  1. That deep sense of foreboding when everyone in the household is miserably sick, except you and the little baby...

  2. 13 lbs of candy gone in just over an hour!

Was that before or after the trick-or-treaters started showing up? ;)

  3. DD#2: "Mommy, I accidentally touched three cookies instead of just one. May I have them all?" Nice try, kid.

She's only 4...she has time to learn the advanced strategies. ;)

  4. I'm drowning in curriculum!!!

  5. Too much Harry Potter? A friend asked ds about his science for next year (chemistry) and he called it Potions!

  6. "Mom, how do you spell 'time?' I mean the 4th dimension, not the herb."

  7. I had been thinking how nice it was that the toddler was quietly occupying himself while I focused on school with his sisters. Then I saw this: http://goo.gl/7LpP2F

True, chiguirre! All those things are in the school room supply cabinet, so I'd've seen him get into those...it could easily have been something like shampoo, though!

I got it cleaned up relatively quickly, though I'm pretty sure some puzzle pieces ended up in the wrong boxes. ;)

  9. My DD is arguing with me that pi is not an unending nonrepeating number. Because, you know, her 6th grade brain and reasoning skills are obviously superior to centuries of mathematical geniuses and thought.

I so want to have a conversation with her to explore her ideas! Does she believe there's a biggest number out there as well?

I desperately need to know how she was arguing her position!

  11. It's a boy due some time in mid June. We're thinking Alexander James.

  12. DD#2: "Three plus five again? They asked me what three plus five equals YESTERDAY! Why do I have to keep answering the same questions?"

    1. purpleowl

@JodiSue: And that would be why--to make sure she still knows it! She doesn't have any problem with 3+5, but 3+4 tripped her up for a while. I think she thought that if she answered 6 enough times for that one, maybe it would become true, lol.

  13. To go to graduate school or not go to graduate school. That is the question.

I would say to go ahead and start taking 1-2 prereq courses and see how that goes. You can get through anything for one semester. If it goes well, great, keep going! If not, you'll have that credit and can come back to your plan in a few years if you want to try again.

  14. DD#1 looking at her school list for today: "You know, Mommy, I really like Language, Latin, and Logic." Somehow, the other items on her list for today became LMath, LPiano, and LReading. ;)

She did, but I don't think it'll work two days in a row, lol!

  15. What is worse than a leaking roof? A leaking roof that you just paid $8000 to repair. So it wouldn't leak.

  16. Just overheard my 3yo ask her sister, "Are animals real?" Homeschool fail.

And just for the record, yes, we point out birds and squirrels and lizards outside, and she has been to zoos. Maybe all those animals were just actors, though...

  17. Someone please cheer me on - I'm in the thick of finalizing writing up high school course descriptions, textbooks lists, and "letter from the educator about the curriculum you followed." My brain is fried!

  18. Just spent 20 minutes chasing a rabbit trail - Fibonacci rabbits, to be exact - with DD#1. I love homeschooling.

Actually, I was just showing DD the rabbit problem and helping her work through it, then going on to look at golden spirals. What's the book? I'd probably like it!

  19. Tomorrow is my first 'official' day of homeschooling dd! Feel like we have been doing it for a long time, but now it is for real:) I have butterflies?!
