  1. We joked that kid 1 should have been named Nectarine because I ate so many of them. With kids 2 and 3, I mainly had aversions. I drank a lot of Chick-fil-A lemonade with both of those, because it helped the nausea. With kid 2 at one point I was eating Chick-fil-A hash browns and they tasted like penicillin. To this day (over 11 years later) I cannot eat those because that taste memory is so strong!
  2. Putting something up is very familiar to me as a synonym for putting it away. I had no idea that was a regional thing! I've lived in the southeastern US my whole life.
  3. * Faithful preaching of God's Word * Care for community, both the church body and the community around the church * Within caring for the church body - one thing that drew us to this church (we've been there a year and a half) was that it has a special needs ministry. The fact that that exists is a demonstration of an attitude that this church will care for ALL its members. And while we haven't ended up using that particular ministry, we have experienced that care for our own kids. * They encourage people to serve, but they also try to help people find areas of service that will be a good fit for their gifts. Not just "we need warm bodies to do such and such." And they recognize that there are seasons where people can serve more and seasons where they can't. Oh - and they try to make sure people have times of rest. Like the children's Sunday School workers during the school year get the summer off and others are asked to fill in for the summer. And they do that for other areas of service, too (not necessarily school year/summer, but just making sure there are periods of rest). Those are a few off the top of my head.
  4. The Harry Potter books are my #1 comfort read.
  5. Ask and you shall receive: https://www.amazon.com/Nessie-Ladle-Turquoise-by-OTOTO/dp/B09QD2DFT6/ 😉
  6. Maybe you could do breakfast with her on Monday? Or offer to take her to the airport? Not sure if either of those would work with the other things you have going on. Otherwise, I would tell her she's welcome to come to what's planned but between work, kids' birthdays, and existing plans that include your parents, you're not seeing a way to squeeze anything else in. I'd make it clear that you're glad to hear from her, and maybe offer to schedule a phone or video call for after she's back home so you can spend some time catching up.
  7. She did, and she is...maybe 2/3 of the way through book 11, I think. She has asked me if she can stop W&R next school year, which is just as well since book 12 isn't out yet. 😉 I felt like 9 & 10 were along the same lines as the previous few - build some new skills, then work on applying them in your own writing on this topic, then on this one, etc. It has definitely made a strong writer of DD#2. With this particular kid, that may have happened regardless, but this program has given structure and direction to the development of her writing skills. My plan for her next year is writing assignments that I develop related to her study of literature and history, rather than a writing-specific program. There's a local co-op that has a speech and debate class that I might sign her up for in a couple of years as well (she won't be old enough this coming year). I hope that's helpful! 🙂 As an additional note for anyone else who might read this - I tried Fable/book 1 with my youngest a few months ago. It was a total bust. His learning needs are very different from those of his sisters, and W&R was clearly not a good fit for him. So while I'm a big fan of the program in general, my experience demonstrates that like any curriculum, it's not going to be perfect for everyone. 😄
  8. I'm sorry. I've been there too. Is this a kid your DD is around frequently?
  9. I think it loses something if you take away the formatting for the poem (which I agree is one of the most famous!). Sorry for larger text, but here's a c&p from poetryfoundation.org: This Is Just To Say BY WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS I have eaten the plums that were in the icebox and which you were probably saving for breakfast Forgive me they were delicious so sweet and so cold
  10. If you need any other recommendations for real estate agents in Tallahassee, send me a message. 🙂 That said - I don't know where you'd find homes at that price that are in decent condition. I can also tell you that Tallahassee's airport is small and often more expensive to fly in and out of. Not sure how important that will be. And when people talk about owning a home in Florida, it's generally not Tallahassee they're thinking of. 😄 People come here for reasons related to state government or Florida State University, pretty much. I'd make sure to find out what "owning a home in Florida" means to him.
  11. We booked our hotel room just a few days ago. DH has family in a state that will get totality, so that's where we're heading and we'll see some of those family members while we're there. Last time we traveled to see it - it was just a little bit past where my parents live, so we stayed with them and then drove over to a tiny town in South Carolina. It was such an awesome experience. We decided that day that we would make plans to see the 2024 one as well.
  12. I haven't seen them yet...I'm sure I will soon. @mommyoffive very real and annoying. They're just everywhere for...a couple of weeks, I think? Twice a year.
  13. ISTJ. My 14yo is very into Myers-Briggs (she would correct me here and say it's really about the cognitive functions) so it's a frequent topic at our house. Earlier today my 11yo (literally my opposite, ENFP) said to me, "Is ISTJ-ing fun?" I looked at her and said "I don't really...do...fun." Then I asked 14yo (who is INTP), what would you expect an ISTJ to say to that, and she said "pretty much exactly what you just said." 😄
  14. Ravenclaw! DH is Gryffindor, oldest is Ravenclaw, and middle and youngest are Hufflepuff.
  15. No. We stopped masking once fully vaccinated. Medical offices here don't require it any longer. And I'm glad of that, because I've developed claustrophobia and masking very much makes me feel trapped and like I can't breathe now. We've had covid once, about three months ago (over a year after we stopped masking).
  16. Parents of Gifted and Twice-Exceptional Kids (I just sent you an invite for it so you don't have to search, lol). It has a pretty nice group culture too.
  17. My age is the answer to life, the universe, and everything. 😁
  18. Our church (nondenominational, Reformed) always does contemporary music, which sometimes includes contemporary arrangements of hymns. We've been there for a year and change and I don't think I've heard them do "All Glory, Laud, and Honor," and they did not do it this Sunday either. They did include "Man of Sorrows, What a Name," which I would pick as a Good Friday song if I needed to assign it a day, but whatever. Our former church (Orthodox Presbyterian) did only hymns, and both of those were sung regularly throughout the year. But also, volunteers from our (current) church lead a service at the retirement home across the street, and DH happened to attend that service yesterday (for the first time - we're trying to figure out where in our church to serve and he's thinking that might be an option for him). They did "Hosanna, Loud Hosanna" and "Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates" over there.
  19. 11yo knows what they are. I asked almost-9yo and he rolled his eyes and said "April fool's." 🤣
  20. Team Wheelock's. You can request answer keys for both the textbook and workbook (I think the place to request is linked somewhere on http://www.wheelockslatin.com/ - sorry I don't have time right now to find it). And if you're interested in learning along with others, there are groups on the Latin Study list that work through Wheelock's. https://www.quasillum.com/study/latinstudy.php
  21. If he's not listing volunteer work separately, I would call the section Work Experience (rather than employment), and include that one as something like this: Boys and Girls Club ([date]-[date] as a volunteer; [date]-[date] as an employee): [what he did in this position] (But I have not dealt with resumes in a very long time, so take my thoughts with however many grains of salt are necessary!)
