  1. Where am I? Someone said there would be cupcakes.
  2. I definitely don't want to get this thread shut down, but I did want to add a little insight to my response. I put "I think no one should believe it, and it bothers me that people do." But, in the same vein, I don't argue it with people face-to-face if they don't bring it up or attempt to convince me of it. So, if I learned a new friend of mine believed it, it wouldn't be my response to say, "Gosh, I think no one should believe it, and it bothers me that you do." I would just let it slide, unless that person tried to convince me of it or implement it in schools, etc. If it's up for discussion, I'm all in--if I feel like it. I feel this way about a lot of things. I disagree with lots of people about lots of things, and they feel the same about my ideas, I'm sure. We may even be annoyed about their ideas, but I don't have to ride that horse all the time, if you know what I mean. I'm sure there are lots of things that people are "annoyed" that other people believe--and we see those hot-button issues on this board over and over again. :) So, I just don't want to people to have the impression that I would somehow be mean or aggressive to them if they believed YEC and we were just going about our normal lives. If it came up for discussion however, I would use everything in my ability to make my position, and the science, understood because I very much _would_ like to see the idea of YEC disappear through _logic and science_ not coercion or fear or societal pressure. In fact, I'd rather see YEC around than it be driven underground or out of play entirely because of fear or oppression. That never does any good. That's all I mean to say.
  3. Lots and lots of people do this, and they seem to get quite different answers. Scientists from various fields from various regions all over the world, and from various religious backgrounds, who search the _science_ for the answers agree to a very high degree.
  4. Hahah! I would consider that a selling point. A good friend of mine who is a Reformed Christian pastor's wife (who knows I'm an atheist) FB friended me, and I happened to be the 666 friend on her list. We both had a terrific laugh. Still a proud moment for me. :)
  5. (I don't want to hijack--but I haven't seen Mrs. Mungo in a loooong time. Is it just me?)
  6. I have not the faintest care about a street name. I just want a house is a decent area that I can afford. I'd live at 13A1/2 Dismay Drive if it met the previous criteria. :)
  7. Heh. My husband is also a scientist. He used to go out in the field all summer and do data collection...and tangential tick collection on his person. Each night he and his team would pluck the ticks off their bodies. I didn't know he was actually collecting them to show the kids at the end of the season until I opened a sour cream container on his dresser one day (at the end of the season). There they were, perhaps 80 ticks floating in an ocean of rubbing alcohol. If I'd have dropped it, I tell you, he'd have been cleaning it up!
  8. Are you in my basement? Get out! Get out now, Binip!
  9. I think she's probably related somehow to the 3 men who were exiled. That was just a throwaway bit of information, and that pings my story-pinger. I wonder if she's taking stuff to them. Fun speculation!
  10. I didn't notice Gabriel in this ep. Did he die and I don't remember (I hope!) :D
  11. I'm sorry I don't have any ideas, but I hope you'll get some good suggestions. It sounds very scary, and I hope you'll have peace and your dd will have a good recovery. :grouphug:
  12. My dd wants to try some sites to earn a little extra money. I've been searching around and most of these seem worthless and to be time-sucks. She is starting babysitting, and I'm trying to convince her that that is the best way to go. However, I promised that I would contact y'all and see if any of your have any experience or info. about possibilities in this area. Thanks!
  13. My gut reaction is to say, "an alcoholic beverage," but I honestly have no idea why.
  14. I couldn't agree more fervently.
  15. Oh, dear. You just made me laugh--but just because you reminded me of something of a dirty word game I play in my own head sometimes. Still. That's a beautiful use of a horrible saidism+adverb. Pristine!
  16. Oooh, you poor thing! I'm so glad they've stopped! Just imagining it is enough to send me to my knees. I don't do noise well.
  17. What we know for certain at this point is that it's an excellent example of Poe's Law in action. :) This reads very Evangelical to me, but post-Evangelical. Too absurd. I have no proof, but I'd be willing to wager on it being a joke.
  18. I want to see the black and blue so badly! :( I mean, I can see it in the Amazon picture, but not in the BuzzFeed picture. If this is the low-point of my day, it will be wonderful!
  19. I really think that this is a joke. (Pllllease, let it be a joke.)
  20. Yikes! My first thought was that it was a "Snermione" fanfic. :) (I have a friend who ships Snape and Hermione. Ok, she's not a close friend, really.) Snermione. Heavens.
  21. Yeah, I thought this was some kind of joke too. I just forgot about it. I see white and gold. If I just let my eyes fuzz, I can see how the white part might be a sort of pale periwinkle. Nothing else makes any sense. I don't understand the black at all. I'm so confused by this. I can't wait for the explanation that someone will come up with in the next several days for us. :)
  22. This is NOT OK, Tanaqui. That "Awful Library Books" site has ruined me for the rest of the day. Also, this. Dramatic reading of Latawnya the Naughty Horse. WHYYY? (Sorry for the tangent)
  23. Has anyone started this book yet? I'm really enjoying it so far--I'm only about 3 chapters in though. Here's a great list of study questions I thought we might use as inspiration. I don't think we necessarily need to go chapter by chapter or anything, but as we read, we can give our thoughts on these questions as we have them. https://www.michigan.gov/documents/mde/lm__2010_MCFB_TheBeakoftheFinchDiscussionQuestions_306893_7.pdf Please let me know if you have the book or are interested in participating, and we can get started. I.
