  1. Thank you! I am somewhat concerned about the writing component of LOE. I need to really look into it more. I have loved what I've seen so far though.
  2. Thank you! This is exactly what I was worried about. I haven't introduced CVC at all, and in all honesty, she's not doing that great with blending (which is why I was so hesitant to just jump into AAR1). I will definitely look into the First Start Reading. Thank you!
  3. Yes, she meets/passes every criterion listed on their checklist.
  4. My newly-turned 4 yr old is on track to finish AAR Pre-reading by the end of May. We started back in September, and she has flown through it. I had every intention of going slowly and taking 2 years to complete it, but that just didn't happen. I am trying to figure out what to do in the fall, for what should be her "preK" year, age wise. I have been looking into Logic of English and also have considered continuing with AAR-Level 1. I am concerned that she may not be ready for either of those? Or is that a false concern? I don't want to push her, and I haven't at all. She begs daily to do more "Ziggy School", as she calls it, and has mastered all the material in AAR-Pre. Thank you for any advice/input
  5. DD is turning 4 in March. We took a large fall break, and have just started our "schooling" up again this past week. This is what we are planning on for the near future. Finish AAR Pre-Reading (already 1/2 done) Transition to Logic of English Foundations A (Cursive) Begin RightStart Math Level A Continue with Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Other than that, we do crafts, outdoor play, and field trips, along with whatever else she might like to do :)
  6. I have a 3.5 year old that hasn't picked up on letter sounds yet. Any suggestions/ideas on how to teach them? We are an electronic-free family (for kids) so the Letter Factory DVDs and such are out. Thank you so much!
  7. I am not big on rote memorization, especially when it comes to religion. (I'm a devout Catholic). I want my kids to embrace the Faith and truly understand it, not just be able to spit back memorized responses- which you said you are doing already. Knowing that you are already involved and living out your Faith, I would drop the Baltimore Catechesis memorization. You don't want her to resent her Faith, and if it is becoming that frustrating I would just drop it. You can always come back to it later if you think it is necessary.
  8. Do you have any Spanish children's shows or movies that they could watch? Those really help a lot :)
  9. I am wanting to add some great, high-quality, picture books to our library. Which ones would you recommend or are your favorites?
  10. At what age would you recommend starting to read chapter books to kids? I have a 2.5 yr old, and baby #2 is due to arrive any day. I thought it would be a good way to spend time with her while nursing, but I'm not sure she'll comprehend the continuity of a chapter book at this age. Thoughts or suggestions? Thank you!
  11. Thank you! I am thinking about using it for a 3.5 yr old that already solidly knows all of her letters, and their sounds, but obviously isn't ready for "actual reading" yet. She keeps asking for more and more school, so I want to keep fostering her love for learning without pushing too hard :)
  12. Hello! I was just wondering if anyone has used All About Reading Pre-1/Pre-Reading and your thoughts on it. What age did you find it best for? Did you like it? Thanks so much!
  13. I just wanted to say "hi"! I am a mama to a 2.5 yr old and another one on the way. I've started very casually doing some tot-school with her. I'm looking forward to learning a lot from everyone on here!
