  1. I just have the kids do a page or two a day. I don't really plan anything, and I don't always check the annotations. Sometimes I just guess or make it up. We use it as a supplement to Math Mammoth.
  2. I have never heard of any of this. Thank you for expanding my world.
  3. I don't know if this is what you're looking for but I saw this in a Rod and Staff art pad. Use a crayon to trace very darkly around the outlines and then use an eraser to drag the color inside. Very easy and looks very nice.
  4. For the immediate future, I would do this: a. RLTL- 1 b. R&S Math grade 2 first 40 lessons review of first grade math c. SOTW d. Interactive notebooks grade 2 Science You can also use the interactive notebooks for language arts. This is nowhere near a complete curriculum but it's someplace to start while you catch your breath and decide what you really do want to do. ETA: It should be relatively inexpensive, no more than $75.
  5. You might consider trying loom knitting. It is super easy with lots of great projects you can make - hats, scarves, and afghans. There are lots of great tutorials on YouTube.
  6. Not with spelling you see however I just spent the summer adapting rod and staff grade 1 reading and phonics workbooks to be used with the Spalding marking and phonograms instead. I am a big fan of tweaking just about any curriculum to make it fit what I need.
  7. I think you might consider the ACE curriculum. It is not one that I would generally use or recommend but with the specifications of what you were looking for this definitely something I would consider. I would also suggest the CLE program. I hope things work out for you and that you find what you need.
  8. I was told by two different school districts that at least in elementary school, if I wanted to transfer the kids back in they would either be put into an age-appropriate level or they would have to take a placement test depending the principal's preferences. Neither school district really cared what materials we used, and were not interested in seeing the completed work or a portfolio. We are in the Plano/Frisco school districts, and both were quite comfortable with the idea of children being pulled out for homeschooling for a few years and then being readmitted to public school. You might try putting him in a private school for one year and then transferring over to public school.
  9. My nephew will be visiting most weekends this year. His school uses A Beka math and I'm not looking to reinvent the wheel. I'm looking for a math enrichment program. Has anyone used either the process skills math or the visible thinking math workbooks? Or have recommendations for a different program?

  11. I've never even looked at Heart of Dakota because in my mind HOD stands for Heart of Darkness. It could be the best or the worst curriculum in the world but I'll never know because I can't even bring myself to look at the website.
  12. Primary phonics readers - They come in six levels of increasing difficulty. They also have workbooks and maybe some other things available but I've never used any of that. I think the books are excellent. They are available from rainbow resource.
  13. I would ask your son what he thinks. I might not give him the final decision but I would definitely listen to his opinion.
  14. How about Rays Arithmetic or Strayer – Upton?
  15. College of the Redwoods has a free textbook you can use online or print. Or you can buy it from Memoria Press.
  16. You might look at Step by Step Grammar at Rainbow Resource.
  17. Everything we use is all just do the next thing so I don't really have to have lesson plans. During the actual school year I write down each thing we do in a composition notebook. I put the date at the top of the page. 1. Prayer 2. Recitation 3. Pledge 4. Handwriting 5. Phonics 6. Reading 7. Math pgs This summer I made up a checklist for each child, some things were listed to be done Monday through Friday. Tuesday we have art, and on Thursday we have Music. On Friday we do a different math curriculum. I expect when the school year begins again and I have fewer kids I will just go back to the composition book.
  18. I had the same experience. I was so excited to get this download. I had heard so many great things about it and I had such high expectations and then it was completely unusable. Major disappointment. It definitely made me reconsider using any of their curriculum.
  19. I am so sorry to take so long to get back to you. Life gets in the way sometimes. Like when someone gives your child a new puppy without asking first. Thank you all for answering. I have printed this out for her so that she can get your advice personally. I'm not really certain which way she's going to go but I suspect she will do the Rod and Staff.
  20. Unfortunately she really doesn't have money for any other evaluations. She's having to borrow money to to do the homeschooling. The girl has come pretty far in a year. At the beginning of last summer she would have an absolute meltdown if you ask her to look at a book and try to read any words. She is now reading books on a first to early second grade level. She and I have been tutoring her all year with an O-G program. We talked about both Barton and Wilson and she cannot afford either one. She also tried to get into Shriners for an evaluation but they turned her down. The boy is actually more of a concern. She just feels like he can't go through life waiting for somebody else to tell them what to do and how to answer the question. She's been homeschooling them this summer and feels that she has made some progress however she doesn't feel like she can put together an adequate curriculum for one year and then reenroll them in public school. So I showed her the different boxed curriculums and she narrowed them down to these three. I will show her the book titles and recommend that she read them though.
