Was this the SPCA? They are extremely picky. They wouldn't let me adopt a dog because they did a vet check and there were no evidence of shots because I do my own shots on the dogs (except for rabies). So I went to the local county run pound who will adopt to anyone that has the $100 adoption fee. I adopted my dog from there. 4 years later and he is a happy dog, sleeps on the bed every night and I still do my own shots.

Anyone worked for a health ins. company?
Anita in NC replied to Remudamom's topic in General Education Discussion Board
This seems to be a general trend. I have friends that buy their own personal policies and some are saying premiums are doubling. If you have a pre-exisiting condition you aren't even in the position to shop around. I know more and more people that just can't afford premiums any more. -
Would this bother you?
Anita in NC replied to BakersDozen's topic in General Education Discussion Board
No, it would not bother me in the least. -
I grew up in the UK and had a lot of health issues as a child. I got excellent care and two joint replacements for my RA. My folks are still in the UK. My mom had uterine cancer a couple of years ago and received great health care. My dad recently had more issues with his intestines. He was quickly scheduled for a colonoscopy and had surgery while he was there for the exam. There are always going to be horror stories about socialized medicine. I bet people can tell you a few about their health insurance providers too.

Counting Hours - Life Skills and Recess Questions
Anita in NC replied to jina's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Do you guys watch educational shows? You could count those. Luckily in NC we don't have to count hours. If we did I would have counted gardening, canning and a couple of educational shows that we watched this weekend. :D -
Are you sick of health care threads yet?
Anita in NC replied to Julie in Austin's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Well said. :iagree: -
Mine would not be able to handle 5 miles. I have figured out that their limit is about 3 miles on a moderate trail. That involves a lot of stopping and looking at stuff and climbing on rocks. After 3 miles my 5 year old is tired, my 9 year old is complaining his feet hurt because he is flat footed and even the 12 year old is dragging.

I would say just make two or three choices of veggies and let them choose. Limit the other food that they like (pasta, chicken, etc.) so that if they are still hungry they are more likely to eat more veggies. Keep trying the same thing several times. My DS didn't like mushrooms but now he loves them, he is even eating lettuce. Just keep giving it to them. Also, they won't let themselves starve. They will eat what is available when they get hungry enough. My two oldest boys LOVE veggies. In fact they love them so much they became vegetarians. Now we are starting a big garden to grow a lot of our own. :)

Woodstove Advice Needed
Anita in NC replied to Sahamamama's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We have a wood stove down in the basement which is the only source of heat down there and it works great. Keeps the entire 600 sq ft room toasty hot. Right now we need to fix the blower but it is years old and just needs a little maintenance. -
Seeds have sprouted- now what?!
Anita in NC replied to Psm73's topic in General Education Discussion Board
It depends on what you have planted in each pot. Things like cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes, squash, etc. the bigger kinds of plants - I would only have one plant per pot, just gently pull out any extras. If it is something like basil, chives, parsley, etc. the smaller types of plants - you can keep two or three plants per pot. Depending on the size of the pot. What I do is I plant one seed per cell and plant extra cells, that way if the extras come up I can give them away to friends. I have my seedlings under a grow light right now (or a sunny window would work). When they get bigger you will either need to transfer them to a bigger pots until they are ready to plant in the garden. This is my second year with a garden and it is a learning experience. Check some basic books out the library and they will help. Good job! -
Printing photos at home
Anita in NC replied to HomeOnTheRanch's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My recommendation is to upload as you take them to a site - I've used Wal-mart and when you have a certain number, have them printed and mailed to your home. If you do this as you go along and it isn't such a big job. I haven't had any luck with printers, I've tried 3 and they all produced poor quality pics. -
Sometimes the kids have all these plans and the parents have a completely different idea. Maybe the party is just for family. I would just tell your child that unless you receive a written invite from the parent they won't be going. Or talk the the friend and say, if you want XXXX to come to your party have your mom send an invite.

Honestly it sounds possible. What do you keep the thermostat at? Has it bee particularly cold recently? My electric bill runs around $150 - $200 per month for a 1300 sq ft home. Our thermostat is set at 64 in the winter and 78 in the summer.

Finally joined Netflix
Anita in NC replied to HollyDay's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We have the 3-at-a-time plan. I get one movie for me, one for the kids and one educational DVD. -
I have 3 boys in the same room. Ages 12, 9 and 5. It is a big room, actually a finished basement. They all have their beds down their and all their toys. They haven't complained about having to share, for them it is just normal. Our dining room table is also our school room and we just pack the books up at the end of the day. :)

Which dishwasher to get?
Anita in NC replied to Bokons's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I don't know. I'm a little disappointed with new appliances. My $800 Kenmore dish washer is broke already and it is not that old. My MagTag fridge broke when the compressor died and I had to live without a fridge for 5 weeks while I tried to get it fixed under warranty. I'd really like a new stove but after reading reviews I've given up on the idea because my 20 year old stove works just fine, it is just old and ugly. My husband and I now just wash all the dishes my hand after dinner, I wash, he dries and we chat. I use my dish washer as a drying rack during the day when I only have time to wash.
