  1. I was 17 and a few months when I started 4 year university way back when. (Had skipped a grade so was always a year older - so a bit different as I started when all my friends started...). My friends were always more or less a year older - and it never seemed a big deal. I don't look back and have any regrets starting at 17... But again, I'd always been a year younger than everyone...
  2. Thank you. D-day on Friday and I still haven't uploaded any counselor docs, though I have them all ready - I was wondering if I needed to tinker more? Thankfully, seems you all say no. WHEW! I will chill... 😉
  3. honestly, does it really matter how often they meet? i said in the homeschool section simply "Please see Course Descriptions" (transcript also has online provider key) So they'll know very clearly which are outsourced, which are not... but I never really specified frequency of meetings. does it really matter? are these ok? Example - for WTMA Biology Live class I have this line about what 'type' of class it is, being live weekly: "...Live online class, homework, quizzes, chapter tests, a midterm and a final exam graded by instructor." Example - for DO Physics asynchronous class ". The class takes place in an asynchronous environment and includes weekly assignments, instructional videos, quizzes, tests, a midterm and a final exam graded by instructor." Example - for PAH AP Chem asynchronous class: "Asynchronous class includes weekly assignments, instructional videos, quizzes, tests, midterm and final exam graded by instructor."
  4. Thanks for weighing in! Much appreciated. P.S> Love your Shakespeare classes, Roy Speed... :-)
  5. we're in physics mechanics only this year too... so far, so good. good pricing, better than going through PAH.
  6. i agree.. i thought once he's done with choice #1 nov 1, then he can reconfigure the essays for his other choices... but the essays are so different. i understand each college wants to feel special, but they all know that students can't apply 1 and done ,as they'll likely not be accepted. % chances of admission are growing so low all across the board, you have to cast a wide net. the common app should make it easier. maybe have the CA make the 1 big essay + 2 supplementals that go everywhere.... then only the why xyz school essay could be separate. too much! what do they think these seniors are - full time application essay writers? it's too much! (it is such a grind - i had NO idea....)
  7. Wondering about whether to use a comma or colon for these quotes, within my counselor letter. Which is correct? Or are they both? Silly question, but I don't want to look dumb. LOL! I think it's a colon... So-and-so said of DS: “INSERT QUOTE HERE.” or So-and-so said of DS, “INSERT QUOTE HERE.” ================= Then my DS asked me to proof one of his supplements, and that's when I realized I wasn't sure. LOL! He said something that really struck me: “INSERT QUOTE HERE” or He said something that really struck me, “INSERT QUOTE HERE” ====================== So let me know for both - if they are different, the correct grammar. Thanks!
  8. My ds took AP Stats and AP Calc AB together junior year. Good for a math-savvy kid. Not hard at all. Loved the Edhesive AP Stats class too! As to what colleges are looking for, no idea - we're in the middle of college apps for kid #1 right now...
  9. ASked a million times, can't seem to find the right threads and certainly can't find the right answer. Are we using a 4.0 scale or 5.0 scale? Basically 4.0 is A unweighted ; 5.0 is A weighted (AP/Honors). His GPA accordingly is 4.84. Based on a 4.0 scale or 5.0 scale?
  10. Me too. Didn't work out quite like I'd planned either... but we're trucking along. Nothing like a deadline to spur you faster. Hopefully a lesson learned for my younger kids. I did tackle the course descriptions, transcript & school profile over the summer. Finished most of it and was pleased when I re-opened it how well my first drafts were. Ended up tinkering and totally re-designing, but most of the content effort remained the same. Counselor letter? Planned to, but didn't start until... um... late September. LOL. Now I think I'm on like draft #4 and it's really shaping up - very pleased with it. I think I'm done with it. DS could not get him to tackle anything over the summer, so now he's rushing to handle all the essays, etc. But we're plugging along. Think it'll all work out fine. Probably won't apply to as many as we'd intended, throwing our net wide, b/c seeing them in CommonApp - the amount of unrelated supplemental essays might about kill us!
  11. my dd is sick, still sleeping and couldn't go. fortunately she's only 10th, and took it last year already... we'll see if there's any alternative for the late testing date as a make-up, but something tells me there isn't.... ah well
  12. Found it - thank you! And thanks for the other posts - I think I'll just leave it as "Please see school profile" as all of the info asked for is there nice, neat, well-designed - so we'll leave it at that, so maybe they'll actually read it.
  13. same here. my dd is 10th grade, so it's for experience yet again (took it last year too). and the real prep comes ahead of 11th grade anyway...
  14. I've seen many people say they do this - does this look right? Is it OK if I don't specify the details in their boxes, as it seems so repetitive when I have a really nicely formatted & designed school profile and course descriptions. See here - does this look OK? (And PS - where do I upload the School Profile in CA - under 'Transcripts' along with transcript + course descriptions? For some reason, I thought there would be a place to upload the "School Profile" which is school-specific, as opposed to 'student-specific')
  15. Oh how exciting Shellydon! Congrats to your dd! And how wonderful to have a stress-free senior year!!!
  16. OK so I've got some updates. Both ds & I have made a wee bit of progress... YAY!!! Most of ds's are CA - he'll start there. Then we've got the school specific for state Us. And then his safety, safety is U of Alabama (full ride merit possibility) and that is its own unique app all its own... but probably worth it as it's a safety, safety. First deadline - Nov 1 (next Nov 30 - not even thinking of next yet) Common App Profile - done Common App Education - not done - DONE Common App Testing - not done - DONE Common App Activities - not done - WORKING ON IT Common App Courses/Grades - not done - ALMOST DONE (only 1 school requires courses spelled out 9-12. ugh) LOR - sent off 4 (2 are completed) Counselor Letter - in final draft mode School profile - almost done DONE Transcript - done DONE Course descriptions - done DONE Common App Essay - in revision Supplement Essay #1 - in revision Supplement Essay #2 (if applicable) - in revision Supplement Essay #3 (if applicable) - not started STARTED FAFSA - not started DONE DONE DONE! Thank you Lanny for spurring me on. 🙂 Now I think I have to look into the CSS Profile? Oh please no!
  17. i'm hoping by end of weekend i'll be able to edit mine with more 'dones' - 3 weeks and counting. 😲 😲 😲 😲 😲 😲
  18. We're in CA and they have their own special app... that hasn't even begun yet! (That ends Nov 30) This is just the standard Common App for the vast majority of ds's schools.... Can I reiterate JoJosmom? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo............. 😅
  19. Look at your local PS's course catalog. See what their offerings are. If they offer "Honors English 9" and you know that's what your hs'er would be in for 9th grade, call yours Honors in 9th grade. etc.
  20. Thank you for the heads-up, Lanny. I think I'll try to tackle that today.... just to reiterate what I've seen in your PSA. 1. First both student & parent go https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm to get our own FSA IDs? 2. And then student (and/or parent helping student) go to https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa to start the FAFSA? Tell me we're not too late, starting just 9 days later than opened?
  21. There is continued work maybe weekly/monthly with practice tests I think, ongoing from Jan-May. It's much more than a 1/2 credit class. Then there is pointed test prep/discussion somewhere near the end as well if I recall. Plus my ds watched all the AC/DC videos for pointed test prep in the week or 2 before the test.
