  1. I am comfortable in a Baptist church, though specifically not Independent Fundamental Baptists. But Southern Baptist, cooperative Baptist, American Baptists, etc. then yes, I am comfortable I am not comfortable enough with their theology to join the church in a covenant style membership, so we don't. But we do attend a couple regularly. We are in a flux as well. I grew up non-denominational, leaning charismatic. My dh grew up First baptist, high church style. We settled on a Vineyard church, then it transitioned to Anglicanism. There were many things we loved (the worship, the weekly communion, the liturgy), but as the theology shifted, we realized that we were solidly evangelical. That was 2 years ago. We've bounced between a mega-church that is sort of Church of God lite, charismatic but not too much, and a mega-church that is sort of Southern Baptist but they refuse to say that they are. Neither are perfect. But they are both good enough, and we enjoy them. So we keep bouncing.
  2. A slob comes clean Mystie Winckler (can't think of the name) Sometimes Sally Clarkson
  3. We eat Claxton fruit cake. Though I do love Japanese fruit cake--that was the specialty of my Aunt Sister. I might make one this year.
  4. I have never met one I didn't like. :)
  5. Sports run $150-300/season per kid. I have 3 that like to play all 4 seasons, but we took fall off to save money. Only one is playing winter, at $250 and minimal equipment costs (it is rugby). But if all 3 play even just 3 seasons, that's about $1800/year. This is all rec league/church league, non academy, non travel, teams Choir is $200/semester for 2 kids. I allowed a 3rd to drop as he lost interest (he goes to school and has daily music instruction). The 5 year old is begging for ballet. We will probably give her that for Christmas. That is about $50/month. All told about $2500/year, and they are little (5-11).
  6. My mom hosts, so I'm not sure. The star of our show is the relish plate, though. Stuffed celery (with onion cream cheese), olives, cheese straws, pickled peaches, pickled beets, pickled okra, and sometimes other stuff. So good. I love those pickled peaches.
  7. This. I am on a fb page for cars for sale in GA, and I regularly see cars for less than $3K
  8. Mine took a crazy long time to get the order right in VC blends. He finally got it, and we have moved to VCC. Totally mixes up the order again. It's crazy and fascinating and frustrating, for sure
  9. 65 during the day, down to 60 in the night. I have it set to come on at 68 for one hour to get us up and moving in the morning. Even with that, my kids rarely wear long sleeves or socks in the house. But in the summer? 75. I don't care how much it costs or how much of a drain I am on the environment. I am a grown woman, and I don't want to be hot. (of course, our AC can barely keep up, and it rarely gets below 78 in here. But at least I know that it's trying!)
  10. I can't seem to make the perfect amount of salad dressing. THere is always a bit leftover after a meal, so into the fridge it goes.
  11. Mona Imogene (I know 2 babies named this!)
  12. My MIL's first name is Hildred. Ahe hates it. Her mother was Maoma (Mae-oma). My own grandmother was Faye. Gr-grandmother was Dora, and another was OraLee (which is a variation of Aurelie, and I think is very pretty).
  13. We do sturdy MaryJanes. I like Keds until they outgrow. My dd wears fold over cotton eyelet lace ones from Jeffries (yes, so specific....she has way better clothes than I do)
  14. Ours uses McGraw Hill. Last year, it came home unused (4th grade). This year, it is being used. But it's November, and he has learned absolutely nothing so far this year
  15. I gave up my career, but it was more of a mutual decision. His path had better earning potential, and we knew we wanted someone at home with the kids, at least part time. As newlyweds, I worked as he went through grad school. That was step 1 of the plan, though the plan wasn't well defined or anything.. We just knew that it was worth it to invest in his career and that it would pay off.
  16. I love in a large metro area, and I hit several, dependijng on where I am in town. They vary SO much. So much more than say, Kroger, in the same neighborhoods (though Kroger does vary, too). I like what I like at Aldi, though, so I will seek out the good ones
  17. I love this description of CC! I think we would fit well at one, but we don't have one near us
  18. We are non denominational. We left our beloved church 2 years ago after it went towards theology we didn't agree with. I miss the community, but I am glad to not be under the teaching any longer.
  19. I would love that schedule. Two of my kids would, too. And two of my kids would be just got messes because of it. So we try to balance the whole family
  20. You find what works for your family. I have two dyslexic sons. They will sit and listen for hours and hours. They have to be prodded to move. (As a treat, we will allow a movie day, but i have learned to let them know beforehand that 12 hours is my limit for what they can watch). But we are currently at 10 minutes of handwriting for my 7 year old, and every.single.minute of that is pure torture. When I was homeschooling my crazy active now 11 year old, we did not do as many read alouds. He learned to read early, and he preferred to read to himself by 6. He has only watched a handful of full length movies in his life, none of those kn our living room with all its distractions. His 2nd grade year was full of interactive notebooks and active learning (I miss it!).
  21. I have one friend that had one. Totally unsubstantiated, reported by a play therapist after they saw her for 6 months and decided that their child didn't need therapy anymore. The therapist wanted to keep seeing the child and reported a "hunch" to CPS. This is the only person, friend or acquaintance, that I know about. But....with so much shame attached to the accusations, I can imagine that I know a lot more that have never mentioned it.
  22. My dh used to be so good at it. When we started having a tighter budget, and I would suggest a price range, it was like he then couldn't pick put a present to save his life. His answer to not finding the perfect thing is to give nothing. I buy myself presents, but it's not the same. My dad is the best gift giver ever, ever. My dh is lucky that he picks up the slack so well
  23. I got mine last year on a black Friday deal at the Walmarts for only $5. Best bath mat I have ever owned. Go figure.
