  1. I'm sorry. That was my DS last year.
  2. Six students, two gold medals. 🙂
  3. Have any of you received results yet?
  4. Thanks for your reply. My kid has been effectively unschooling himself in math while I wasn't looking. 🙂 Just looking for a quick and painless way to formalise his knowledge before forging on ahead with a structured curriculum at a higher grade level.
  5. Thanks Gil. So I don't need to worry about doing fractions before decimals, or decimals before percents, or anything like that?
  6. I'm about to start using these to fill in a few gaps before DS starts an Australian year 7 text (roughly prealgebra and early algebra). What do I need to know about the sequence? Are there any topics which are prerequisites for others?

The rat said, "I will be your king, but if I don't I'll give ya'll a disease."

  9. I've also hung out with Rosie and her girl a few times in person, and maize and I exchanged music lessons (by video link) for our kids for a short while.
  10. My son works well for 30 - 60 minutes at a time, with nice long breaks in between lessons. If he finishes assigned work quickly, he plays his fiddle until the break time we've agreed upon.

  13. DS did gymnastics for about 18 months. Now he does violin at home with me, and we go busking together. We're turning this into a more social activity by inviting other homeschoolers to join us. DS is new to fiddling and needs lots of breaks, so it would be great to just rotate through a few kids at the one spot. He also attends roller derby training and will start competing next year. He skates with friends on weekends.
  14. Registration is open. I'm currently running a co-op style class of 6 kids who are preparing for this. They're really enjoying our review games, but I'm running out of questions for them. I don't suppose anyone here might be able to email me a bunch of past papers? I have 2017 and 2018 already. Please PM me if you can help. ?
  15. I'm taking an intensive on series and integral calc soon. I have a pretty patchy math background, so I'm after a text with worked examples and plenty of practise exercises plus solutions. Please and thank you!
  16. I'm also in Australia, with nothing to add to Stella's advice. All the best to you and your loved one.
  17. This has been true for me also. I'm a single parent, so childminding is very hard to come by. My favourite way to study is to get DS to bed and then stay up to have uninterrupted time to myself.
  18. Thanks for all of your replies. It's helpful to me to see how things work on such different scales.
  19. Yes, he was really wobbly, and his arms stuck out all funny-looking when he turned his toes out to go forwards. They also stuck out behind him when he turned his toes in to go backwards, and if he alternated between toes in and out to go in either direction, his arms kind of rotated like propellers at his sides. Now he has a lovely stride, does foot crossovers going around corners with appropriate arms swinging, and is the strongest skater at his junior roller derby training. He LOVES skating. Emphasis on how much he loves it. So much.
  20. We integrated DS' Moro reflex with rollerskating. ?
  21. Belling the cat Narration Something had to be done about the cat. There was no mouse that didn't know about the stories of mice being gobbled up by the cat. They were so terrified they never left their dens, day or night. So one day they had a meeting to get rid of this cat. But all the ideas were bad, until a young mouse said, "I have a simple plan and I know it'll work, it's to put a bell on it so when ever it comes we can run, for our lives." Everyone was surprised that they had not thought of it. A wise old mouse said, "It's a good plan but, who will bell the cat?" Rewrite Something had to done about the hawk. There was no meerkat who had not heard of the stories of them being ripped to shreds. So there was a meeting but all the ideas were bad until a young meerkat said, "I know let's make a new nest!".
