  1. This is a huge problem and Amazon absolutely enables it. It is impossible to prevent getting porn on a kindle and I’m talking about small children who are not even looking for it intentionally.  My husband is very tech and computer savvy and has our internet very controlled and locked down for work related things and he could not prevent it.   We just got rid of the kindle because of this issue.

We have watched Carl for years as homeschoolers and my kids also watched him when they attended both public and private schools. We are all disappointed that Carl isn't back! It's not CNN10 without him. 😞

My kids say it's all over TikTok as well and I've seen both teachers and students commenting all over Twitter about his absence. His wife is in a Facebook homeschool group that I'm also in and she said she can't comment. 😞  She did encourage anyone with opinions to contact CNN.

Do you know if  there is a preferred way to contact CNN?  My kids and I are super disappointed as well.
    thanks!

  3. I did the full IB diploma myself and it was worth it to me but I wouldn’t encourage anyone to do it unless they were highly driven and really wanted to do it.   It’s a lot of work and the group I did it with was pretty small and intimate and a pretty good and supportive group but I have seen it become very toxic as well.   I would not encourage a child who was resistance or seemed overwhelmed to continue.   If there are classes that he really likes, he can continue to take those and drop the full IB class load.

  4. My son loves Jules Verne and and has read all the Jules Verne he could get his hands on.   Around the World and 20,000 Leagues are great ones to start with. Journey to the Center of the Earth was fun but maybe a little harder to get into here.  Captain Nemo turns up in the Mysterious Island, so that is a good one after 20,000 Leagues.

I’ve been buying more and more white Corelle. Lead free, very slim, hard to break. They will shatter occasionally but it hasn’t happened to us yet.

The plain white are fine, but just so others are aware, corelle with designs ( pre 2005) are very high lead.   I’m just mentioning this because I know vintage corelle is popular because it lasts so long.

I think this is an article about the study referenced above.   I don’t think more institutionalization of children is the answer but that seems to be the go to solution for many politicians.

  7. God’s Dream by Archbishop Desmond Tutu is a sweet book. It is for younger, elementary or preschool so maybe that it too young but it is a book we have enjoyed.

Also, I have heard there is a stamp or sticker you can get me p put on your books that say they are little free library books so that used books stores won’t take the book from someone trying to sell used books.  Sadly, in my neighborhood, I have heard of people cleaning out the entire little free library, I guess to sell the books.  I just heard this again today so I thought I would bring it up.  Hope it doesn’t put a damper on things but I thought it would be better to know ahead of time.

  8. We have a Toto and it’s great.  You just need a outlet next to the toilet.  And it certainly has been helpful after surgery and would be helpful for any person with physical or mobility challenges.   We weren’t thinking about that when we got it but it sure was handy when someone had a surgery and would not have been able to wipe well.

  9. I have used Phonetic Zoo from IEW with two kids and it has worked well so far.  I have 4th grader and 7th grader doing it and it is independent.  They listen to the rule with examples, listen to the test, correct their test and write the words again.  They move on the the next test once they have gotten 100% two days in a row.   My younger one is naturally a decent speller and my older is naturally a terrible speller but I have seen improvement in both kids and I was about to give up on spelling with my oldest.  It only takes them 10-15 minutes a day to do it.

  10. In the past I had a small yard but I had lots of good sun in the front and plenty of rain the in spring and I had a very successful strawberry and blueberry patch.   I also had raspberries on the side of the house.  Berries are very expensive in the grocery store and not very tasty so I easily have made back what I have put into my garden many times.   I have a variety of both strawberries and blueberries so some are early bearing and some are later bearing which definitely supplies our fruit needs for the summer and I make jam and freeze extras.   I also planted fruit trees in our parking strip.  We moved so I am having to start over I am paying the intial costs again but again I am planting things that I know will grow well and are expensive to buy at the store.

  11. Aren’t grits and polenta basically the same thing?   If you like grits you should like polenta.   The only difference I can think of is that grits is usually made from white corn meal and polenta from yellow.  They are pretty much interchangeable at my house.  And I agree mixing it all together with plenty of water before you turn on the heat helps avoid clumps.

  12. I have a half gallon one and it is too small for us.  We eat fruits and veggies at every meal so we have lots of cores and peals and such.  I empty it every day which I would probably do every day in the summer but our house is pretty cool in the winter and it would be nice not to have to empty it so often.

    This is what I have.

  13. In general the dentist is going have a greater risk from you than you are from the dentist.  I would go because the health of your mouth and teeth great affects the rest of your body.  Does the office have an air filtration system?  I’ve also seen people use those personal air filters.  I have not investigated how helpful they are though.
