  1. Scolding, intentionally misinterpreting, and chastising is a virtue on this forum. Approach with a thick skin. 🤪
  2. Kids got sent home. I don’t see the flagrant disregard of social distancing and stay-at-home directives so many of you are experiencing, with the exception of Lowes. We will never know what state actions had impact and which just served no purpose. I will not argue about that. But I buy the the drunk with power assessment.
  3. No. The mom down the street that lost her mind with worry several weeks ago forbade her kids from going outside. She lasted two weeks. The kids have all been down at my house playing with my kids for the last three days now. People in this area of the state are angry with our governor. We are the fifth least impacted state in terms of # cases per million, yet he has cancelled school for the remainder of the year, graduating the seniors, and has put us under stay at home orders until June 10. He just appears drunk with power at this point, given this region’s perspective.
  4. The kids have been getting snacks from the free lunches at the bus. I buy a couple of bags of chips at the store when I go get curbside pickup. If they want anything else, they need to make brownies or banana cake of something. I have a tendency to snack on leftovers.
  5. No. Too much violence and too confusing about questions of personhood. Also recreational premarital sex.
  6. Nothing wrong with messages of hope when hope is needed.
  7. The kids had something in early March that was crazy in its similarity to COVID19. So eery. But I don’t think it was, because neither DH nor myself caught it, and DH is immune suppressed and I have moderate/severe asthma. Both DH and I had headaches and fatigue during that time, which we took to mean our immune systems were successfully fighting whatever the kids had. That’s why I won’t put much stock in people’s claims that they had COVID19 last year.
  8. That’s because Cuomo wanted them ALL. 🙄
  9. We pretty much live hand to mouth already, thankfully no drop in income yet. Gas costs are down considerably. We’ve had no refunds on kid activities, so that’s not down. I basically just try to tip when I’m out. It’s what I can do. Oh and maybe this is lame, but I tell the kids to get the school lunches from the bus because the lunch system gives people a job to do. The kids don’t really like them, but I can use a decent percentage of what the kids reject to make other meals: milk, packaged apple slices, ham, and salad are a few things I sequestered and doctored for meals. It’s not going in the trash, mostly.
  10. Ah, yes, I have one of those kids. Two to three layers of parental controls are PITA.
  11. RootAnn, why would Khan not be used? I find it an extremely user-friendly stop-gap.
  12. Not within my tiny little district here, but in other districts within my state parents have been left high and dry. They are asking questions on social media on how to keep educating the children (within the parent’s ability). I detect no hostility, but I imagine the homeschool FB groups are going to put tighter restrictions on joining so it won’t be a nightmare to cull membership six months from now. There are some earnest but lost parents out there right now, and I think homeschoolers are pretty good at identifying those people by thier questions. As a group, we all seem happy to help those.
  13. Nice! I’m looking for Vera to finish out a row in front of my house. Got some from Pinetree and only 4 germinated. Weird, because I had success germinating Vera last year. I think I’d better stick with the same strain since it’s for completing a row. I’m trying to avoid ordering a single seed packet from another grower though.
  14. Yesterday I set up a group text of 18 out of 21 residences on our street. I think I’ll be able to get the other two eventually, the third is a recluse who would be eeked out by such a thing. I’m glad we can be in touch with one another now. I ordered mulch to be delivered this afternoon. Tomorrow will be nice, so I can get started on mulching, I might feel bad using a mask for that, but my lungs need the protection. Today, school and taking the recycling to the bins. I’ll ping my new network on the street to see if I can take anyone else’s. 😁
  15. In other news, I get a big truckload of mulch delivered this afternoon! Yay!
  16. I’m not sure that the rush to garden centers is a food security thing. Maybe for a few silly people it is. I think more likely that self isolation is giving people more time and/or interest in maintaining a garden or landscape. I fully believe the northern hemisphere is going to have some fabulous private gardens this year! ❤️
  17. I have two sisters that run their own businesses. They are being wiped out. I think the small business/self employed are the sacrificial lambs under the current political scenario, and the loss of these will have an impact, even if it’s not readily measurable.
  18. Lurking. This is inspiring. I have kiddos much like Caedmyn (eerily!) but I have never been one that’s good with structure for myself our my children, even though I know we’d all function much better with it.
  19. I’m sorta confused about my in-laws reaction to all of this. MIL is high risk, but they are both acting a little perturbed like asking 65+ year olds to self isolate is akin to elder abuse. MIL is self isolating mostly, but FIL goes between moving around at will and freaking out about bringing it home to MIL. He’s also upset at his favorite gluten free bakery going special order only. ETA: we are all self isolating/social distancing and nearly everything is closed, by the way, nobody’s singling out the over 65 crowd other than to be highly concerned for them.
  20. I’m not worried, yet. We have half a dozen boxes of tissues if push comes to shove.
