  1. For one thing, cat and dog food is very high in protein, which is very bad for chickens. It's probably okay to give them a little as a treat, perhaps when they are moulting and they could use the extra protein, but I wouldn't make it a daily thing. But then again, my chickens are pets, not food, and I couldn't afford the vet bills a poor chicken diet would cause.
  2. Well, I wouldn't have my pets living outside, so I can't really answer that question. But, is there any way to keep their food in a place not easily accessible to the chickens?
  3. Please don't let your chickens eat cat or dog food. It is made with chicken (most brands anyways), and that's just wrong. :ack2: I mean, you wouldn't feed your dog ground-up dog meat would you?
  4. Wedding anniversary gifts?? lol:lol: I thought that was supposed to be silver. Apparently that has changed:tongue_smilie:
  5. What a beautiful family you have! Looks like you have all shared a wonderful year together! Merry Christmas!
  6. "I'm leaning toward warning every **** one of them not to bring up this subject in the future ever again." This- Seriously, I would just let them know in no uncertain terms, thaat your children are your children, and you know what's best for them. They can raise their own kids however they wish, but they need to accept that you will make your own decisions regarding your childrens education. Also, they may just come around once they have seen that you haven't in fact, turned them into illiterate little side-show freaks by educating them yourself:D They may just be reacting to the unknown right now- people are scared of things they know nothing about.
  7. In the meantime, try sleeping without a pillow! It helped me immensely last summer when I was suffering from a pinched nerve in my neck. That, and sitting up as tall as I could, to relieve some of the pressure.
  8. We ran off to Vegas, and got married here: http://www.alittlewhitechapel.com/ :D
  9. Happy Birthday Jessie! Hope you have a wonderful day!
  10. Denise, I too have been dealing with awful sinus symptoms for nearly a year now. I went to the doctors a while back, they gave me an antibiotic prescription, and told me to come back if it didn't help and schedule a cat scan - which i didn't do- no insurance :( I have had sinus pressure, pressure and an ache in my right eye, esp. at night in bed. Then, two weeks ago, the ear, jaw, and tooth pain started (again on the right side.) I was MISERABLE! I was taking over the counter pain meds (something I NEVER do!) and was starting to get stomach pain from that. I started using the Neil Med bottle (more water-pressure than the neti-pot), and that helped a little. But, let me tell you did finally work... Garlic! I took one raw clove of garlic, morning and night. Cut up the garlic into several pieces, that are small enough to swallow. Be sure to have something in your stomach first, to prevent stomach upset. I started to feel relief after only two days. Keep taking it until you have been feeling better for a few days. :001_smile:
  11. I also disagree with the new procedures, but I could think of a lot of other things to protest, that would be a better use of my time. :glare:
  12. Yikes! I've been there, and it's scary, and no fun at all. I ended up going to the walk-in because my face swelled up like a balloon, and they started me right away on IV antibiotics. I had to come back again the next day to finish up the meds. I ended up having my dentist just pull the tooth (it was a molar and had been giving me trouble for years, root canals, infections) and I just didn't want to deal with it any more- I felt like that one tooth was ruining my health! Hope you can get some relief soon:ack2:
  13. That stinks!:glare: I also have told my mail carrier to please not leave packages on our front steps. We have two goats that roam freely in our yard, and they WILL eat anything and everything that they find laying around! I have come home several times to find them with packages in their mouths, getting ready to chow down lol. I am very surprised that anyone would actually walk down our driveway to put a package on our steps, as we also have three geese that get very excited when anyone comes to visit, and all the honking, flapping and running towards you can really freak people out! They usually honk the horn, and wait for me to come out, and if I'm not home, they leave a little card in my mailbox (which is at the end of the road). I hope you can get a replacement!
  14. I think you are twisting Bills words just a little here and completely missing the point he is trying to make. Sheesh.:glare:
  15. Aren't YOU stereotyping people based on their diet choices? Vegetarians are dirty and have B.O.? I have to say I am highly offended by these recent posts accusing vegans of being dirty.
  16. Well, that study is definitely interesting, however, he did get 1/3 of his calories from vegetables, protein shakes and vitamins. I am sure his results would have been very different had he not chosen to supplement his unhealthy diet with those things. I think too many folks reading about this study will think that you can eat nothing but little debbie snacks and do just fine. That's not true, and at any rate, while his cholesterol, weight and blood pressure were improved, it was just a fluke. I can only imagine the damage he did to his organs. You are what you eat- if it was healthy to eat that crap then why are so many Americans so sick? Also, being at a good weight is not always a measure of ones health.
  17. Well, how about a cup of mocha? Half hot chocolate, half coffee? A little caffeine sometimes helps my dd calm down.::sleep:
  18. " Plenty of people really do just fine on a lot of junk food, and it is quite well known that being sedentary is the real problem (something that is fostered by public education and our modern world in general)." Are you suggesting that people can eat a steady diet of fast food, and as long as they get regular exercise, they will be perfectly healthy? That's ridiculous, and wrong.:glare:
  19. I would bring the second litter box back. You should have a minimum of one litter box per cat. And definitely scoop them out several times a day. Some cats are pickier than others when it comes to littler boxes, and it's best to be on the safe side to prevent accidents.
  20. When I first took my two out of school and started homeschooling them- 6 years ago, I told my grandmother, and she started bawling and exclaimed "They're going to throw you in jail !". She has since calmed down a bit.
