question for our studies, many historians place King Arthur around the late 400s to early 500s. When we begin our new history cycle (just one more week!), we will review the fall of the Roman Empire and launch into early British history with King Arthur. We'll begin reading The King Arthur Triology by Rosemary Sutcliff. HTH, Elaine in PA
  16. One absolutely adores literature and the other...well, let's just say his feelings toward lit. based learning is a first cousin to hate! He is my "just the facts, please!" kinda of guy. So literature and textbooks live quite happily together here.
  17. We are in the market for these as dd will be taking French with The Potter's School this fall. Thanks for suggestion.
  18. I'm guilty of the same! But regardless of your best efforts, they will miss something and it will be okay! Here's my two cents worth - it may not be worth that much! Forgo the Shurley English review - if you believe you require review, I would use the review books from AG/JG Pick one vocabulary program - we love VFCR Discuss the lit. with your children instead of having them work through a guide. Now I've purchased lit. guides for me for background, questions I may have, etc...but I just discuss our lit with the children and assign writing assignements as needed. We've used IEW for years and coordinating their writing assignments with the lit has worked well for us. I have AG for my 10th grader simply for review and for a change. We are die-hard Rod and Staff fans and the children have worked through R&S since 3rd grade. By 9th grade, dd requested a change. We are continuing SAT prep with our 10th grader which has added to her English studies but it's only 30 minutes a day. HTH, Elaine in PA HTH, Elaine in PA
  19. I have a friend who is - and she taught my daughter quite successfully. She begins students with what she refers to as "baby logic" and uses Fallacy Detective. Once you complete The Fallacy Detective, you can move on to The Thinking Toolbox. Both could be covered in one year or stretched out over two years. My plan for my 7th grader is to move him through both books in one year. After he completes our "baby logic," we will move onto Traditional Logic. If it is not taught at our co-op, then we'll use the DVDs.
  20. I am trying to gather information regarding your favorite math curriculum for 7th grade. All suggestions welcomed.
  21. I purchased the To Pledge Allegiance series by Gary DeMar a while back and am looking forward to using it with ds. We have been very pleased with the DeMar books.
  22. We love this book! I bought it for myself but my dd swiped it as soon as it hit the door.
  23. Our dd is working through the Barron's SAT Prep book and we've scheduled an hour a day for study - 30 minutes verbal and 30 minutes math. She regularly takes the practice tests and in our writing program, she will be writing one timed essay a week (along with the rest of her writing). I do agree that the best prep is a solid education but the prep books have decreased her anxiety.
