  1. VP history has this book scheduled for 4th grade. That seems absurd to me but I though I would see if anyone has successfully used this with a child that age. If not, do you have a suggestion for an easy version or should I just skip it?
  2. I'm planning out my book list for next year and wondering if you have any "can't miss" books. I'll be teaching a 3rd and 4th grader. The books lists for the parent taught, self-paced, and online classes are different so I was hoping to get some help here.
  3. How do you take your child to the next level in reading or do I even need to worry about this right now? My second grader can read, I guess on level. She is currently reading, The Littles, and I have to help her with about 4 words per page. She is not reading very smoothly though and I feel like she is making very slow progress. Is there anything I can do to encourage fluency or take it to the next level or is she doing OK? I'm just looking at the VP reading suggestions for second grade and do not think she could read those yet so I'm a little concerned that she is behind?? Thanks so much.
  4. ....should I pick up where I leave off next year or go ahead and start R&S 4? We are not going to finish because I started it mid year. Thanks!
  5. For CLE Math, do I need to buy the Teacher's Guide or the Answer Key? This would be for 4th grade. Thanks so much!
  6. Is the manual The Writing Road to Reading? Which edition is the best to buy? Do you buy the phonogram cards from the Spalding website? Thanks-I have one child that can't spell either. .
  7. Also sorry to hijack but if I buy Easy Grammar, do I need both the Teacher's Guide and the Student Book? Can I just buy the Teacher's Guide and then take the student pages out of it or is that a pain? I will need the guide for later years but was thinking if I just buy the TG this year that next year I can just buy the Student book. Still also trying to decide between R&S and Easy Grammar....
  8. Thank you all so much. I agree that I do need to stop looking and be thankful I have things we like using. I'll be thinking about Virginia when I get tempted again, which will probably be tomorrow. :)
  9. I have plenty of great curricula that is working and that my kids like! The problem is that I always want to switch and try something new. How do I stop this!!!!! :)
  10. Thanks for this information! It's very helpful. Do you require a narration for each card and/or do your children fill out the worksheets and take the tests? I guess the main question I have with CO is whether or not I'd know how much to require of my kids. Thanks again for the help! Also, I just checked out your curricula and noticed your older kids don't do Omnibus. Would you mind telling me if you looked at it closely and didn't like it?
  11. This is for 4th, 3rd, and 1st grades. I really love the idea and look of biblioplan and like that I could use it until 12th grade. I just don't know how easy it will be to actually do on a weekly basis. I also love the look of the Omnibus so that draws me to VP but I just don't know.
  12. I am currently using Rod and Staff for both grammar and composition. We are bored to death. Can you recommend something else for next year or should I just stick with it? I don't mind splitting the subjects up but I do need hand holding in both subjects. I also need something that is open and go because I have 6 kids and don't have a lot of prep time. I don't care what method or approach it is. This will be for 3rd and 4th grades. Thanks so much.
  13. Has anyone put worksheets together for MOH 2? I know the company sells notebooking pages but I was just wondering if anyone has found any online anywhere? Any other resources to know about? Thanks so much-
  14. I need to simplify some areas of our homeschooling next year. Is there a list of curriculum providers that produce Christmas textbooks?? I did a search but couldn't come up with anything. I know that textbooks aren't the most popular means of educating but it's still what I'm looking for, for now. :) I know about Abeka, Christian Liberty Press, and Christian Light Education. I was just wondering if I'm missing any other good ones. Also, are there any specific one that you love for certain subjects? Thanks for the help!
  15. Ok - thanks for the advice. They are doing well with it and not complaining about math. I guess I just got nervous for a second. :) Thanks for helping out! We'll stick with it!
  16. I have 3 children using MUS. My 3rd grader is in Gamma, 2nd-Beta, K-alpha. My 3rd and 2nd grader are about 3/4ths of the way through the books so I'll need to order something soon. MUS is fine, the problem is that they don't really want to watch the videos (I know it's meant for parent's to watch and then teach to kids) and they NEVER use the blocks. I'm just wondering if I'm wasting my time and money with this program when they aren't even using the blocks!! The problem is that I know the scope and sequence is so off from other programs, I don't know if I should just stick with it until Pre-Algebra. Any suggestions?? The only other program I've really used is Singapore and I did NOT like it. Thanks so much!
  17. Does IEW teach different types of writing or is it mainly how to summarize. I'm looking specifically at the SWI-A. If it does not, is there another writing program that does teach a "fuller" spectrum of the types of writing? Thanks so much!
  18. I'd call or email them too. I was missing a card in one of my stacks and didn't notice it until months later. They corrected it and sent me a new one. I'm sure they'd do the same with the disc.
