  1. I see the point in this. If HE had been physically abusing HER, would you still just expect her to grow up and be adult about the situation? I've not been in the situation, but I think there is a lot of emotional stuff there.
  2. I voted mid-west and with a "d". My differentiation between diluted and deluded comes, ever so slightly, in the first vowel. Even when I say diluted like "die-luted"... It's more of a d. I'm an Oklahoman, who I think, speak very similarly to Texans. The bigger differentiation being in urban vs. rural.
  3. How much walking time do you have to devote on "most" days? Short walks throughout the day? Short walks plus a mile? Short walks plus a mile in morning and evening? Short walks plus 5 miles? I ask, because labs/goldens/boxers need significant exercise, some dogs within the breed need more than others. We don't walk our boxer EVERY day, but we have a fenced yard that she will go out and race around and around, at top speed....several times a day. And with that, I still sometimes take her out to walk a mile before bed, because she's got too much energy. Other boxer owners tell us she is mellow. She is still under a year. ETA--The problem with counting on the open field to throw things and "Run" them for quick exercise, is that it only works when they are reliable. They won't run off, chase passing people or dogs, come when called, etc... So, while they are high energy puppies.... You will need to log miles, which is time.
  4. I count calories, not official WW....but my go-to breakfast is.... Real oatmeal. The 5 minute oats and the steel cut are similar, nutrition wise. I keep both on hand and use whatever the morning allows. I have good luck cooking a big batch of steel cut, refrigerating, and scooping out a serving each morning. They hold their texture well. Frozen blueberries (packs a punch of flavor for few calories). Throw these in the last few minutes of cooking or thaw a bit. These let me skip sugar or sugar substitute. Handful of almonds, lightly chopped. (I measured my handful several times, so I get a consistent serving. Dash of unsweetened almond milk. Lower calorie than regular. Flax seed
  5. The consensus on the other thread seems to be that the dog needs to go. Is it: 1. Because the dog bit. Period. 2. Because the dog is also agressive with the OP's kids. 3. Because it is a dog that can inflict big damage. 4. ??? Does any biting dog get the same answer? I'm asking because my dog bit the neighbor kid last weekend. Now, he is a Maltese and didn't break skin or leave a bruise. The neighbor kids stand up on their fence and talk over at him while he goes ballistic, but they aren't "mean." I have a message in to a trainer about training, but I'm freaking out a little about the "One Free Bite" rule. FTR... He doesn't get aggressive with my kids, but I knew that he doesn't like other kids. The groomers call him "sweet."
  6. I just discovered Ann Taylor Loft and their different fits of clothing. One of them actually fits my waist AND hips. The only thing left is to take them in to have the hem shortened. I just have to figure that cost into the price.
  7. What is so good about these books? I read LOTS of fluff. Romance, paranormal, etc.... These have been at the top of I-store list forever. I picked one up in the bookstore to look at and the writing seemed atrocious (since I'm used to romance novels, that is saying something.)
  8. That sucks.:grouphug: My Hypothyroid is well controlled, but I understand the weight loss frustrations. I've been plateaued for a bit and went back to counting calories yesterday. I was starving all day, until I ended up pigging out last night.:001_huh: But this calorie amount is at least enough that I'm not thinking of food all the time. I upped my calories today. If I can lose .25 pounds a week, I'll get there faster than pigging out every night will get me there.:tongue_smilie:
  9. I keep thinking of this situation. I met my dh when I was 18. He proposed 9 months later, on my 19th birthday. We married when I was 19 1/2. We finished college. We waited 7 years to have kids. We've been married over 16 years. At what point did "creepy" end?
  10. When you tried to add other things back in, were you still eating just as low calorie? I know the best way for me to keep calories low is to eat lots of veggies. Fruit can go either way. It depends if you are eating berries or bananas. When I include cheese, crackers, bread, etc.... The calories start adding up very quickly.
  11. http://www.lydiajane.com/2010/09/mr-and-mrs-murphy-forksville-pa.html The wedding was beautiful. The article said they were close to engagement, before the accident. I'm not sure at what point it would be OK and not "creepy" for people. At what point would people think it was wrong to leave him? Is it never wrong to walk away? After engagement, but before the wedding is ok to leave or true love would hold the intended commitment? After the wedding, but before kids? After kids, but under 30? I'm just thinking out loud. I think it's impossible for us to know what their relationship is really like. Their friends appear to support them.
  12. People use many euphemisms, not because we aren't adult enough for the words, but to keep trolls from doing a search on b@@bs and finding us. bOOks came from a funny thread and has turned into a board joke with pamphlets, encyclopedias, and bOOkshelves. If you see a thread about getting carpet trimmed for tEa-time..... Well, just be careful what you say.
  13. I need to try that store. I always thought it was for the high school set, but I've had this store recommended several times recently.
  14. Well, hips and rear aren't fashionable either. :). Add in my long torso and short legs and I know fashion designers didn't have me in mind. I'm commiserating, even though my aSSets are on the other end. I will say that it helped to google shopping tips for my body style. Learning what types of clothing look better on me has made me realize that much of the problem isn't in the fit of clothing, but in the style. I can't just pick any style of clothing and try sizes up and down to have it look awesome. I've had to give up certain styles, that I always liked. Once I embraced the limitations and followed the rules ruthlessly, I've been much happier with my shopping. Even bathing suit shopping went better by not even trying on suits that fell in the "NO, NEVER FOR MY BODY" category... Like halter tops. I always thought they were cute. Apparently, they exaggerate my triangle body shape where wider shoulder straps balance my top with my bottom.
  15. "If You See a Fairie Ring" http://www.amazon.com/If-You-See-Fairy-Ring/dp/0764160281 It is poetry, by such authors as Laura Ingalls Wilder. My whimsical fairy child loved it.
  16. Where do you live (generally?). What clothing do you walk in? Through the summer? I got burned, last Saturday, being at a soccer game from 11-12. I had more games that day, but grabbed a longer shirt and umbrella. The sleeveless shirt burns peg the time for me. :). It's not super painful, but quite red, scratchy and tender 2 full days later. It doesn't appear like it will blister. Here (Oklahoma)... The time you are talking about is not safe from now (back to probably mid-April) through about September without sunscreen or some version of long sleeves and a hat.
  17. I think your results are missing a correlation to "average" student. Or to an aptitude for science/math. I know there are physics professors/engineers/etc... on this board. If that makes up a good portion of the responders, your results would be skewed.
  18. I voted easy, but I do have an engineering degree. Science and math classes were something I enjoyed.
  19. Rising 4th grader--finish Singapore 3, keep a review of Shurley English going, keep practicing cursive (she picked a program from Queens that combines picture study with cursive), summer reading program at the library. Rising 1st grader--Singapore 1, phonics review, practice printing with same Queens series, summer reading program Both--SOTW 2 and ocean science. We have a trip to Sea World at the beginning of summer and Santa Barbara at the end of summer to sandwich the ocean study. :) And I bought math games, a math game book, and a math cooking book for both.
  20. We listen to the audio during the school year, in the car. This summer, we will do activities and library books....but not for every chapter.
  21. I would tell the dentist your limitations and see what he says. In my mind: 1. Pain 2. Non-painful, but will, with certainty, cause big issues. Cavities and such. 3. Not perfect, and might eventually cause problems. 4. Cosmetic. I don't negate the importance of this. I am much more confident after straightening my teeth. But it is lowest priority.
  22. I posted farther up where a judge ruled that gratuities, even when posted as mandatorily included, are discretionary and are NOT enforceable. This was a case directly involving a bar, but I'm not sure why a restaurant would be different...but it might. In the case, the bar called police on a patron for theft of services when they didn't pay the (automatically included) gratuity.
  23. Does girls de-pantsing other girls in class count? Unwanted $exual assault from guy to girl... None Public school.
  24. I found this reference to a court case that said that automatic gratuities, even when published, are NOT legally binding for bars and pubs. It stemmed from a similar incident in a bar. The judge ruled that gratuities are discretionary. They can be added by the bar, but the patron can have it removed. I don't know if that specifically transfers to restaraunts, but it seems like it easily could. http://m.theatlanticwire.com/national/2011/10/please-welcome-rise-automatic-gratuity/43706/
  25. I receive a fitness magazine that is associated with my gym. Since last month's preview, I was looking forward to an article in this month's magazine. Primal vs. Vegan They had proponents of both make an argument for their side and then health experts weighed the claims. The end result: Both can work, DEPENDING on the individual. Instead of following one strict diet, which isn't working, tweak it to make it fit you and don't be upset that you had to do so. I had a very hard time following no grains or very low carb or vegan. So, I've ended up eating more vegetables, eating less grains, eating lower carb and cutting out artificial sweeteners (which is what caused MY joint pain-discovered by trial and error.). And I feel good. I'm losing weight and very close to goal and my joint pain is gone. And I'm eating normal food, but tweaking my choices.
