  1. Thank you so much!!! These codes are getting harder to find.
  2. This post (http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showpost.php?p=924614&postcount=18) lists a link to some free ebooks from LearningExpress. I believe there were a few basic math review books there.
  3. I got a few answers to a similar question awhile back: http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83286&highlight=biology+dvd A couple of people gave their opinion of the teacher. I believe the video portion runs about 30-45 minutes. Reading and other assignments would then take additional time. HTH
  4. I completely agree! I think Abeka just wants you to go to their materials display and meet with their representatives. I like to do all my curriculum shopping online. If I can't see the table of contents and a sample chapter online, I'm not likely to buy.
  5. If you go to abeka.com and do a search for "scope", it will bring up Scope and Sequence 2009 pdf that you can download. It lists all subjects for all grades. I believe what are listed under each subject are the chapter headings of the textbooks. Not all subjects are that way. Literature for example just mentions a few of the authors and works, etc. But the biology lists what is covered in the book. That's the only thing I have found that will give me an idea of what is included in the textbooks. HTH
  6. I am planning to use Discovering French Nouveau by McDougal Littell. I bought the student text DVD-rom ebay and the teacher texts on Amazon. It was very inexpensive. The DVD-rom has the entire student textbook, audio features and videos. I believe this program has three levels, not four. We haven't actually used it yet, so I can't give you a BTDT perspective. But it looks like it will work for us, and I like the features of the DVD-rom.
  7. I noticed it says you have to have an instructor access code and "Access to Pearson's Instructor Resource Center is permitted only to instructors currently teaching at educational institutions." So it doesn't seem that it would be available to homeschoolers.
  8. Do you have to have proof that you homeschool to order the answer key. I've noticed some companies require a teacher's certificate number or some kind of proof from the state that you homeschool. I don't have anything like that. I was just wondering why you have to call to order the answer key. (Btw, is there some way I can have just a portion of a post quoted? In the post I am quoting above, could I just quote the last sentence of the first paragraph since that is what I am referring to? I can't seem to figure out how to do that. It reprints the whole post.)
  9. Thanks so much to everyone for your input. Michelle - your course descriptions were really helpful! Pamela - I agree that I definitely want to make sure that I have a full year's coursework planned for each course if I'm going to count each as a credit. I really need to look at adding to the English course. Thanks for the advice! Veronica - I looked at the Kolbe website. Their sample course plans really helped me see how to do each separately. I'd like to hear your thoughts on their English courses. Do you like the texts they use? Well, back to planning! Thanks again!
  10. My oldest will be starting high school in the fall, so all of this transcript/credit stuff is new to me. When I looked online at some high school course catalogs, it seemed that everyone includes literature and composition together as one course. My son will be studying World Literature, which I feel is a complete course in itself. However, he will also be using Warriner's and IEW for English Composition. So if I separate them on the transcript, would I put World Literature (1 credit) and English Composition 1 (1 credit) or should the comp class only count for half a credit?
  11. Thanks for sharing your experience. I have never ordered from the AOP website before, but I was just thinking about buying a couple of items on their sale. Think I'll just stick with CBD. I've always had excellent service from CBD. I just wish they would come out with a new code for free shipping or 10% off. I used their most recent code a couple of weeks ago not knowing you could only use it one time. If anyone knows of another code (other than 289105CB), I would love to have it.
  12. Sorry this is not from a BTDT perspective, but I'm planning to use Art Across the Ages in conjunction with Art in Focus textbook next year. I haven't planned this course out yet (right now I'm working on World Lit). Once I've watched a few of the DVDs I'll have a better opinion of whether or not I've made a good choice. I have seen a couple of the DVDs from the History of European Art, which I checked out from the library, and I personally really enjoyed the lectures. I am hoping to use that course in a couple of years. When I was choosing next year's curriculum, I did find a couple of threads mentioning both of these courses on this website. So you might try a search if you haven't already. Sorry this probably wasn't much help, but maybe someone who has already finished these courses will weigh in.
  13. The Sheppard Software link you provided worked fine for me. Maybe it was just down temporarily. I think I'll have my kids work through the lists. Seems quick and easy. Thanks. (Easy in the sense of no preparation on my part.)
