  1. Hello to everyone. Is there anyone using Khan Academy as a high school curriculum? If so, do they have answer key/quizzes for the courses? Thank you,
  2. Hello MorningGlory and thank you. I was thinking about doing that but it would be so much easier if I had the teacher's guide with the answers to the problems. On Amazon, someone is selling it for nearly $400. So if by chance you know of a way to find the answers, please let me know. I have an older version of Hewitt from 1997; the 3rd edition. Rose
  3. Hello everyone. My child may start using Hewitt's Physics again. If anyone uses this, please answer the following question for me: Do you have your kids to complete the entire sections at the end of each chapter? The plug and chugs, think and explain and think and solve problems? I am seriously thinking to have my child just complete the review questions. I mean, in some chapters, the review questions themselves can be up to 25 questions long; and then there's the plug and chugs, think and explain and think and solve. Please let me know. Thanks, Rose

  6. Hi Lanny and thanks. I've been on that site actually and it really is good. But in your opinion, does every essay have to be in MLA format? Rose
  7. Hello again and thank you so much for writing. We don't take yearly tests either. My older child did do the SAT and hopefully the younger one will too when it comes time for that, but as for the curriculum testing, I actually stopped with the tests last year ( last year is when I had purchased a boxed curriculum that came with all the tests, etc... ) but as of now, I don't test or quiz them. I sometimes just start thinking ahead of myself with so much talk about AP tests and such, that it makes me think too far ahead.
  8. Oh my goodness, thank you so much for posting this. This helps to make me a little less confused about things. :) Rose
  9. Hi there. Thanks for writing. So, in your opinion, what about when it would come time to take a state test, like an SAT test? I'm not talking about history for the test, I just mean in general, in regards to other curriculum. I, too, really don't want to give my kids tests. I just want to make sure that they are actually learning. And sometimes I get confused and start thinking that they will only learn if they are quizzed and tested. So, please let me know more about this. In all honesty, I do feel that kids will retain what they have learned without the tests.
  10. Hello everyone. I have many different types of textbook curriculums. My 8th grader was doing online curriculum with a free virtual online site. Then I had her to start trying the textbooks. First, she likes the online site, but to me, it didn't look as if it covered everything that you would normally find in a textbook. So I contacted the company and they said that their curriculum that they put on the site is a full years curriculum. Okay. But when I look inside, for example a name brand History textbook to compare it, the information on the virtual site is actually less than which is in the textbook. So, will she be learning enough? Especially when it comes time to take a test/quiz? Rose
  11. Hello everyone. If anyone knows of a good, free grammar and composition for an 8th grader, please let me know. Right now, we are working with free worksheets and a grammar site. Also, I have Spotlight on Literature, but my child doesn't like it at all. Thanking you in advance, Rose
  12. Hi again. Can I ask you, if you can post on here or send me a message of an example of how to do the transcripts by subject? Rose
  13. Hello to you. Did you have her to take any kind of state exams, like the SAT or AP, before applying for college? Rose
  14. Hello again everyone. Please help me if you can. My child was doing the Conceptual Physics but I put a hold on her doing anymore of it as of now because I am still trying to find the teachers edition. She really likes this book but I really want to know something. For grade 8, what is a good science curriculum to give? I looked at several physical sciences for 8th graders, and the thing is is that a lot of them have almost the same exact outlines as the Hewitt's Conceptual Physics, which is intended for high school. So if she were to do a regular 8th grade physical science curriculum, then it doesn't look like there would really be any point at all in doing the Conceptual Physics in 9th grade. Where are some free online sites for grade 8 physical science? Or should she do earth science? Rose
  15. Hi again and thanks for writing. Do you or did you use this particular book? I wrote to a company asking for the teachers edition for the answer keys. They told me they had the teacher's edition but it only had answers to the review questions; and not answers to the plug and chugs or the think and solve questions. Can you tell me if you know; are the review questions suppose to be done by the student? Or is it only the plug and chugs and the think and solve problems? Without the guide, I'm not completely sure what is suppose to be done. Rose
