  1. Not to hijack this thread, but is MM7 even necessary for Jacobs? I have read what Maria says but I also just went through Jacobs with a kid and we found the beginning to be a solid repeat of all the prealgebra she learned. It was so slow. We could have just started at chapter 9. So now I'm thinking we may skip MM7 with my next kid and just add in a few worksheets for extra practice as needed with Jacobs.
  2. Jacobs does not cover a few concepts that are a part of grade 6 & 7 curriculum. You would need to review/teach unit rates, inequalities, ratios, geometry and others if your child will have to take any state testing in the next year. Otherwise, the first half of Jacobs seems to me to be a repeat of math mammoth 7 and other prealgebra programs. The substantial part of algebra with new concepts doesn't begin until chapter 9. I wish my daughter had started it in 7th and taken it slowly through 8th. My next child is going to start Jacobs sooner but incorporate plenty of review.
  3. My DD9 also uses BA online as a review. She is going back through their third grade math online even though she completed it all in the workbook form a year ago. She generally does not like Beast Academy. There was simply not enough practice for her to grasp the concept before the authors would twist it up in a challenging question. We use the fourth grade workbooks now as a supplement to Mammoth Math. Yet, she loves BA online! It seems to be all the same material, just presented in a more game-oriented way. She challenges herself to get a high score on each section and will repeat them until she does. This has really surprised me. We use it as reward (!!!!!) for completing her MM work. It has definitely been worth the money.
  4. My kindergarten was reading at the start of last fall and we still began with ETC, book 1. She's in book 4 now without skipping. I think the handwriting alone was worth it but I saw improvements in her spelling and reading from the rules taught in the books. We took it slowly and found no need to skip anything. Hope that helps!
  5. My 5 yr old loves Sum Swamp, even though I really thought we would just use it for some addition/subtraction reinforcement. She asks to play it every day! We also like Tsuro and Robot Turtles. Great for her age.
