  1. I'm 59 and went through it in my late forties/early 50s. The weirdest symptom I had was claustrophobia for a year or two. When I was on a trip, the elevator had to be empty or I wouldn't get in. I took the stairs if i could. It was so strange. And one day

    totally disappeared.

  2. Just a thought, but Kate might have something serious and w/ King Charlesl's cancer and Harry and his shenanigans, maybe the family doesn't want to look like they're falling apart.

  3. I've been a travel writer for over 15 years now and what you're talking about is a real problem. I don't want to horrify you so I won't give examples, but through the years I saw stupid accident after stupid accident.

Sometimes the incident is awful and beyond tragic. It seems like people are on vacation and they forget that they're still in the real world, just not at home.

I was introduced to 2 Facebook book groups (how I got this far without knowing that was a thing, I have no idea) so I have a lot of books to read right now! And I just started using Goodreads, so I’m excited to have a way to track and a TBR list there too.

I’ll join in when I can- I get busy with kids, work, and reading and forget about threads like these. But I like seeing what other people are reading.

I usually read lots of historical fiction but am branching out 🙂

This week on my pile that I’m most excited about (I usually read a book in a day or two, depending on if I bring work home that night or not or have an exercise class):

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

Remarkably Bright Creatures by   Shelby Van Pelt

    Carnegie’s Maid by Marie Benedict

The Seven Husband’s of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I’m listening to The Beekeeper of Allepo

Would you mind sharing your top favorite historical fiction books? I'm always looking for good ones!

  5. I'm brand new to your group. I swing wildly from "you only live once" to batten down the hatches!"

Dh is good with money and does the bills,. I just need to better manage my little pot of our money.

My goal this year is to only shop at thrift stores except for socks and other personal items.

And next Xmas I'm going to make "all thrift buys" for Xmas gift.

Also is there something I can click so that I'm alerted on email about new posts?

    Thank you!

So happy with my purchases.   We needed two chairs for our little room off of our master.    I wanted two pottery barn type flop in chairs and he wanted lazyboy recliners.    So we compromised and got lazyboy recliners.   🤪    I thought of getting one of each but then just gave in.

Anyway, the ones we wanted were around $1,500-$2,000 each but I went to town looking for deals and budgeted $800 for both chairs, in leather.   I ended up finding two chairs for a total of $350.   One is black leather flex steel brand that an elderly man was selling as he bought it and then is going into a home. It was $150.  The other is a la z boy very dark brown leather, new condition, smaller (for me) for $200.

They both look brand new, the leather is still very nice, and you can tell the pillowy part in the back hasn't been leaned against much.

    Win!

Now I have $450 to do something with!

Congratulations! So where did you find the chairs ultimately?

So, I did join, but will look at other people's advice as well. I've lost weight before, some of you knew me when I was going through bariatric surgery many years ago. I mainly just need a way to focus on eating the foods I'm supposed to eat, so my smaller stomach will function as a limiting tool. Slider foods (that slide right through or don't take up much space in the tummy) are the downfall of bariatric patients. It seems that WW current plan really is in line with that - I don't have to weigh and measure the foods I'm supposed to be eating anyway, only the ones I'm not supposed ot eat much of. So far, so good.

I'm so glad you joined! Does slippery food include ice cream (that's my downfall.)

I don't know how they treat their remote workers but I know many people who have worked for them in person and let's just say it is not a company I would recommend working for if you have any hope of a life outside of work.

After talking with dh, he said the same thing. Dh works in a hospital that is serviced by EPIC.

I haven't done weight watchers in many years. I'm considering joining now for a bit of a mental boost to help get back on track with my eating. I like that now the foods my bariatric program says I should be eating (chicken/turkey breast, eggs, etc) are now zero point foods. They have a $10 a month for 10 month plan right now, and I'm very tempted.

I've quit before because it was such a pain tracking foods, especially mixed meals, like say chili or stew,  where I had 4 different veggies plus meat plus canned tomatoes, etc etc. With free veggies and beans and such that seems a bit easier now? Or I guess I could actually use their recipes - i don't think I bothered to do that before.

Thoughts? I also like that they have a GLP-1 program as I'm considering getting on one of those - waiting to see what new insurance program that starts on January 1st will cover as well as how well I manage to follow/lose weight with just the regular program.

I'm always embarrassed to say this, but please check out my blog. I lost 55 lbs in my early 40s (with toddlers) and I've kept the weight off for 17 years now. I'm currently 59. Way past meno. www.theinspiredeater.com.

I use very specific steps and I share everything.

And it costs nothing. I hope you'll take a look. At it's base, I love WW, but finding the right food plan is just the beginning of our trip on the yellow brick road.

Nobody's taught maintenance and I think I figured it out.

Those ordered books come from somewhere, usually from other libraries within the same system.

They're still library books.  They're still out on loan for an extended period of time so they can sit wrapped.

The holiday season is about giving, joy, and sharing with others.  Taking an abundance from a common resource seems antithetical to the very holidays that are being celebrated.

I want to apologize. This got a little contentious, I'm sorry.

I basically live at the library so it hadn't occurred to me that someone would take a bunch of Xmas books and not return them for the other kids.

  11. I'm a huge bird lover, but I don't have a bird. Yet.

I once rescued a parakeet and I found her the most amazing home with another rescued parakeet, Sunny, who "came alive by 300%" according to Daffodil's new mom. I had seen Sunny's first reaction to seeing Daffodil. They were in separate cages and she rushed Daff like "oh, yes!"

That's when I realized that birds need at least one other bird. They aren't solitary animals. They're meant to be in a group. And it's cool that your bird and daughter have already bonded.  A new bird won't take that away. ♥♥♥

  12. My two are 20 now so I don't do this anymore but when they were little I did this every year.

I'd go to the library and pull a ton of kid-Xmas books off the shelf. I'd order them too. I specifically picked Xmas-books.

Then I wrapped each library book and put the pretty presents under the tree.

The boys were told that they could each pick one present every evening in December

That said, I was a big believer in the power that comes from reading aloud to kids, so we did more reading than just those two nightly books.

But the kids just loved opening presents (they knew advance that they were books).

Anyway, it's a ton of fun and free.

Happy Holidays. You guys are in the sweet spot -- soak up  every moment. (Do we have a green-with-envy emoticon? ♥♥♥

  13. Thanks Amanda! I'm sorry that I didn't see your post.

I've figured out how to make an ebook, but making the paperback has been very difficult.

This is my first. I'm having a hard time completing it b/c the $150 for the barcode is freaking me out. I don't want to make a mistake and then need to fix and be charged another $150.

Do you have any tips on making the paperback final?

    Thank you again!

    Wendy
